My father always tells me a story from his childhood about the time when my grandfather took him along to his military out post to spend the night.
My grandfather was a soldier and he often got stationed to remote places. I never knew much about him because he died when I was very young. I only heard stories about him from my father and his siblings, they say my grandfather is the quiet type and he never likes too much attention.
Anyway, the story goes one day when my grandfather asked my father, being the eldest son, to accompany him to his outpost station to spend the night because he doesn’t want to sleep there alone. Without asking many questions my father came along and in that evening they had a filling supper and afterwards they settled down on one of the vacant rooms in the outpost. The night was damp and my father wasn’t very comfortable sleeping there.
Late that night my father was awoken by a rustling sound in the room, as if there was somebody moving something heavy. With his vision still a bit blurry as he lifts his head, he can clearly see the moonlight shining through the window and across the room he noticed a figure. He widened his gaze to see the figure a bit more clearly and he was surprised to realize it was a figure of girl and for some reason, he thought it was his older sister.
He was about to call out to the figure standing across the room when he realized that the figure seemed semi-transparent on the waist down and he can’t make out any feet or make out any details of her face. He just sat on his bed dazed for a while, and then he finally decided to wakeup my grandfather who was sleeping on the next bed beside him saying, “Hey pops sis Erlinda came to visit us!”
Like a hot toast fresh out of the toaster, my grandfather jumped out of his bed as if he was anticipating it and asked my father to describe what he saw. My father described the features of a girl wearing a red blouse and a dress standing across the room and he thought it was his older sister, but when they looked around there was nobody there. Without a word my grandfather packed their stuff and fled to the nearest police station to spend the rest of the night.
My father never asked why they suddenly left the outpost, but he was certain that something spooked my grandfather enough for them to flee in the middle of the night.
