I was lying in bed one night watching television. I was startled by a very loud banging noise that sent my dog into hysterics. I had a teenage boy once try to break into my home and at first I thought that it was him. The banging noises continued.
I am a very strong willed person and proficient with weapons (guns, knives, tazers). Usually in a situation like this I would grab my knife or a gun and investigate the origin of the sound. For some reason, however, this particular time I began to cry and became so frightened that I was visibly shaking. I have a knife that I keep close to me at all times. I grabbed my knife and my phone and began to walk out of my room to investigate.
When I started towards my bedroom door I felt immediately like I could not breathe and immensely terrified. So, instead, I ducked as quickly as possible up against my closet door. I began to have a panic attack and immediately called 911.
This whole time my rather large bull mastiff is raising nine kinds of hell, so to speak. Thinking back now, any robber would have easily been scared off by him. He starts towards the bedroom door snarling, growling, and barking. When he steps just into the darkness of the hallway, he gets quiet and begins walking very quickly back into the room and lays behind me. At the same time I saw a dark shadow dart down the hallway.
I tell the 911 operator that I believe that someone is in my house and that I am having a panic attack and she dispatches an officer to my house. Luckily, an officer was patrolling the area and had just driven by my house. He lets me know that he is there and I make a mad dash through the house and out the front door. The officer had been patrolling the area for a few hours and hadn’t seen anyone. Also, all of my doors and windows were locked with no sign of anyone attempting to break in.
I cannot say for certain that it was paranormal, but I can say that I have never been that afraid. I have been in a few situations of having to defend my property against trespassers/robbers and I have never been afraid, especially to the point of cowering in my room crying and hyperventilating.
