Not All Ouija Board Sessions are Bad

Posted on April 7, 2011

~ Brief Note from the Author ~

Ok so I’ve been reading through all the true stories on here, and thought I’d contribute. What I’ve noticed is that most of these stories are about BAD experiences, but no good ones. It’s giving Ouija Boards a bad reputation that they don’t deserve. Research them, THEN do one. (All people are 17)

~ Actual Story ~

It was one week before Halloween, on a Friday afternoon. I was excited for the simple fact that I had been waiting for today for several weeks. I’M finally going to do a Ouija Board!

The Ouija

The Ouija

It was about midnight (12 AM) when we started. (We being myself, and my two friends; Jane and Linda [Names changed for privacy])

We set up the space. Being a Wiccan, I had already done extensive research on Ouija Boards. So we set up the board on a small, circular table. (Yes, you should use a circular table) We didn’t have a planchette to use, so we just used one of Jane’s mother’s shot glasses, so we could still see the letters and numbers that would be scrolled across.

We then blew out a candle that had already been lit (you should catch the candle smoke in the upside-down glass) and placed the shot glass in the center of the board. We re-lit the candle (it was white because white symbolizes purity; i.e. it offers protection) then cast a protection spell around us.

Following the little spell cast, all three of us placed our smallest finger on the shot glass, and all moved it around in circular motions to ‘warm’ up the board. Then we waited …

… It took about half an hour to actually do anything. (You should be patient, and wait 10 minutes before restarting) We re-did the ritual 3 times, and then while sitting down, concentrating, a fly started buzzing around, being a nuisance. Then it flew away somewhere and disappeared. [Now as I am typing this, I am wondering if that was possibly a sign.]

Then the glass started to move… Naturally, we were all suspicious and blamed one another for moving it, but we soon realized it wasn’t any of us moving it. My heart started racing excitedly, but I was also semi-scared. Someone else was there…

We started off with basic questions, i.e. How old are you?, Are you from the ‘other’ world, etc.

The thing that completely shocked us was when it answered “Who are you?” It slowly spelt out M-A-V-I-S. Jane then got really emotional. She proceeded to tell us that Mavis was an elderly lady, who was like a best friend to her who passed away several years before. She was one of the only people who Jane really cared for (Jane was depressed and suicidal … She hated society)

Now that we knew who it was, we started other questions. (I should add here that Jane’s elder brother is going out with Linda)

Examples of questions were:

- “Do you want your husband to re-marry?” The shot glass spelt out H-A-P-P-Y
- “Do you like [elder brother's name]‘s girlfriend?” The shot glass moved to no.
- “I wish I could have tried your lemon meringue pie.” The shot glass moved to Goodbye.

After moving to Goodbye, the spirit of Mavis was gone. We sat there in awe for several moments, then started discussing what had occurred. Apparently, Linda was not exactly Mavis’ lucky person. (She did not hate her. When she was alive, she merely cared for Jane and her family, and was rather stern with newcomers)

So end the story.

~ Author’s Thoughts ~

So as you can see… Even though this story lacks elements of danger, intensity, pain, etc., it details safe methods of doing Ouija Boards. Also, I thought I should share this for the simple fact to highlight that not ALL Ouija Board’s are dangerous. If you know what you are doing, and are careful and concentrate, you won’t face any problems.

Hope you enjoyed.

are you kidding me?insted of reading up on the boards try reading your bible!you have no idea of the horrors when you mess with one of those horrid things, the fact that there are so many stories about all the bad as you put it,should stand as a warning to every man, woman and child!

    • Diana says:

While I don’t agree with the writer’s conclusion that Ouija boards can be tools of goodness, there is one thing I would like to say. Not all people believe in the Christian concept of God. Not all people believe or wish to read the bible. It’s important to realize this and be tolerant of others’ religious beliefs. You don’t have to believe in them, just be respectful. I think we need to remember that religion is a very private matter to most of us, and not something we should shove down each others’ throats.

      • stan says:

Diana, very, very well said. Having said that – you should know that I am a 100 percent, born-again, God-fearing, bible reading, trusting in my lord and saviour Jesus Christ, Christian believer. I truly wish that every human being could experience the joy, peace and soul-warming comfort that accompanies a true relationship with the entity that created us. I think that many Christians feel the same way, and in our excitement, we often come across as a little over-zealous, and over-bearing, and yes, even holier-than-thou. You seem like a very mature, good-natured, loving person – and for all i know, you could be a Christian also. If not, I pray that you will be some day – and in the interim, thanks for being patient with those of us who feel that the sacrifice that Jesus made is so significant that we have to shout it from the mountain tops!

