Visit from the Dentist – Sleep Paralysis

Posted on October 6, 2010

Probably the scariest experience I have ever dealt with happened January 2006!  I was in Norway House, Manitoba working construction for a couple weeks.  It was on or about the 6th day that I’d been out there.  We finished work for the day, and had gone to the restaurant where we frequently ate after the day ended.  It was about 9PM when we got back to our hotel and went to our rooms to shower and what not… After I was done I went downstairs to rent the VCR because the TV’s weren’t PS2 compatible and I didn’t have an RF switch.

The girl working at the front desk was talking to another girl that must have been her friend, and the girl kept looking at me and looking away..  I was kind of flattered but felt a weird sense at the same time cause when I turned to look as I was walking away the front desk girls friend gave me a weird look and I did not know what to make of it.  I went upstairs to my room and played for a bit, had some more to eat, and then settled into bed for the night shutting the TV off.  There was no real sense of danger or anything that I could feel so I closed my eyes to go to sleep.

I remember falling into the deep stages of sleep after what felt like 10 minutes, but was really about 5 hours.  I remember opening my eyes, and it was like I was fully alive and awake, but this time something unsettling was about to take place..  I could feel something slowly crawling onto me from the end of the bed, and it crawled all the way up my body until I could feel it on my face.  I couldn’t do a single thing about it.  I was paralyzed!

What happened next was even more brutal and scary.  This thing or whatever this was started bashing me in the face, like it was trying to smash out all of my teeth.  It went on for what felt like minutes and I couldn’t scream, I remember trying to scream my lungs out because I was defenseless and I really thought this was happening.  I could literally feel my teeth and pieces of my teeth in my mouth as I moved my tongue around, spitting out the teeth and pieces of.

I realized that I had to do something quick or else this was not going to stop so I started moving/rolling my body as best as I could to try and build up motion.  I thought that maybe if I flung myself off of the bed I would wake up and it would be all over, and sure enough it worked.  As soon as I hit the ground I was able to get up.  Now really awake and scared to death I turned on the light above my bed, and then the one above the other bed, looked around the room and could see nothing.  I felt around in my mouth and I still had my teeth, it was like nothing had ever happened.  I then turned on the TV and turned the lights off, just so I had some light in the room.

It was 4:30AM when I looked at the clock before I went back to bed.  Now being confused and kind of scared, was not so easy to fall asleep.  I lay there for ten minutes and all of the sudden there was a knock at my door, I thought I was dreaming again, but this time I could move, so I got up to go check it out.  I knew it couldn’t be my boss because he didn’t ever knock on my door, just phoned my hotel room phone to see if I was awake.  I proceeded with caution to the door and didn’t look through the peep hole before I had opened the door.  I opened the door and to my surprise That same girl that had given me that evil weird look earlier in the lobby was standing right there, and she looked kind of intoxicated.  I said to her “Who are you and what are you doing at my room?”  She just walked in right past me without saying a word and sat at the end of my bed saying “I wanna get to know you” and other things I couldn’t really make out.

After telling her to leave several times she became slightly annoyed and started hitting the pillows, like pretty much hammer-fisting them.  I finally told her to calm down and she listened.  I lied to her and told her I was married with kids.  She instantly just got up off the bed, looked at me with that same look from earlier and walked right past me out the door.  I shut it and locked it and just couldn’t go back to sleep after that so I just waited til 6AM when we went to work.

You know, I thought about it all day at work, and finally realized something brutally chilling, sent a chill up my spine that made my body just rumble….  I realized that where the girl was hammer-fisting the pillows was exactly where my head would have been if I had been laying down, and I truly believe that the Sleep Paralysis experience was trying to tell me that something bad was going to happen to me if I didn’t get up..

That girl could have been smashing me in the face if I didn’t wake up when I did.  Maybe its just a coincidence, but you never know!
