In April of 2009 my mother was diagnosed with Breast Cancer and in November she started an extensive cancer treatment of chemo and meds. My daughters and I moved in with my parents about 3 months prior to her diagnosis. Soon after my mother started her treatments, my youngest daughter who was only 22 months at the time, started to tell my mother and I that she could see a woman in the apartment across from us. Please keep in mind that the apartment was not being leased at the time so there was no one living there.
She described the woman as being dressed in black, with black hair and my daughter would always tell my mom that she was calling her telling her that she was coming for her and my mother. My daughter said that she could see her pacing in the apartment like she was waiting for something and that she could sometimes see her standing on the balcony across from our apartment. My daughter was very young so I thought nothing of it at the time until one day my oldest daughter told me that she saw a man one night when she woke up to use the potty. I blew this off thinking she was still too sleepy and may have seen my brother coming in from a late night of work.
My youngest daughter continued to tell us about the woman who she was now referring to as a “Witch” and my older daughter was beginning to wake up in the middle of the night telling me the man was trying to come inside and I would ask her where he was and she would always point to the large sliding glass door and tell me outside on the porch. I began to wonder if my children were having problems at daycare so I would have family members drop in unannounced and was relieved to know that nothing was wrong there.
So this continued until about May of 2010, my mother was preparing for a double mastectomy. My youngest daughter was still, on occasion, seeing the woman in black and my 3 yr old was beginning to tell me that the “man” was coming at almost every night and was waiting outside on the porch.
After my mom came home from the hospital and since she was still very sick and unable to attend church, she began receiving visits from 2 volunteers that were blessed by the church to give communion and say the rosary with my mother and our family every week. They left a bottle of holy water for my mother so that we could all pray and bless her each night before bed.
One particular evening I remember my mother was very sick and my daughter came into her room and said the “man” was standing outside on the porch waiting to come inside. This had never happened while we were all awake so my mother asked my daughter to show her. My 3 yr old held her grandma’s hand and led her to the living room where she proceeded to pull back the blinds and point to the porch telling my mother that the man was waiting for her outside and that he was going to come and get my mother and her soon. At that point my younger daughter told her that the “Witch” was pointing at her and telling her to go with her.
The very next day was a Sunday and my great grandma, (my mother’s mom), went to church she brought the priest home with her she did not know about what my children had been saying or seeing so this was not a planned visit. The priest came to our home and spoke with my mother and as he was leaving he spoke to my children and gave each of them a hug. He blessed them and told the higher powers to keep them safe.
That night, my daughter came into my mom’s room and told her that the mean “Witch” was mad and was going to leave. My other daughter also told her that the man was still waiting but he was also very mad. That night my mother and older daughter blessed our house. They took the holy water that was left for my mother and sprinkled it throughout the house and said prayers.
A week later, my mother asked both of my children if they had seen the “Witch” or the “Man” and both of my children said that they left because they were mad and could no longer be around our house.
It has been quite a few months now and neither of my daughters has said anything more about what they were seeing. My mother believes that my oldest daughter was seeing Death and that my youngest daughter was seeing some kind of demon or such. She believes they were there because they knew my mother was sick and they wanted her soul and they knew my children could see them.
