Ghost Stories & Paranormal Encounters

This account is one of many accounts of my father’s encounters with the supernatural.  Because I have no supernatural encounters of my own, I find his fascinating. He is always reluctant to share these stories and he really does not like it when I urge him. I have previously posted his stories and I welcome you to check them out if you are interested, all have this note at the heading. They are all true stories of encounters he has had with the unexplained. Even though he is getting old and somewhat absent minded, he has told me these stories the exact same way every time I bug him enough to tell me and he actually gives in (its rare). My father is an extremely honest and patient person.

My dad was in his late twenties at the time this occurred. It was the 1960s and my dad was raised in a Christian home but did not always follow his faith. He and his girlfriend at the time, Helen, were invited to a party that his neighbor was having. There was to be a séance and Helen was very much interested in attending and participating, despite my dad’s reluctance.

They arrived at the party and everyone was mingling and chatting away. There was a table set in the middle of the room with maybe a dozen chairs around it, though there were well over a dozen people there.

My dad went into the kitchen to grab a drink for Helen and him. The kitchen was empty except for a rather grungy looking longhaired man.  My dad walked past him and began to pour the drinks but as he did, he said he could feel the man, staring at him. The feeling was so strong he was compelled to look up. The moment he did my dad jumped slightly, startled at what he saw. The man looked furious, enraged even. He started screaming profanities at him, waving his arms about. The man seemed to want my dad to leave, to “get out because he had no business there”. My dad then heard a low growl, kind of like a cat when it is mad but the man’s lips did not move his expression unchanging. And just as suddenly, the man turned and left the room!

My dad said nothing, astonished. He left the kitchen and walked right over to Helen who was sitting on a nearby couch. He told her what happened, that the man was screaming loudly and Helen asked what my dad did to him and he said, “Nothing!” replied my father offended, “Never seen the guy before in my life!” She said she had not heard a thing and apparently, no one else had either, though my dad was sure the man had made enough noise to alert neighbors!

Just then, the same man who had acted so extreme the moment before approached the now full séance table. My dad said that his demeanor had changed completely; he now smiled friendly and talked in a calm voice.  He introduced himself as their “guide”, welcomed everyone who had come and thanked the neighbor who had invited him. He said that they would begin the preparations for the séance shortly.

My dad shocked told Helen he did not feel comfortable staying and they left. It did not occur to my dad why the man had reacted so strongly against my father until a few years later, when he understood his faith a little better. He believes that it was because the man was demon possessed, and he was reacting to my father’s relationship with Jesus Christ.