        • Diana says:

          Stan,

I’m not sure if I would call myself a devout Christian. I believe in God, and Jesus, and I also believe some things that I’ve read in the bible…but, I am by nature, a very curious individual, and slightly skeptical of some things that I’ve been told in church. I certainly believe in a loving creator, and I pray daily. I just believe in my heart that religion is a deeply personal matter, and that each person must come to their own conclusions as to how and why we were put here on Earth. I believe that to be a crucial part of our spiritual development.

I do understand why people want to share their beliefs with others. When we have found what we believe to be the ultimate truth, it’s hard not to want to tell everyone and share this grand spiritual gift that we’ve been given. Truly, I do.

          Love and Light,
          Diana

You are lucky you don’t invite the demon or any evil spirit on your experiment. And I agree that Ouija Board can be used for good. After all, it’s just a tool for commune with spirit. It depends on the user wether it is used for good or bad. My advice is, don’t ever do it alone. Make sure there are another person you can rely on, whenever you’re in danger. Okay? Keep it on your mind, and enjoy your “adventure”! Hehehehe!

  3. BekkieLassy says:

I totaly agree with all of you commenters.
It’s agenst the will of God to contact the dead.
But theres people who grew up not knowing about God and have difrent religions. We just have to respect that. I to would want the hole human population tho be Christians and turn to God’s will, but the sad truth is that it won’t happen.

Again the writer started the game in the right way and didn’t force the spirit to go on after saying goodbuy.
It’s dangerous if you do it all wrong and 99% of us do not know the right way to play the game and that is why we encorrige people to play it. They might just play it in the wrong way and end up fatel.
If you have a demon in your house you sould stay far away from the ouiji board coase chances are 99.99% that you will be contacting the demon and then youll be in trouble.
So I still say. Stay away from a Ouiji Board coase its dangerous

  4. Anonymous says:

Bohdi, this is what the spirit wants to make you think. That o its really nice, when unexpectedly you’ll regret touching one of these boards. None of the entities that talk to you from the boards are good. Ouija boards are evil and people should stay away from them at all costs!!

  5. missy louise says:

you couldnt have read my story to well then as its not bad at all. i dont agree with telling people to do one as they are not a game or a joke. i use the board often but i use it when i feel im being given signs to use it. i must stress i am very well protected by my watcher so i feel safe doing the board but would only do it on my terms with people i trust. i believe it shouldnt be used by people who have no clue what they are doing you sound as though you did know which is good but please dont tell people to go and use a O board they may not be so lucky.

  6. apostleled says:

As a servant of Christ I am to love God and my neighbor without expectation, judgement, or pride. Muslim, Jewish, Wiccans and all the other religions are my neighbors. Therefore I am to love them where they are. I do not try to shove Jesus down there throat but simply try to show them the Fathers love through me. Infact the greatest command is to love God with everything then the second is to love your neighbor as yourself. Scripture also states you will know his disciples by there love. Many claim Christ but walk in hate, judgement, and condemnation of others different from them and in my opinion that is not Gods Character. As to this article This scripture speaks to my spirit the most on this topic hope it is useful to those who recieve it:

ISAIAH 8 -19 When someone tells you to consult mediums and spiritists, who whisper and mutter, should not a people inquire of their God? Why consult the dead on behalf of the living? 20 Consult God’s instruction and the testimony of warning. If anyone does not speak according to this word, they have no light of dawn. 21 Distressed and hungry, they will roam through the land; when they are famished, they will become enraged and, looking upward, will curse their king and their God. 22 Then they will look toward the earth and see only distress and darkness and fearful gloom, and they will be thrust into utter darkness.

    • stan says:

Wow – i could not have stated it more succinctly! Thanks for sharing that bit of scripture with us, Apostle led…

  7. Bohdi says:

    Hey guys,

Thanks for actually reading my story. I want to clear up something.

I am NOT Christian, so there is no point telling me personally that it is against God’s will, etc, because I do not believe in God or Jesus Christ (well not the Christian god). There is no point explaining Biblical quotes to me, etc, because I do not have faith in Christianity.

You all have your opinions that Ouija Boards are evil things that should destroyed, etc, and you are entitled to your opinion. But please remember, this story is MY PERSONAL opinion and view, not everyones.

