My mother was murdered by a neighbor on May 30 1999. It was a devastating blow to our family as she was a single mother of four girls including myself. We ranged in age from 21 to 14. I have to start by saying it was like all the color and light had been sucked out of our lives that year.
As many people feel when they have lost someone close to them, it left a huge crater with many unanswered questions. One thought ran through my head every day. “what happened to you Mom and why?” I was not letting go easily and neither were my sisters. I was always saying I need to know and if there is anyway you could let me know, please do so through my dreams. This is so it wouldn’t frighten me. Finally I woke up in tears.
My mother did visit me and explained what happened. She brought me back to our old kitchen table where we would have coffee and discuss all our deepest secrets. She told me that she was trying to hold the door shut when he approached the bedroom. He then rapped his arm around the door like you see in horror movies and slashed her arms up and down until she no longer could hold the door. She fell backwards when the door flew open and landed on the bed with him on top of her and the knife buried itself deep in her chest. I remember how beautiful she looked and the feeling of her absence hit me so hard I didn’t want to wake up. I wanted to stay with her there for a while.
She did come back and visit a few more times with me and each time she came back she was more beautiful and much younger. Our last conversation was presented to me on a phone in my dream. She said that her visits were upsetting me and she would no longer do this again until I was ready for them. I understand her position as I am now a mother of two and would not want to put my children in this position either.
Its now 2010 and I have not heard back from her for 4 years. I hope she makes a visit soon. A mothers love may be gone but never forgotten, if even for a brief time I appreciate and cherish her memory.
