Ghost Stories & Paranormal Encounters

Before I begin I guess I should lay a few lines out. When I was younger I lived with my grandparents, because my mother was dead and my father was gone. Now, they left me home alone a lot, especially in my teen years, but I liked this because what teenager doesn’t, really? And it gave me time to do what I wanted. But then something strange happened.

I would usually be in my bedroom or the study, and I would hear breathing coming from my grandparents room. Now, from my understanding, two people have died in this house. My own mother (who died in the bathroom), and my grandmother’s father (I don’t know exactly where he died.) This was an old house, built in the 1940′s. I never thought it to be creepy, although to be honest, for some years after my mother died I would never feel comfortable in the bathroom she died in, so I always used the other one. It always had an odd air to it. It still gives me the chills to this day.

Anyway, I would be minding my own business, home ALONE, mind you, when I would hear breathing. I would know if someone came in the house because I always locked the doors, and plus the study and my bedroom was near the front door and back door. The breathing always came from one place – my grandparents bedroom. Mostly I would ignore it, thinking I just heard things, because the house does creak a bit and stuff, being not built very well. But sometimes when I couldn’t stand it I would go and check my grandparents bedroom, just to be sure I wasn’t crazy. Half the time I expected that my grandparents had came home and I just hadn’t noticed, but that was impossible. Anyway, the first time I checked the bedroom, I could still hear the breathing clear as day. The nearer I got to the bed the louder it got, and it seemed like there was a lump on the bed, a body. Whenever I fooled with the covers, however, there was nothing under them. It always creeped me the hell out.

Let me just say my grandparents had a LOT of old paraphernalia in their bedroom. They had my grandmother’s grandfather’s walking cane in the closet (a man born sometime in the 1860s I think), a lot of old papers and pictures, my grandma’s mom’s old bible, a box that held a dress my grandma’s sister wore once (the sister that died when she was a baby), some of my mom’s old yearbooks, newspaper clippings dating from the 1900s (I believe)… just stuff like that. Also, I would hear odd thumping around the house sometimes.

Is there a spirit in this house? Of my mother, or my grandmother’s father? I don’t know.