I appreciate the concern from some commentors saying it’s evil and to not do it, but remember that that is your opinion. MY opinion is that not ALL Ouija Board experiences are evil (hence the title of the story)

I DID know what I was attempting when I did the Ouija Board. I did it with people I trust. I knew that white candles should be used, protection chants, etc should be done. I’m not actually telling people that they should DO one, I’m suggesting that if you DO, do your research first and understand the risks that could happen.

I haven’t done a Ouija Board since then. As I said, this is my personal experience. This is what happened to me. I’m not saying that the spirit was Mavis or not, whether the entity was evil or good, I’m merely stating that this experience was not bad.

    • BekkieLassy says:

In my comment I explained that most of the people do not know how to begin and end the game. Thats why we ask them not to use it at all couse by playing it wrong it can turn into something bad. You know how to play it so thats why yours wasn’t bad. Maby if you can give some points on how to correctly use the ouiji board then maby more people can use it wisely and end up being save.
What do you think? You can help a lot of people couse curiosity is a strong feeling and then people do things they don’t have a clue about and then they get hurt.

  8. Big Chief says:

What in the world… That was one of the shortest sessions I’ve ever seen in my life!!! I couldn’t too much gather anything out of the session. Question, how do you know your method is the safe way if you only used the board once and did a small session. Shouldn’t you do multiple sessions first to test if your method is actually safe? Having 1 good session then declaring that your method is a safe method is kinda misleading. You need to try some more sessions before you declare your method as safe. Good session though, I guess.

  9. Rosie says:

When you publish your story here, you should expect to get all kinds of comments. It doesn’t matter what you like to hear or what you don’t, people give their opinions anway. I believe most of the people here just tried to help you and each one of them gave comment according to their religions or personal experience in life.

As a reader, I believe in Jesus and I know the fact by reading the Bible that we are not supposed to contact the spirits, but you can have your free will and your personal belief like everybody else. I am not trying to judge you since I am a sinner just like everybody else and I also know one day we will all be judged by Jesus. That is just my opinion. Don’t have any intension to offend anybody.

  10. Hannah says:

I think that it’s cool that you and your friends were able to experiment that. I myself would like to do a Ouija board, and most of my friends have done them. Most of them say that someone who was in their group became “posessed”, adn I’m glad you did it without getting hurt. Just stay careful, please?

  11. Bernadine says:

My answer is yes. you are a good writer. Keep up the good safety notes! :-)

  12. PaulNugent says:

Ouija board is very dangerous. I was possessed by a demon when I was ten during a Ouija board session with my sister who was nine and under my parents’ supervision. Why? because the kids cannot move the planchette by themselves or understand the questions ask by the adults. My parents thought it was harmless but it wasn’t. The demon did answer their questions but also took on my mind and body. I spoke with a coarse voice of an adult and would waked up and walked around the house from midnight to six in the morning and I did not even know. A local priest did an exorcism on me and the demon left. I am sorry I don’t want to continue.

  13. scarygirl67 says:

I think this is a very interesting take on what we normally hear about the Ouija board. My feelings about it have zigzagged, but at this stage of the game..no I don’t see it as portal to demons or hell. What would demons (if they exist) need with a board? All they have to do is sit back and watch while humanity destroys each other. I can’t believe people worry about a board being demonic when NATO just bombed a home that Ghadafi was at and ended up killing three of his grandchildren, which is just going to make all of that stuff over there worse. Humanity walks around in a sea of selfishness every day, breeding intolerance and injustice. And people are worried about a board??

  14. EHvp12 says:

wow hope i remember this story if i ever use an o board do u have any tips?

  15. Bohdi says:

    @Ehvp12

Off the top of my head, I have several tips.

    1. NEVER EVER be rude. Always be respectful.

    2. For added protection, light white candles.

    3. Keep an open mind. If you want the Ouija Board to work, then you have to believe it will. It doesn’t always work first time.

    4. Make sure you know a protection chant to say.

    5. Always do a white light visualization. It helps for protection.

    6. NEVER EVER ask a spirit to show themselves. No exceptions!

    7. Never do one when you are tired.

    8. At the end of a session, always thank the spirit (regardless of whether they were helpful or not)

    9. At the beginning of a session, be specific in what you would like. E.g. “I ask that only spirits and entities with good intentions are welcome here.”

