Possible Haunting at Work

Posted on February 16, 2010

I’ve been working at my current part-time job to make some extra cash while in school since I was 16, I’m now 22 and about to graduate college. I work at a catering place that does pretty well and has been around since about the late 70s early 80s. After working there for about 3 years, I was told a story about a woman that was the wife of a man that had owned the building before the company I worked for had bought it. From what they told me her name was Margaret and apparently she found out that her husband was cheating on her and decided to hang herself where the offices used to be. That area is now converted into an attic/storage area where most of the Christmas decorations and newly ordered glasses are stored.

Ever since certain people working there have had weird occurrences. Now I’m pretty skeptical, and I’m basically 50-50 on whether or not ghosts exist. There’s a lot of evidence proving why they do or don’t exist and until I see one with my own eyes with no explanation, I’m on the fence.

During Christmas, they’ve said that lights that aren’t plugged in will blink on and off. I’ve heard that one maître d’ had a wedding reception he was working and was looking for the bride, he saw a woman in white up at the bar and walked from the back end of the room to the bar and when he got there she was gone as if she just vanished into thin air.

Another occurrence was when a manager, at the end of the night when we were closing up, went to walk upstairs to the new offices and heard an old time radio tuning in and out with some static. The thing is that there were no radios like that upstairs, or in the building for that matter, and that the only other people in the building were myself and three waitresses downstairs finishing up in one of the rooms where we hold parties.

But just last year, I experienced two happenings in the course of a month when I was working there at night. The first was when I was walking a cart through an empty room to go into the lobby and enter into another room since the room the party was in was incredibly crowded. The room I walked through had most of the lights turned off, except for about three or four, so I could see where I was going and if there was anyone else in the room. As I reached the center of the room I feel something tap on my shoulder a few times. I stopped dead in my tracks and turned around. Nobody was there and I didn’t hear anyone running or anything. I immediately bolted for the doors to the lobby with the cart because I was so freaked.

The second time was when I had to take some flowers one by one back into the beer cooler at the end of a party. The cooler is basically a huge fridge in a small hallway behind one of the bar areas, with walls that are too thick to hear anything outside and fans which do no not help much with hearing sounds either. I took my first flower pot into the cooler and walked all the way to the back. As I’m setting it down, I hear some woman’s voice scream “Kyle!” but it was almost in a whisper, yet I was still able to hear it. It was as if someone were trying to scream my name while they were hoarse. I froze for a second and tried to figure out where the sound came from, to see if any of my coworker’s were messing with me because I had told them about the event that happened to me a week or so prior. I could not find anyone, and everyone I was working with was in another room at the other end of the building. It took me a few minutes to regain myself and put the remaining nine or so flowers in the cooler.

Since then I have not experienced anything at my work, but I still get a funny feeling every now and again. I don’t know if there really is something there or if its all in my head, there could be logical explanations for each occurrence.
