Ok, My name is Kirsten and I am 12. I am an Australian and this was one of the scariest moments of my life; and yes, I have witnessed many ghostly activity for my age.
This was set a village somewhere in Fiji. We were doing experience or something for the villagers – Like living like one of them. My mum is all for experience and loves to explore the world so we were in Fiji for the October holidays which separates 3rd term and 4th term.
When we got there everything seemed normal as usual in the jungle like area. A man said to us that the village was 5 and a half kilometers away and we had to walk on foot.
For the first few hours, he pointed out areas in the area that was special to them while he made his own path slicing the trees with his machete. (I was behind him so it was kind of freaking him waving a machete wildly with a 12 year old behind him).
When we got to the village, it was 8 o’clock or something like that. He walked us all into a big room (massive) that looked exactly like in them movies and said we were all sleeping there that night. He wished us a good night and went out of the room. No one seemed to care were we slept because we were all sleepy from the walk, so we all crashed.
What did I see that night? You’re about to find out. It was around 9pm because I had my phone with me, even though I didn’t have signal, and I saw a Swedish woman sitting on Paul. (Paul is a man from Minnesota) The woman looked like she was sitting on a chair although you couldn’t see the chair.
I freaked, I freaked out big time. Then the Swedish woman wash walking around looking for a place to sleep.
“Mum!” I said as I grabbed her arm, not bothering to wake up my older sister, younger sister or my younger brother. “Mum they’re gonna walk on us! Mum!”
Mum didn’t say anything, she just rolled over. The Swedish woman didn’t look at anyone specifically, all she did was walk all over, people. Lucky for me she didn’t walk on me, and the closest she got to me was at my feet. I really shouldn’t have stayed up all night and watched her same root to look for a place to sleep over and over again, because the next morning we were doing it all again.
At sunrise, she looked up and faded away. Then at that exact moment, the guide came in telling everyone to get up and get ready for another long day. Mum woke up and she said, “Why did you shake me last night?” So I explained everything to her. I couldn’t tell if she believed me or not. Though she said who could sleep with a ghost walking on them?
When we were walking again, I asked the guide about it and he said that sometime the elephants trample them during there sleep.
Fascination and mystery was all around and I explained to the group what happened accept the young children as young as 4. When I came home, I stayed up just thinking about ‘What I Saw That Night’.

you have had a very interesting life and your so young! that must have been really scary and to think you could get trampled by elephants too!! thanks for sharing!!
How scared you must have been! You write very well for your age. Did you ever find out if anyone else saw the same thing, or felt being walked on?
Was it her appearance that indicated she was Swedish? I’m wondering if it wasn’t someone who had been drawn to that place in life.
I’m glad you shared your story here. I know sometimes it can be difficult to talk about it when you have seen something like that…just know that you are not alone.
Hi Kirsten,
Very nicely written and interesting story. Thank you for sharing it with everyone. I wonder who that woman was? I’m thinking that she could of possibly been killed while in the jungle a long time ago, and that was her spirit. Also, you were very brave to be out there in that jungle. Especially, due to the fact that something could have spooked the elephants and then everyone would get trampled while sleeping! You’re much more brave than I am. I’m a big scaredy cat!! Also, I just LOVE Australia…very beautiful country. Where we live in the Florida Keys, we have iguanas running around freely…YIKES!! They can grow as long as five feet. In fact, not too long ago, my hubby was taking off the vent to the exhaust fan in the hall bathroom, and a foot long (teenager) iguana was sitting on the vent and fell through. Evidently, this little guy had gotten up into our attic via a nearby tree next to our house and found a cool spot to rest for a bit. Well I am totally afraid of lizards, iguanas, snakes, all that stuff! So, when I heard my hubby holler out, “close the door!!” and then I saw this foot long iguana running down the hallway, well you KNOW that I jumped on the couch and started screaming! The poor little thing was so terrified that he pooped and urinated everywhere (I found out later on that that is what iguanas do when then get scared. So, the next time (I sure hope that there won’t be a next time, though), I’ll try my best not to scream so loud or so much…LOL! There is a happy ending to this story, though, my hubby was able to catch the iguana by the tail, picked him up and put him outside in the woods where he (or she) belongs.
Kirsten, thank you for listening to my story. You’re a very good writer. I look forward to reading some more of your stories of the experiences that you have had. And, I’m sure that your mom believed you when you told her of what you saw that night. That would freak me out if I saw something like that!
bonnie thanks for the info on iguanas. i’ve known people who had them for pets!! there a strange and prehistoric animal. i used to feed “jimmy” grean beans!! lol
Hi Trolldoll,
“Jimmy” Green Beans is a cute name! There’s some lady that walks around our neighborhood every once in awhile who has a pet iguana. She puts a dress and a necklace on it and carries it around on her shoulders.
In fact, after my husband put the little guy outside into the woods, he said that he could have probably of sold it at the nearby pet store. I said that I’ll remember that, the next time one happens to fall through the ceiling vent again…YIKES! We have a house that is on high concrete blocks. These houses are pretty common in the Keys, due to flooding from hurricanes. Every once in awhile, a snake will curl up on our front porch. I gotta tell ya, it’s an experience going outside. I guess that’s to be expected in the tropics. I’m getting use to it, though. You take care and have a great Sunday.
I think the scary part of that story was the “trampling on by the elephants” part. The other wasn’t to bad. Interesting. the traveling part especially, though I think I’d rather do that in greece or paris, someplace with room service.
How did you know she was Swedish?
