Haunted In Hoosierville

Posted on May 22, 2009

When I was fifteen, we moved into an older house near the river. At the time, we all were very excited to be moving, it was a bigger house and we would all have our own bedrooms and my grandfather was going to be living with us too.

We moved in the summer of 2002, and right away I started noticing things. The occurrences were small at first, things we chalked up to the house being old and having faulty wiring or bad plumbing. The radio would turn off or up on its own, the light bulbs would blow, the television would turn on by itself and auto program to a strange  station, we would hear the floorboards groaning upstairs, the beds would tremble. Just basic things that happen in every old house,  right? That’s what I told myself, anyway. Then the things started to get worse.

The basement always creeped me out. Honestly, it creeped everyone out but my Dad and Grandpa said it was fine down there. When we moved in,  we had two cats. One of the two had kittens and we put her in the basement so she could give birth. She had her kittens down there and ended up dragging the kittens up a vent and into the ceiling of the living room.  Not long after she had them, she and the other cat ran away.

We could never keep animals in this house. Six cats ran away. Three dogs ran off and two died. They hated the basement and one even broke a window and got away. It was like the sensed the house was bad.

My little sister’s bedroom was right off of mine, you had to walk through my room to get to her bedroom. It was small and didn’t have a window. It was always really dark and hot in there. She was sleeping one night and came running out of her room, totally freaked out and telling me something had pulled her blankets off her. I thought she was being an idiot and told her to go back to bed. But after that night, she never would sleep in her room again. My cousin was staying with us, and we let him sleep in her room and she was sleeping in the bed with me. That night he had a horrible nightmare and woke us up screaming he couldn’t breathe. He jumped up and went to the bathroom, when we asked him about it when he came back, he had no idea what we were talking about. That was about the time my sister and I started to sleep downstairs.

My room was the room right at the top of the stairs. I loved it as soon as I saw it, because I finally would have my own room again. I had a big bed all to myself and could listen to what music I wanted. It was great. Or so I thought. At night I would get scared for no reason. I would hear what sounded like rustling papers in my little sister’s room. I would hear her dresser drawers opening on their own. I tried to keep my radio on at night so I wouldn’t hear things but I would wake up every morning and it would be turned off. At first, I thought it was my mom or dad, mad at me for wasting electric, turning it off. Then is started turning off when I was awake. My little sister’s light would come on by itself. I would feel my bed shaking at night. I always would sleep with my feet hanging off the bed, and out of the blankets.

One night I woke up, I had the sensation that I was being jerked. I had the experience before and wasn’t that freaked, thinking I must have dreamed that I was falling or tripping. I then realized that I was laying half way down my mattress and I had indeed, been jerked down to the middle of my bed. I tried to sleep with my feet under the blankets after that, but it still happened frequently. One night I was in bed trying to fall asleep, I saw a motion outside my window. I turned my head quickly to see what looked like a man’s shadow through the mini blinds. Except this man, had what looked like very large, bat wings. I had only saw it for a second, then it’s wings closed and it dropped out of sight. It scared the daylights out of me. I didn’t tell anyone when this stuff was happening, because I thought they would laugh at me for being such a chicken.
