Haunted Park

Posted on May 24, 2008

Last summer my cousin (Lindsay) and I (Jennifer) decided to hunt for ghosts at Mounds State Park in Anderson, Indiana. We have read and heard about many odd happenings at the park, from little blue gowned people (never seen them) to crying security guards at the gatehouse (never heard it).

I started my search alone, and had several odd things happen. It seemed like something was trying to keep me from looking. I had a walnut fall out of a tree and hit me in the head. I thought someone had hit me, but no. I ended up having to go home, because I was crying and had a huge bump on my head for about a week. Next time, and the time after that I fell while walking around the Great Mound. It felt like someone had pushed me.

Finally, last summer Lindsay and I started hunting together. We were walking around the Bronnenberg house and saw a trail behind the house leading to the ruins of a springhouse. We went down the trail to look at it. Even though I have lived near the park for 28 years I never knew that that trail was there or that a springhouse was behind the house.

Anyway, lets get back to the story. We were coming back up the trail and I had this strange feeling that someone was waiting at the top of the trail for me. I glanced up and I swear that I saw a woman with brown hair pulled up into a bun, wearing a high collared white shirt and long brown skirt. I didn’t say anything to Lindsay. I didn’t want to scare her, because it was almost dark, I told her that we should go and we would come back later.

The next day, we went back. I brought my camera and we went walking around the park. I said that I wanted to go back by the house to take some pictures, but Lindsay said that she didn’t want to go to the house again. I explained that I had seen something there and she said, “I know, I saw a woman with brown hair in a bun, and a white shirt with ruffles around her neck and a long brown skirt. She was standing at the top of the trail waiting for us.”

Now, keep in mind that I never told her what I had seen the day before. How could she have known exactly what I saw if it wasn’t real and she hadn’t seen it too? She couldn’t have read about such a ghost, because we have never heard about a woman haunting the house. There are stories about Mr. Bronnenberg being seen in the windows, a slave outside the house, and moving objects inside the house.

Well, now that it is getting warmer, I think Lindsay and I will start ghost hunting again. Hopefully, we will catch something on film, or see something again. We will let you all know!

Wow. Seeing a ghost is scary, but actually being touched by one is worse.

I beg you both to be careful. If something feels off, get out and away right away!

Ghost may seem nice, but some are willing to kill.

Just like in my story, the part where it says the ghost wanted to kill my friends boyfriend at the time, and the nexxt day he was in a car accident.

I have a feeling she is nice, my vibes have never been wrong, but something about her is telling me that you should leave her alone.

    Please, be careful.

I with him on the woman. But the walnut might not have been the cause of bump on your head. It was a warning but not death is to come apoun you if you continue.

I hope that nothing evil is there, since I live across the street from the park. I have never heard about anything really bad happening there. The Bronnenberg family that used to own the land where my house is and the park is settled here after either one if their children became ill and died or one of their oxen died. The family donated the land for the park and for a orphan’s home, so I would say that the family was good and wouldn’t wish harm on anyone.
The Indian ceremonial mounds may be a different story.
I have been back many times (mostly in the day for a hike) since my cousin and I wrote this, but haven’t had anything else really happen. I did have a gray and black striped cat follow me on my walk the other day after seeing a dead gray and black striped snake with its head smashed on the trail. Of course, that could have just been a coincidence.

We just back back from a weeks Stay at Mounds, we camped. My 16 year old took her digital camera and got an image of in Indian standing next to a tree, and another one of a bear…very strange. They were both at the Great Mound. We went back at night and took the camera again, we caughter tons of orbs there. I felt someone watching me from behind, and I turned quickly with my flashlight and saw a women with her hair in a bun looking at me from behind a tree. But she looked more like an Indian women to me. I only saw her face. We also went to the C Mound at almost dark and we caught moving images on video. Including a long flowing brown skirt that was twirling around, like someone turned very fast. Then night we were coming back from the Great Mound I felt some one walking behind my husband and myself. He left as we reached the parking lot where our van was. We also went down by the white river, by the boat launch and the amounts of orbs there were out of this world. There were so many you couldn’t see anything else. We even went out during the day again on the trails and caught more orbs during the say. That place has tons of spirts there.

My cousin and I went back to the park about a month ago, and we got a picture of an orb above the porch on the side of the farmhouse, and a week or so before that I took a picture of the springhouse(what’s left anyway) and saw very clearly the image of a man, just from his shoulders up between the rocks and weeds.
I don’t know if all of these things had to do with the picture or not, but the first time I downloaded the picture on my computer and tried to print it the computer deleted it off the computer completely. It was the only picture missing. It was still on my camera, though so I was able to print it off. Then, during the rest of my stay-cation my grandpa fell and broke his hip, my pool was full of spiders, it rained when I wanted to swim and was hot and sunny when I couldn’t swim, there was a nasty-looking snake in the backyard that I almost stepped on, and my tent and sleeping bag were covered in some kind of insect eggs that wouldn’t come off and I had to throw it all away. Things just seemed to go badly after that until I threw the picture away. Now, things seem to be calming down for now anyway. I think I’ll give the ghost hunting a rest for awhile.

Well, though i have never been there I have heard enough to know that there is paranormal activity in that park! Amazing that you and your friend BOTn saw that ghost of a woman at the same time (how do you explain that except to KNOW that it is paranormal?)… Are these mounds old indian burial mounds do you know? I have been to the Effigy Mounds and they are supposedly indian burial mounds but no-one knows for sure… be careful all of you!

  7. Jennifer says:

I don’t know if they are burial mounds or not. They have said that they were only ceremonial mounds at one time and that they were burial mounds at other times. The mounds are however lined up with the sun. There is a book that someone wrote about the mounds (it was a fiction story, some what based on things he had studied about the mounds) that the mounds were built because the Indians had seen the Star of Bethlehem. It was an interesting theory, but I don’t think we will ever know the truth.

  8. D.R. says:

It’s also amazing that Carol saw the same woman! Very cool. Hey, ladies, can you post your pictures some where so we can see them? I’d love to see the Indian and bear ones, for sure.
