The Demon at My Door

Posted on August 14, 2009

I come from a small West Texas town. In our community there is a strong belief in “curanderas” and “santeria”.

When I was about 7 years old we resided in a trailer with my mother, my heroin addicted father, and my younger brother. My father’s habit caused him to be violent towards my mother which seemed to go on every night. This particular night my father beat my mother pretty badly, but she refused to call the police or even call an ambulance. I heard her loud sobbing that night and attempted to comfort her but she sent me to my room, and my father threatened to punish me if I went back into her room.

I went to bed on the top bunk while my brother slept on the bottom bunk. There was a door that led to the bathroom, and my mother always left the light on so that we may see where we were going in case we needed to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. My mother always told me that dogs can hear the devil’s footsteps when he is near. Well, that night our neighbor’s dog, which was located right under my window howled most of the night which finally awoke me at around 3 am. The rest of the house was silent.

I turned over on my side and saw a figure standing at my door.  I leaned forward to see if maybe my mom or dad might be standing there. When I leaned forward the light from beneath the door shone on the figure of a thing that leaned forward to look at me at that same time. This figure had a grey face with strange grayish eyes. His hair was wave and stringy, and seemed to be blowing as if a breeze was passing through the room. He has a strange smile on his face and had sort of a skeletal body. I panicked and did what any 7 year old would do in that situation. I got under my covers and prayed to God.

At that moment I heard knocking, but tried to drift back to sleep. I woke in the morning convinced it was just a nightmare. About 5 years later my brother was discussing frightening things he had seen and he brought up this same figure on that same night. He said he saw this figure leave the doorway and go towards my mother’s room. We do not know if my father was home when this thing went into the room. Was this a demon? I do not know, but I do know that the horrific things we saw took place in that horrible trailer home may have been a catalyst for the strange things we saw appear or take place.

Now, 15 years later I moved into a home in South Texas after my ex mother in law left the residence. This woman believed in witchcraft and has been known to kill animals in her rituals. When I moved in I found various plants, and burnt herbs in different places around the house. The woman hated me, this was obvious, but I never expected to feel her wrath when I moved in. It was horrible. Every night I could not sleep. I paced the floor talking to myself. I heard humming, and people whispering. I felt so cold and empty the whole year I lived there. I even went as far as to go to a psychiatrist. He diagnosed me with Schizophrenia and put me on hard core medication.

I did not believe that I was Schizophrenic. I am depressed, but have never ever experienced these events. I began with nightmares of flying demons preying over me. Several times in my nightmares they would swoop me off my feet then drop me a few miles away. My daughter and my niece that both resided with us had the same types of nightmares.

Several times I would see someone or something crawling on all fours on the floor with what seemed to be very large shoulder blades. I didn’t know whether I was hallucinating or if it really was something in that house. My daughter claimed to see a young girl standing over her bed almost every night, and she eventually refused to go into her bedroom. My husband walked into the house one day to find a black shadow standing in the living room. He ran after the shadow and it disappeared behind the curtains.

The house itself was falling apart around us. The doors would not shut, and there was a crack that stretched across the ceiling from one end of the house to the other as if the house was going to break in half. I had the house blessed, and went to church and bible study. But unfortunately it would not stop. I saw these terrifying things everyday that I lived here and became so depressed and anxious. They finally hospitalized me due to Anxiety and Paranoia. It was horrible.

I finally learned from some lady that went up to me at a downtown function that someone was jealous of me and has put several curses on me in the hopes that I would fail, or worse, kill myself. Well, finally we moved. I felt a great weight lift, but my mother came to visit one day and mentioned she saw a young girl in my daughter’s room.  I thought we had left all that behind. I don’t know if these are all works of a demon. I quit going to work when all this took place and became very distant. My daughters really felt I was mentally ill. Though, they could not understand what happened to me.

A few months ago my husband asked if he could take my daughters to spend the night at his mother’s house.  I figured now that him and I were separated her anger may have subsided. That night my daughters called me several times telling me they could not sleep. Then my eldest claims she was trying to fall asleep and a loud bark rang in her ear. My niece claimed there was something growling under her bed. All three girls had nightmares that whole weekend. They refuse to go to the house ever again.

