My Encounters With Shadow Beings

Posted on February 1, 2012

My name is Amber and I’m almost 22 years old. I have always been a firm believer in ghosts, but was never a believer in evil entities. So the first time I saw a shadow being I thought it was just my imagination playing tricks on me. It was the Spring of 2007 when the first encounter occurred. I was working on a short story for my high school science fiction class when I suddenly felt like something in the room had changed, something wasn’t right. I couldn’t detect anything so I just shrugged it off as having an overactive imagination and went back to writing. Again the feeling came back and I was overwhelmed with dread, so I turned around, looking all around the room and that’s when I noticed it. Huddling in the corner, it was black, short, no distinct features really. I saw it reach it’s hands out and I screamed at it to go away and it sank into the other shadows in the room (shadows that were obviously made by the light shining on objects). That was my first encounter with the shadow beings.

The second encounter occurred about two years later. It was a bright sunny day in Summer, I was in bed with the fan on, trying to beat the heat. I decided to call up my friend Katie because I was bored and wanted someone to talk to. Our conversation didn’t last long because she had to get ready for work, so there I was again, with nothing to do. I was about to reach for a book when I noticed something near my window. I thought it might be a kid blocking the window, but this thing, it seemed to have materialized out of nowhere. It was like a giant blob, with no form. At the blink of an eye it was just gone! It had me running out of my room in fear and I definitely didn’t sleep in there for quite a while.

My last encounter occurred months before I moved into my own place. I was watching TV in the dark upstairs, a horror movie of course. I had to pause the movie because it suddenly became chilly in the living room and I went to grab a pillow and blanket, wanting to keep warm and also deciding that I would sleep upstairs that evening (some comfort thing that I’ve had since a kid after I’ve watched a horror movie, it makes me feel safe knowing that my parents are in the next room). Well when I came back upstairs I noticed that there was something huddled in the corner. I thought it was my sister Santana because she always made her way upstairs to the living room because she thought her room was too cold to sleep in. As I approached the corner, I realized it wasn’t here, but one of the shadow beings that I had seen before. As quickly as I noticed it wasn’t my sister, it had disappeared, as if evaporating.

These shadow beings are not just a figment of my imagination. They’re not my eyes playing tricks on me because of the way the room is lit. The shadows are pure black and look as if they could be solid. Sometimes they take the shape of a human, sometimes they are shapeless, or at least in my experience with them that’s what has happened. I don’t know why it targeted me to be the one able to see it, or where it even came from and if it’s still in that house (my whole family moved away and I’m in an apartment on the opposite side of town, with no shadow being encounters for at least 9 months). I do know that my mind was telling me that this thing was evil and something bad would happen if I stayed there with my family any longer, so I immediately began searching for an apartment after the last encounter, finally feeling free once moving into my own place. I was and still am glad to be free of whatever it was that was haunting me.

I’m glad that you haven’t had anymore experiences. I had a frighten experience in 1982. If have a chance look on this for my story called Evil Entity and Polytergrist. This was a frighten time in my life. This thing would take the shape and appearance of my husband then finally it made a appearance to him as me when neither of us did this. This entity most of the time would appear to me as shape of a shadow of a man and others as a dark shadow that appeared very very dark. Be careful and GOD BLESS.

I just read your story Bernice. It was fascinating. I had a similar experience with a ghost that would crawl into bed with me sometimes.

You have a short tolerance compared to me, ever since I was a kid I’ve seen shadow beings around me. the first ones I can remember was when I was just 7, I woke up in the middle of the night and saw three shadows of what seemed like children sitting around my feet. The funny thing was, the lights were off, and I can clearly see them, as if they were darker than black. Of course I was just a kid and I never had any thoughts about ghosts and stuff. Growing up as a teenager I had a shadow being that seem to like standing outside my bedroom door. Every time I leave my door open I can feel its presence and I’d often see it. It’s a bit annoying when I’m trying to do something because it’s very distracting, my quick solution is close the door and it doesn’t bother me. The weird thing is that whenever I sleep facing the door I’d feel its presence and I’ll not be able to sleep no matter how tired or drowsy I was. I lived with that shadow being in front of my bedroom for more than 10 years, far longer than you did with yours. Until now I keep seeing a huge dark figure walking back and forth outside our living room window, this shadow being is no stranger to my family because we all can see it. We just let go on its daily routine walking back and forth outside the window and we’d often see it walking around our kitchen and go up the stairs to the first floor of our house then back down again and then go to the kitchen again. It’s pretty weird, but we don’t seem to mind seeing it, we just don’t confront it, that’s all. Rather, it seems like its guarding our house since we often see it patrolling the entire house all the time. I’m aware that there are malicious ones, but I guess the one (or more than one) that I have at home is quite friendly. Also, if it starts messing some things up it might anger the guardians of the house. Aside from the shadow being, there are other entities living in my family house, one or two of them dwell in my bed, but that would be another story. Thanks for sharing your experience.

    Thanks for sharing you story.
I’m glad to hear that it’s not bothering you any more. I’ve also seen some shadow creatures (not to sure what to call them) Read my story here Strange black shadows.

Thank you guys, it feels good to know i’m not the only one who has had these experiences. Anyone else I’ve told has just brushed it off as me having a severely overactive imagination.

Wen I was 8 my dad told me this. He said
wen my mom was comin up the steps from
work, she saw a black figure sittin on my bed
and asked my dad if it was my lil sister but she
was right with my dad sleeping and wen she
went to walk to my dad, at the corner of
her eye she saw it go into my lil sis room and
fade into the wall I was so scared wen he
told me that. I also will be walking past my
bathroom seeing this black figure sitting on
the toilet by my eye I’ll look back at it’s not
there. And that scared the guts out of me!
    Now I’m 10.

Thank you for sharing your experience, Lady Lycan. You’re right. It helps knowing that similar things have happened to others. In the past year and a half, I’ve had three experiences with shadow beings. Before this, I’d never really had any paranormal experiences, but was never really a non-believer. The worst part of my experiences was being unable to move or speak for a brief time. Like you, I know it wasn’t just the lighting, or my imagination. Thankfully, it’s been awhile since my last experience, and I’m glad to read that you are also no longer being bothered.

Intriguing… Just the other night I had the “Hovering above the bed” experience and the “not being able to move for a while” syndrome. Others may be convinced its paranormal, but I’m pretty much convinced that it is a normal occurrence in the body during deep sleep. I have been lacking sleep lately you see and I often catch myself in the fragile state where my body is in a seemingly suspended animation state. A state where you are conscious, but you can’t feel yourself breathing and you can’t even move any part of your body and every part of your body feels numb and heavy. That is sleep paralysis, I do admit that I used to freak the hell out whenever I wake up in the middle of it, but after understanding a bit more about it I began to learn to get through it. Once you wake up in the middle of a deep sleep feeling all numb and out of breath as if something heavy or an invisible force is holding you down, try to stay calm and still for a few seconds, after that you will slowly regain control over your own body. One thing I must say though is that “few” seconds before you gain control of your body’s motor functions feels like forever and you may tend to feel scared, but it’s one of the things you must bare.
