Dear readers this is the story which happened in my mother’s family and has been quoted generation by generation. The story was said by my mother’s grandmother’s aunt. She told it to her children. I will tell her story here as below:
Many years a ago, when technology hadn’t been developed, in each community there were women who were skillful in helping women to give birth and they were called midwife. My mothers’ grandmother’s aunt was a midwife. She was a brave, cool, wise and contriver woman. It is quoted that in hard situations she tried to save both life of mother and infant. She also went to neighbor villages to help Lucina women. Coldness of weather, difficulty of ways and etc. couldn’t prevent her from helping Lucina women. She described the event for her children as below:
It was a cold and dark night. The wind ululated. No one was in the alleys. All the people were in their homes. I turned off the lantern and slept. At the midnight, I heard someone is knocking the door. I said to myself it is wind or a cat or dog. But the knocks were continuous. I went to the door and opened it. It was a man. He was panicky and worried. He told me: my wife is giving birth to my child but she has problem, we need help. I told him: I am old, I am not young as past years and cant help you, walking in such darkness and cold weather is hard for an old woman like me. He entreated me. I commiserated for him. I said to him: OK, let me put on my coat and take my pack.
We walked with each other and passed the alleys one by one. We exited the village and entered the jungle. After walking in jungle, we arrived to a house which from one of the windows I could see the light of a lantern. We entered the house. In a room, a woman had lied on a bed. She was screaming and wringing the blanket with her hands. I opened my pack and brought out some clean clothes and told the man to bring me warm water. I was preparing myself and requirements, suddenly I saw the woman’s legs. They weren’t human’s leg, they were hooves. I was scared to death, I wanted to run but I remembered that she needs help and if I don’t help her, she will die. I said to myself: be calm, help is help, no difference to whom you help, it is your duty, you are an old woman what can happen for you? You lived enough.
I was in these thoughts when the man came to the room with a bucket of warm water. I told him: now go out and wait. I helped her to give birth to her child. When finished, I opened the door, I took my coat and pack and exited the room. The man entered the room. In the corridor I was putting on my coat and preparing myself to return when the man came to me happily and told me: thank you so much. You saved my wife and child. I escort you to your home. We leaved the house and went in way.
When we arrived to the door of my home he once more thanked me and gave me a sack as my wage. Then he went and I entered my home. I opened the sack and saw that it was full of shells of onion. I became angry and said to myself: after a hard work and high attempt, he just gave me onion shells. What kind of creatures are found in this world. I threw out the sack in the yard and went to sleep.
Next morning, I went to yard to empty the sack and at least take the sack. Incredibly I saw that all the onion shells have been turned to jewelry. I became surprised and astounded. I couldn’t believed my eyes. I ran to my childrens house with the sack in my hand.
Writer: after that event they became rich and till now her grand children and her generation are one of the rich families in the town. All her age mates were dead and instead of relatives no one knows the reason of their richness. It is essential to say that the old woman and some of people of the village went to the jungle to search and find the house but there was no sign of any house. The event happened to old woman was like a dream the only proof that proved she is right, was the jewelry.

Elves arent real. i dont believe you.
i knw its a true story but the characters are different, the story which i read somewhere………..it was not elf but jin……..n he gifted her wheat grains but not onion shells
I am from China. I heard my grandma told me similar stories. The different is that the fox appear to us as human. After the baby was born, he had a tail. The fox gave the midwife some soybeans in return and the midwife threw them away. After she got home, she found out there were 2 soybeans stuck in the holes of her clothes. The soy beans turned out to be gold.
Several years ago, I read a fable about Djin having to ask an old woman to help give birth to their “children.” People living in that region of the world believe that Djin are some sort of being between man and angels/demons, as I recall.
Whether these stories are real or not, they are still very entertaining. Incidentally, the Djin have blue skin, just like the Disney movies. I can’t recall the movie title, but Robin Williams played the part of the genie in the lamp. Robin Williams is always entertaining, a great actor and improvisor.
I loved the story….it’s great that it’s a story long tiold in your family over the generations!
i would be cool if it was true, but i dont believe it sorry.