Demons have plagued me my whole life. These are only very significant events that took place. I do not know if in fact they were demons, but I feel in my heart that this was something caused my the anger this woman felt for me. Her home is falling apart and she is extremely angry with everyone. She continues to threaten her own children with curses, but claims she is very religious. Its frightening.

Oh, wow. I wish I had some words to comfort you. I cant even imagine the terror you are feeling. I will pray for you. There is so much evil in the world, and it is so discouraging when it touches our lives, stay strong, seek help from who ever you can. And have faith in God.

    Caretaker,
I just want to take a moment to thank you for being such a wonderful “blocker”! I am new to this wonderful site and appreciate you not taking the cruel, inappropriate comments! You allow for difference of opinion as long as it’s done in a mature way! Kudos to you! You are the Blog-master!!!!!!!!! lol!

  9. Woozle Wuzzle says:

“unbiased opinions are fine but insulting and abusive comments will not be approved.”

its ridiculous that you would make such a statement as my comments havent been abusive, on top of the fact that i have seen quite a few comments on numerous stories that involved name calling and childish insults, yet were approved. im sure you wont be able to explain that though just as im sure you will not approve this comment either

    • Caretaker says:

Woozle, Sure I can explain it. Its simple. I am the moderator for this site. One of my jobs is to approve, or reject, comments. If I think a comment is abusive and insulting or it includes foul language I will delete it. There is nothing personal in it. You say your comments “haven’t been abusive”, well I disagree or I would have approved them all. (And you know as well as I do what types of comments you have made that werent approved)

It is OK to say you don’t believe a story and it is OK to disagree. For example I see here that you have an issue with me. You expressed your thoughts without being insulting (well not too much so) so here it is approved.

I appreciate everyone who visits here and all those who post thoughtful comments, but in the end I am the CareTaker. Bottom line if you would like to have your comments appear on the site then do not be abusive or call others names or use profanity. If a persons only comment is a one liner calling someone or their story stupid then it will not see the light of day. Everyone may not agree with my decisions at all times but I do the best I can. There are over 11,000 comments on this site right now, all of which were approved by me. If I made a mistake at some point and allowed some comment to go through that I shouldn’t have – oh well, we are all human.

  10. It's Me says:

Im sorry to hear all the bad things that have happened to you. Now you say in your town they have strong beliefs of curanderas and santerias, i too am a strong believer of curanderas so i dont think one bit that you are crazy or going crazy maybe you should go see one to see if they could perform a “limpia” cleansing, i sometimes think the someone has put a curse on my family too. It seems that no one in my family can get ahead, i have relatives who have taken wrong turns everything always seems to go wrong in all of our lives like were struck with bad luck, i strongly urge you to go see one i heard in mexico there are alot of them who practice stuff like that and i dont mean a physic curanderas are different then them. Good luck and God Bless.

  11. Nicole says:

I’m sorry about all your problems. I was tormented by a demon (or somethin’ scary!) when I was a child. In the end, demons don’t like the light. Stay in the light. (Both the light of God, and much lighting in your home ) and try not to be afraid. They feed off your fear. Surround yourself with family, and don’t give too much thought to curses or the dark side. The more you allow them to control your life, the more they will. Just focus on God, and the good things in life.Eventually, these occurences will subside if you allow them no place in your life. In other words, be strong and think positive. Get out a lot, take care of yourself, and put your faith and trust in God. He’s always with you, as long as you accept Him. :)

  12. ihorizon says:

WOW!!! I agree with Nicole!!! Pray in the LORD and read Matthew and rebuke Satan and his minions as they know their time is short. Pray that Jesus live in your heart and ask for forgiveness. Rebuke the evil spirits as Jesus commanded, Get thee behind me, Satan.

  13. Sam says:

Guys!!! Thanks so much for your prayers, guidance, and comments! Thank you even for the abusive comments! LOL! But to be honest…I ask that no one feel sorry for me. These experiences, or whatever they may have been, have made me a strong woman. My family has been a strong support system, and I set out to change my relationships with everyone in my life. And YES GOD was the reason for this change! Thanks to all!

  14. Rose Strailo says:

I just read your story and wow, to have gone through SOOOO much and still be alive and sane is a great achievement. *hugs you* I’m sorry that you have gone through this but, as stated before, believe in God, trust in his power and can I offer a mental excersise that I use?

