Ghost Stories & Paranormal Encounters

Well I was about seven or eight when one night I was told by my grandmother that she thought that she was being visited by my grandfather at night. I had asked her what made her think that she was, and she told me that at the same time every night while she would be lying in bed watching the news she would either get the smell of a freshly struck match or the smell of pipe tobacco. Now my grandmother didn’t smoke and she told me that when my grandfather was alive every night before he turned in he would either smoke a cigarette or smoke his pipe.

My family lived on the corner of our road. My uncle and aunt lived in one side of the duplex while my mother and sister and I lived in the other and across the drive way my grandmother lived in a house that my grandfather and uncles had built for her. So she told me that when she smelled it the first time she thought that maybe my uncle was walking around outside and that he was smoking, and lighting the match, but when she went to go and check he was not around.

So one night I was laying in her bed watching a TV show about a week later, and all of a sudden the lamp on her night stand flickered out and the TV shut off. I was scared at first and covered my face with the covers, and then I remember getting this feeling that I shouldn’t be afraid, and that it was ok to take the cover away from my face. When I did I looked towards the TV and I saw my grandfather standing there. Now I had never met my grandfather cause he passed away when I was three years old, but from the stories that I have been told is that I had bad colic when I was a baby and that he was the only one that could hold me, and I wouldn’t cry.

When I saw my grandfather standing there calmness just covered me and I felt at peace. I stared at him for a minute and he stared back smiled and waved at me. I couldn’t believe it at first and it felt like a dream, but then he stared walking towards the bathroom in the room and motioned me to follow him. So I got up out of the bed and walked into the bathroom when I got in there he was standing by the toilet and pointing down at the sink. It looked like he was trying to say something to me, but I couldn’t make out what he was saying. Then he smiled at me again and the lights and TV came back on and he was gone.

I ran into the living room crying and told my grandmother what I had seen and she told me that it wasn’t something to joke about. I told her that I wasn’t joking and brought her to the room. Now I believe that when a ghost makes its presence to you it is either trying to warn you about something, letting you know that they are fine, or need your help. Well I told my grandmother that he had pointed down at the sink and I opened it and saw that the corner of the vinyl was up a little. I lifted it up and under it was a picture. The picture was of my grandmother and grandfather on the first date that they had gone on and my grandmother had been looking for it for years. So I was glad that my grandfather had chosen me to help him get the picture that he had hidden back to my grandmother.
