In February or March last year, a bunch of friends and I were invited to my other friend Jackie’s birthday party. We went to the pool, which was of course indoors. That part was fun. But we left when it got dark and were dropped off at Jackie’s house. The setting alone should’ve warned me-it was a big creepy house in the woods. I myself am not partial to places like that, and looking back I wonder why I didn’t leave right away. But stupid me, I didn’t. Which, as it turned out,was a bad decision.
It started as soon as we got inside. There was this big glass room facing into the woods (actually in the woods really) and we kept thinking we saw things running around there, so we were scared to begin with. As the night went on, the candles on Jackie’s cake seemed to almost blow themselves out. Then when we were opening presents, we all looked at a certain spot for no reason. We never could explain it…. it was just that something was undeniably there. We knew something had been there.
Then another friend of mine who happened to be there left. She felt it was dangerous to be there. I wished I could, but it was already nearly midnight and Mom and Dad would never have forgiven them for getting them out of bed that late. So I stayed.
We went to bed in the living room. There was a big window facing out and we were really scared, but the only other option was the glass room. When we were in our sleeping bags, we saw a red light on the wall in front of us. However, there was nothing to make the light. We looked all over. Later, at school we would learn that another girl who had been to the house had seen it in the exact same place on a completely different occasion. Then, even though we were terrified, we somehow managed to go to sleep.
When we woke up, it was bright and sunny and it seemed like the terror was over. Until we went outside. Jackie had this old tree in her yard with a rope for climbing. As soon as I climbed on the rope, the wind began blowing and I clearly heard someone call my name from the woods. As I listened, it said to stop because I could get hurt. I quickly jumped off. As soon as I did the wind stopped. But when I asked who had called my name, they all stared blankly. It hadn’t been one of my friends. So naturally, I was terrified. But curiosity got the best of me so I jumped on again. No voice, but the wind blew again.
All of a sudden, my friend Michelle who was standing next to me had a vision of someone hanging from a tree. We both got away from that tree fast. But while we ran, Michelle felt an invisible foot kick her, right where someone’s foot would’ve been if they were hanging. We ran faster. We ran over to the parents and begged them to get us out of there. They saw we were really scared and did. And since we were all hearing different things we were freaked.
When we were leaving, a song about that came on. Needless to say, I went home in a foul mood and swore to myself I would never go back. And I haven’t.
All this is true, really! It happened in Maryland. And I have not yet gone back to that house and never will.