    10. Always move the planchette or glass (whichever you prefer) to “Goodbye” when you want to end a session.

    11. If you feel unsafe, scared or in danger, immediately end the session.

    12. Pre-prepare questions. It’s awkward and stupid if you get a spirit and you just sit there awkwardly and silent.

    13. If you do encounter a spirit through the bored, remember to be polite and respectful. You are in the presence of paranormality here!

    14. If you do a Ouija Board, stay safe but enjoy!

These are just a few tips, but I’d suggest you research more if you plan to do a Ouija Board for the first time. Read GOOD and BAD stories. Research more tips. Read experience. Etc.

    Hope this helps!
    Regards,
    Bohdi

    • Paul says:

Just to add some general rules:

      15. Only ask questions, never demand something of the spirit(s).
      16. What is opened, MUST be closed. If it’s not closed, the portal into our world is open for any spirits to come through and take permanent residence in your life.
      17. And to piggy-back off of tip #1, NEVER provoke a spirit in order to get it to do something (like calling it a coward or other names) these spirits ARE more powerful than you and if you piss them off, they can ruin your lives

  16. Jeff says:

I have EXTENSIVE experience in communication devices. Quija, Zyria, pendulum boards ect ect ect. . . .
I have gained some degree of trust with a couple of these things and they informed me that they ARE NOT DEAD PEOPLE. They were NEVER people. They were always what they are. And, somehow they have the ability to know intimate things about people thereby convincing them that they are dead relatives or passed friends and such. I shun away from the word DEMON because they aren’t all so bad but MANY of them are quite mischievous and WILL lie in order to convince you of their false identity. And, YES . . . . they will know things that only you and that person would have known.

Just be careful and know what you’re REALLY working with.

  17. EHvp12 says:

thanks i bet it will help alot and i will do more research

  18. Paul says:

I’ve had both good and bad Ouija board experiences. Everything that comes through the board is a “demon” but not all “demons” are the evil beings that biased spiritual texts claim them to be. It all depends on which spirit decides to come through the board that night as to whether you’ll get a good experience or not. I’ve had a spirit come through on the board that was hilarious and do nothing but crack jokes for a while and then it moves to goodbye when it’s had enough. But I’ve also had spirits come through and they’re just from the deepest, most foul pit in the other world and now that they get the chance to get out, they take it and they’re just nasty to everybody and doing nothing but spelling out curses and telling us to die and forming upside down pentagrams and crosses and that it’s going to kill us and our families and sometimes it doesn’t even let the planchette move to goodbye, it’ll just hold it in place and we cant budge it.

Basically what I’m saying is that it all depends on what type spirit comes through the board as to whether your experience will be good or not that time. So you’re right, people thinking the Ouija board will do nothing but bring pain is a false, ignorant claim. The only time it will bring pain is if you don’t know what you’re doing before you do it and say something dangerous like “show us a sign of your presence” which then invites the spirit out of the board into your home and your life to prove that it’s there.. over and over.

And by the way, you’re very smart to burn a white candle and say a protection prayer before doing it. It wont always protect you because some demons are just BAMF strong and go through it but it’s a very good way to approach it. Try burning sage around yourselves before and after sessions, as well, to prevent spirits from following you out of the board if you say one wrong thing like most people do. If you ever do it again that is.

  19. Missy says:

“Its giving Ouija Boards a bad reputation that they dont deserve??”.. What nonsense!!

  20. Missy says:

No good ever comes from ouija boards!

  21. Bohdi says:

    @Missy

if you are just going to criticise my opinions and call them nonsense, then don’t bother wasting your time.

  22. johnny says:

ouija boards are not good I REPEAT NOT GOOD… because it is an occult item … never the less your not communicating with mavis your communicating with an EVIL SPIRIT… …you see spirits are all around us right now they are listing down things you have done (like sins and etc) and use it against you LIKE THIS ONE… they are waiting for the time to DESTROY YOU… and because it is an occult item.. good spirits can NEVER COME (good spirits are angels)

  23. Seth says:

From a religious stand point I agree Ouija boards aren’t good at all ever. But not all of us are Christian and as such what God says doesn’t amount to a hill of beans to them. I look at Ouija boards the same way you do a chatroom, you can’t know who you are talking to or if what is being said is the truth. I have used a Ouija board and I believe my story is still on here (if I find it I’ll share the link on a comment) and some times were more benign than others but you have to remember that there are entities out there that are not human and don’t have good intentions. And like online predators these entities will use their powers of persuasion to convince you of things that simply aren’t true.
