How Many Ghosts are There?

Posted on September 12, 2010

When I was around six years old my mother and step dad had a house built in a new neighborhood for us. It had three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room, family room, kitchen, office, and unfinished basement. And it’s the basement that most of my experiences happened.

The earliest encounter that I remember (I was about nine) is when I was sitting in the basement waiting for my two sisters to come down so we could play. I had been sitting on our white couch – that happened to be in the middle of the basement – holding one of my little pony toys when I felt a hand touch my shoulder and a presence lean over as if to see what I had been holding. I recall how it hadn’t actually scared me until I realized I supposedly was alone down here… Lets just say the toy broke when I threw it in my dash to get upstairs.

The next thing that happened was around the time my mom decided the laundry had to be in the basement (I think she just didn’t want me to wear clean clothes). I was probably around ten and I had to descend down those stairs so I could get my outfit for the day. I was sorting through my section when I heard a little giggle behind me the sound of someone sighing. I just froze, wondering if I had actually heard what I thought I heard when the sigh came louder and some of my younger sister’s clothes were pushed to the floor. I did an about face and high tailed my bottom right up those stairs. My mom later got mad at me for making a mess in the laundry room which I refused to go clean up by myself (I never told her why the clothes were on the floor).

A couple of years went by with no problems (of course I tried to avoid going into the basement by myself) when finally something else happened. I had just turned fourteen when I woke up to the sound of someone running around in the hall. I automatically thought that my little sister was being a freak or something so I rolled over to get off my bed when I found her (Jenny) sleeping soundly next to me in my bed (when she had nightmares she’d come into my room to sleep). By then I was starting to get scared because the only ones living in my house at that time were me, Jen, my mom, and step dad (I highly doubted my step dad or mom were prancing around the hall). Still, I decided to get up to investigate because the noise still hadn’t stopped. I remember I grabbed the door knob and threw the door open to find what looked like a naked blond girl around the age of six or seven standing in the middle of the hall staring at me. She was kinda hard to see because the hall was dark but she was definitely there and I definitely slammed my door shut and hopped back into my bed.

About a month after that, I woke up to find the same girl standing next to my bed staring at me with a smile. I must have been really tired though, for all I did was roll over and go back to bed.

Two years after that, I woke up in my bed on my back. At first I couldn’t figure out what had woken me until I saw the outline of the man standing in my door way. It was black and solid but didn’t really have any features. Still, I could tell that it was watching me and I instantly became very afraid. I squeezed my eyes closed and started whispering, “go away, go away, go away…” And when I opened my eyes, he was gone. Later that day, I told my mom what had happened and she told me that I shouldn’t be afraid of things I didn’t understand (yeah right lady).

The last experience that I had in that house actually happened about a month ago (I’m currently nineteen). I was lying in bed when I heard something shuffle behind me; I usually sleep with my back to my door. I turned around and saw a shadow move across my room to the foot of my bed, where, it stayed for a moment before fading away. I just turned on my light and went back to bed.

There have been other accounts in my house that my friends/family have told me about. Like, for example, my best friend was staying over one night and we were in the living room watching the TV when she heard someone walk behind the couch and go into the hall (I was dosing at the time). She thought nothing of it until she heard it stomp back to behind the couch then down to the basement.. She woke me up and we fled to my room.

Another event that I was told about was from my step father. He said he had walked into the bedroom he shared with my mom in the dark and had heard someone rustling around in a drawer in the attached bathroom. He walked over to see what was going on when he heard the drawer slam shut. When he turned on the light, no one was there.

I honestly have no idea what’s going on or how many beings are in my house but I’ve almost gotten used to it (I mean, I’ve lived in my house for thirteen years). I just hope that nothing bad comes out of all of this.

I didn’t tell you all my stories – just the most interesting ones – because there are A LOT of them. But I can add that walking into my basement ALWAYS feels eerie… and I’m not the only person who thinks that.. Well thank you for reading. I hope my stories gave you the chills.
