The Haunted House In Greensburg Pennsylvania

Posted on October 9, 2008

Family of 3 taken out by 1, but refuse to leave.

It was only a few months after we moved in to our house that I realized something was not usual there. I started noticing things being not where I had left them. I found pictures that I had been looking at were being moved around or turned around backwards. I figured it was my kids at first or maybe my girlfriend, then I realized when these things happened we were not home or it was after everyone was in bed.

I questioned them about some of it and no one owned up to it. I then just let it go until a few weeks later that I discovered that the ceiling fan was on in the living room, but I did not hear the motor running, and that’s when I looked over at the switch and noticed it was not even in the on position. I began to really get nervous at this point, because a few pictures moved or turned around could have been done by anyone and maybe they just forgot about it, however a fan working was a totally different thing. I had thought maybe there could be a short in the wiring, but that could not explain the motor not working the fans movement.

If that was not enough to get me thinking. I was in the basement doing some laundry and I heard small foot steps above me on the living level of the house, and really discarded them until I realized that no one was home, but me, so I went up to check and when I got to that level the footsteps went to the next level which was the attic. I continued to follow the steps until they stopped at the small room at the back of the attic. I could hear a small child crying in the corner of that room, but I did not see anything.

As I was coming back down the attic stairs I was hit with an overwhelming since of coldness and I felt someone or some thing glide past me and as if they were in a hurry to get out. I was totally frozen and I could not move anything. I did not really feel scared at first until I tried to move and nothing gave, then I began to panic and of course that is the worst thing to do. After about 2 or 3 minutes I just told myself to relax and once I did my mobility came back and I just slowly walked out and down the stairs. I thought it was over at that time, but as soon as I turned to go back down the stairs I passed out and came back only after I heard my girlfriend coming up the stairs and she asked me what had happened and I instead of telling her the truth I said I just tripped.

I kept trying to rationalize it all over the next few days, but I couldn’t. A few nights later I heard what seemed to me to be a slicing sound coming from the kitchen. I got up and came down the stairs, but the noise had stopped, but a kitchen knife was laying on the floor, and I just placed it in the sink and I told myself that it must have been laid close to the side and fell off. It did not explain the slicing sound I had heard, but then again I had to rationalize it.

I told her about the knife in the floor and she told me she did not have a knife like that, all of her knives were small, because she was scared to use large knives and I told her that I did not even bring any silverware with me from Montana. It was now that I decided to tell her about what I had seen and heard for the past few months. She told me about some odd things that she had noticed also. I asked her why she never said anything and her reasons were the same as mine, who would believe it.

We both began to look into the house’s history and discovered that it was a place where a family of three had lived in the 1960′s. The father was a coal mine worker in Pittsburg before the mill had shut down. He could no longer find work and he slowly went crazy and he ended up killing his wife with a butcher knife in the kitchen and strangled his 6 year old daughter in the small room at the back of the attic which was where I had heard the footsteps end. He then hung himself with a cord over the side rail from the attic.

The things that had happened were only during the months of March through June, the rest of the year was quiet until October when my youngest son was making a video for a Halloween presentation. He and his friend were outside filming from the first floor level to the attic when he aimed the camera up to the attic he noticed a small face looking down at him and it was pale white. He came in and told me about it and asked me why his older brother was in the attic. I did not say anything, but his brother was not at home at the time. I knew who it was and could never bring myself to tell him until much later.

I never heard anything else until the following March and to my surprise my youngest son told me he had a new friend up stairs and she would open the door at night into his room from the attic. His room lead right into the attic from the hallway. He never was scared the time we lived there and I just assumed he had never heard anything, but I was wrong and it goes to show how kids are able to take time to understand where parents panic because we do not.

We did move from that house only to move next door since it was a duplex and the new family that moved in were there less than a week. I watched more than 4 families move in and out of that place in less than 2 months. We finally moved to Virginia in July of 2008, but I never will forget that house and the family of 3 that will never leave.

This is a true story that happened over a period of one and a half years. It happened in Greensburg Pa. and I now have a better understanding of what after life and death can hold for those taken before their time.

Wow interesting story. I’ve had many experiences myself, I know the feeling when you try to rationalize things. But in the end one has to admit that there is definately life after death. I really have trouble dealing with young spirits, becuase I dont think half of them know that they are dead, it breaks my heart so much. I think if we can, as living beings help them go to the light, we should do that.

God bless every body that reads my message.

Being from there, GBG, PA I can totally relate and believe your experiance. THere are so many places in that area full of “emotion”, it almost as a vortex for the parnaormal…….. I grew up thinking that every one had the same experiances there and no one spoke of it because it was soooo common, little did I know how wrong I was. No one spoke of it because of fear and misunderstanding. I would love to know if this is one of the houses I had experiances in while I lived there………..

Very cool anything that happens years before doesn’t alway stay there. This story was sad but i believe it to be true.
Not to get off the subject but i have a friend who was pushed into the path of a car. She ended up with multiple skull fractures. They just took her off lifesupport and now she’s in a vegitative state or coma. When will her spirit let go and be in peace. She didn’t deserve this she was just defending her husband from some punk who thought he was all that and that jerk just wouldn’t keep his mouth shut and kept harrassing her husband. Why is she still hanging on

  15. Abrakay says:

We think that spirits are true and one of us were told that there is a haunted dress factory in Greensburg,Indiana and a family of three left there little girl in the factory because they didn’t want her any more and she didn’t have any food or water so she died and haunts the factory plus there are many other spirits in the factory

  16. Abrakay says:

this is a true story above

  17. Alpha says:

    great story :)

I feel sorry for the family, because no one deserved to have undergone what they went. The girl is probably attached to that place for a long while because of the emotional attachment she has. Her presence will be their till she has the ability to depart.

I also acknowledge the consequences of death before one’s true time is up. In most hauntings with active spiritual entities, the spirits were once residents of that place whom died there. They are bound to that place because of the emotional energy they left upon their death.

    Take care

I hope their souls may one day be able to leave.I have been doing some research into hauntings in Greensburg, and in the surrounding area. The dress factory is one of the ones I found, along with the courthouse and attached parking garage. Seton Hill campus, as well as Livermore cemetery, if anyone is interested. 30. MorganGray says:

One of the spookiest places in (well, outside of) Greensburg, PA was the old Stewart (or Stuart) Mansion, up behind Seton Hill’s Campus.
The place was a gig Georgian-style mansion, with several associated out buildings, including a barn, “machine shops”, and a “servant’s house”. The family had suffered a number of misfortunes, until the last resident, Robert, I believe was his name, was committed.
It was a really creepy place, big old house, well back from the road, in a sad state of neglect.
There were local legends that during the 20s – 30s a daughter of the family (Rachael) was murdered by her mother and the body dumped in a coal mine. Oddly, there used to be a coal mine very close to the property, if not actually a part of the property. Supposedly Rachael’s ghost haunted the rest of the family into madness.
The main house burned down around Halloween back in the late 70s, probably due to kids back there drinking and partying.
I haven’t been back that way in over 30 years. Maybe it’s time for a field trip.