When you’re alone and have some time to just relax, close your eyes and send a prayer to God. Ask him to protect you with the light of His love. Now, while you do this, you need to imagine a form of warm light. Either a globe of light, a cross or a sword, three forms you would really associate with God. While you pray imagine the item settling down in the middle of your home and the light surrounding it spreading out, sweeping away the evil and cruelty that surrounds you. Once you have swept all of that out, imagine the light forming a shield that surrounds your home, blessing each person who comes in.

It works for me and worked for me after I ended up with some not so nice imps in my apartment.

  15. arielle says:

    it may help
i dont no i cant talk if i havent expirenced it

  16. Karen M. says:

Is there anyway that you could talk to the ex mother-in-law and explain that she is also ruining the lives of her grandchildren, I agree with everyone have faith in GOD and nothing can touch you! Don’t believe in her, and her supposed powers anymore.

  17. shay l. says:

hi i just read your story i think that you should try an move an maybe get some kind of help from people who are in this kind of field of work in dealing with these kind of activitys an they can help you i’ve seen it on these documentries like ghost an demon paranormal activity this is ruing your lives an your daughters an it all has to do with that lady..well i hope you get rid of this an it sounds scary i wish you the best an may god be with you…

  18. Molly says:

hi my father was a medium and spiritualist and i too had experiences when i was a child especially, although luckily not all evil. my dad once told me that when these things happen you need to stay strong and imagine either a red rose slowly opening in a shaft of light or imagine you are walking through somewhere you feel safe and protected bathed in light. i also believe that everyone has a spiritual guide and it is just a case of trying to find them by beliveing in them. God bless you and protect you.

  19. E.M.B says:

Hmmm…I really am amazed at all this! You should be very, very, VERY proud for keeping sanity and your life after all this! I’ve never had an experience with spirits, but I do believe in there’s something in this world. Now, there may be things here, and, especially because it involves children, you should find answers. But, as long as they don’t harm you, you can be sure that you’re safe. If you feel they ARE trying to hurt you, my idea, is to get out A.S.A.P because who knows what they can do. Or, do my favorite option when I feel endangered, is pray to the Great Lord above, and Our Savior, and once you do that, NOTHING may harm, or endanger you again. God loves all, and won’t let anything hurt them unless he feels it’s their time, and it sure isn’t your family’s time. Best of luck to you!

    E.M.B

  20. Cheyenne says:

I just want to say that you are a very strong person, and I think you never really gave into your fear. A similiar thing happend to me a few months back, well a pastor told me somone was jealous of my family or something and there was a black shadow always in my house. It attacked my sister in my room and it felt like it always watched me.
We got the pastor to bless our house and he said theres something really evil. The dogs began to howl when he prayed. Luckily that too is behind me now, and being a teenager of only 15 I never really gave in to my fear. Just pray to the Lord our Saviour to help you and to protect you from all evil. Remember our battle is not one of flesh and blood, but in spirit. Dont let any evil forces ever break your spirit. Take that advice from a 15 year old ;)
My prayers are with you and your family, be strong and may God bless you sincerely.

  21. Jayson says:

Hi Sam, I don’t know if what I will say has already been posted (I lost interest in the comments with Woozle Wuzzles Childish spat (sorry, Caretaker))

Anyway, back to the matter at hand: It seems to me that everything emanates from your mother in law, however, it could also be interesting to try to figure if there is a link between the hauntings and the grey figure you saw (do you remember it being diliberately scary, or did it try to be reassuring?)
N-E-Way, as for your mother in law I believe she is the cause, if she deals in Witchcraft and is profoundly in hate with you… As to what Rose and Nicole and DarStarr were saying, it’s true, God will help you out, but only if you try to help yourself (at least that’s how he works with me, but then God is personal with everyone (great guy, him, and I’m not sarcastic))

If you can confront your mother in law, try to know exactly *why* she hates you, maybe she is possesed herself! I knmow that wouldn’t be surprising. I’ve dabbled in withcraft and the occult as a young adult and ended up being possesed myself, in that time (it lasted a good number of years but I won’t go into that) I started hating alot of people for trumped up reasons that sounded good at the time, but when you look at it in retrospect, it was pretty dumb…

N-E-Way, that’s about what I have to say, keep us updated!
