I am the oldest child and when we were growing up I got the downstairs bedroom which was on the first floor of our two story house and we called it the green room. My two sisters and one brother slept upstairs in the redone attic.
When I was about 11 years old I woke up in the middle of the night for some unknown reason to me. My bed was against the wall in the corner and I slept with the door almost all the way open. Upon awakening I saw a man almost as tall as the top of the door. He wasn’t in color but in shadow’s. Dark and grey. He had on a black old hat that reminded me of Abe Lincoln’s hat and a long black trench coat. He was moving very very slowly towards the edge of the door and behind the door. I was paralyzed with fear and after a while I thought to myself that this is crazy I need to go to sleep so I hopped out of bed and ran to the door and slammed it shut because by that time the man was behind the open bedroom door. Needless to say there was nothing there and I totally forgot about him until many years later and never told anyone because I thought it was just shadows.
During one of our family gatherings probably 10 – 15 years later we got discussing weird things that happened in our house. My sister started telling about a man she saw in the green room one night after I moved out and she got the room. I perked up and listened. I asked her to describe what she saw, what he was wearing, how tall he was and where he was and what he did. It was the same thing I saw. The exact same thing in the exact same spot and doing the same thing which was just watching and moving very slowly behind the door.
Many years later my daughter would stay the night at her grandma’s and sleep in the green room. Again we had a family gathering and we discussed weird things because it seem there was always something weird in our house when we were growing up until my mom had the house blessed. My daughter started telling all of us about a man in the green room and what she saw when she awoke in the middle of the night. It was the same thing, same hat and coat and movements. So, Now I know for a fact I wasn’t seeing shadows at all. He was a ghost. Mom tells me since he was real tall he could have been my uncle who died in the house way before we moved in because he was tall and he wore a funny hat.
I know what I saw and I know I didn’t tell anyone about what happened so my sister and daughter weren’t making up their accounts either.
My daughter wasn’t around the first time my sister told us about the man in the green room and then it was years again before we discussed him again.
