Last summer my cousin (Lindsay) and I (Jennifer) decided to hunt for ghosts at Mounds State Park in Anderson, Indiana. We have read and heard about many odd happenings at the park, from little blue gowned people (never seen them) to crying security guards at the gatehouse (never heard it).
I started my search alone, and had several odd things happen. It seemed like something was trying to keep me from looking. I had a walnut fall out of a tree and hit me in the head. I thought someone had hit me, but no. I ended up having to go home, because I was crying and had a huge bump on my head for about a week. Next time, and the time after that I fell while walking around the Great Mound. It felt like someone had pushed me.
Finally, last summer Lindsay and I started hunting together. We were walking around the Bronnenberg house and saw a trail behind the house leading to the ruins of a springhouse. We went down the trail to look at it. Even though I have lived near the park for 28 years I never knew that that trail was there or that a springhouse was behind the house.
Anyway, lets get back to the story. We were coming back up the trail and I had this strange feeling that someone was waiting at the top of the trail for me. I glanced up and I swear that I saw a woman with brown hair pulled up into a bun, wearing a high collared white shirt and long brown skirt. I didn’t say anything to Lindsay. I didn’t want to scare her, because it was almost dark, I told her that we should go and we would come back later.
The next day, we went back. I brought my camera and we went walking around the park. I said that I wanted to go back by the house to take some pictures, but Lindsay said that she didn’t want to go to the house again. I explained that I had seen something there and she said, “I know, I saw a woman with brown hair in a bun, and a white shirt with ruffles around her neck and a long brown skirt. She was standing at the top of the trail waiting for us.”
Now, keep in mind that I never told her what I had seen the day before. How could she have known exactly what I saw if it wasn’t real and she hadn’t seen it too? She couldn’t have read about such a ghost, because we have never heard about a woman haunting the house. There are stories about Mr. Bronnenberg being seen in the windows, a slave outside the house, and moving objects inside the house.
Well, now that it is getting warmer, I think Lindsay and I will start ghost hunting again. Hopefully, we will catch something on film, or see something again. We will let you all know!
