My husband and I were very good friends with our neighbor and his family, and still are very close with his widow and his son, who has, I’m sad to say, passed on as well within the past month or so due to cancer.

Stay Away From Ouija Boards

Everyone stay away from Ouija Boards! I played around with one when I was 22 years old, two years ago. I have never written my story and the people I told did not believe me. So now I just keep it to myself.

I was visiting some friends and playing with the board. It was the first time it was working for me. We were drinking and talking to it all night long. It was telling us a lot of true things that no one would know. You could literally feel the energy under the shot glass, you could tell it wasn’t us moving it. It told us it was a child around 12 that was stuck in between worlds. He had committed suicide. His life was a mixture of my friends and my life. Which we did not notice until later and it made us relate to this thing more.

Increase in Paranormal Activity After Reading These Stories

An increase in paranormal activity parallels my mere reading about same.

I’ve never really spent a lot of time investigating details about paranormal activity. However, just several months ago (when I bought a new notebook PC) I started spending more time on the internet reading stories from other users.

I’m a Christian, and I know a lot of other Christians that would disapprove of my reading material. I am trying to learn from other people’s experience. I’ve never touched a Ouija board, never studied or used witchcraft, astral projection, so on and so on. My only reading material lately has been about other people’s stories.

My story now is sort of a warning. Since I started reading I have been visited by a ghost (I guess) that was fooling around with the lights in the basement. That got my attention because it was so deliberate, and clearly the act of an intelligent being… trying to scare me. You know, lights …

Ouija Boards and Unfocused Attempts

I’ve used Ouija boards a number of times. They’re really just pieces of wood (or cheaper materials). It’s not the Ouija board that actually does anything, it’s the intent of the people using it.

In any case, such unfocused attempts to “contact the beyond.” (ha ha!) tend to result in:

1: nothing
2: people scaring their friends and themselves out of hysteria or prankishness
3: people’s subconscious minds playing tricks on them
4: possibly contact with whatever random critter is out there, who might claim to be Satan, John F. Kennedy, an alien ghost, or whatever else amuses them (or which they think they are in response to one’s desires)

Generally, when you start having extreme experiences with a Ouija board, it’s not because anything external is happening – it’s because you’ve created a huge internal mythology about what you expect to happen, or fear could happen.

Shadow Man in the Top Hat

I haven’t seen him since I was a little kid, but the shadow man in the top hat used to visit me in the curtains of my bedroom. I thought he was the Boogeyman, but wasn’t especially afraid. I thought he’d come to carry me off, but he never did any harm, and wasn’t very menacing. A few years after that, I told my best friend about him, and he said that the same thing used to happen to him. As Nic Kelly says, there is something going on here. I’m nearly 36 now. It’s interesting to me that so many that experienced the man in the top hat are about my age.

Poltergeist or What?

My story took place when I was about 10 or 11 years old, but I think it may have actually started a little earlier. When I was 8 years old, my parents, my younger sister, and I moved in with my grandmother. My grandfather had passed away earlier that year, leaving my grandmother lonely and needing help keeping the bills straight. We were there to make things a little easier for her.

The house was(is) an old brick townhouse with only 2 bedrooms on the top floor and a bedroom in the basement. My grandmother kept her room on the top floor, my parents took the basement room, leaving me in the other top floor bedroom. My younger sister, who was 2 or 3 at the time, was supposed to share my room but ended up sleeping with my grandmother most nights.

Reincarnation of Bridie Murphy and Dad

My mother had 10 children with her first husband. A year after his death, I was born to my 45 year old mother, the result of a brief affair. When I was one year old, my mother met my step-dad who was 25 years younger than mom and younger than several of my half-siblings. Dad raised and loved me as his own, as he did not have children of his own.

I was first introduced to the concept of paranormal activity when I was around 12.  My Dad was a firm believer and we discussed it often. They fought all the time and my step dad would take his frustration at my mother having a job in a different hospital (they met in the ER both as nurses) on a gallon jug of wine every night and me and my two younger siblings.
