Haunted House on Mahe Island

Posted on August 25, 2009

I was 12 when my mum announced that we were moving. see I live in the Indian Ocean on a small island of Seychelles called Mahe. We were moving from a residential area where all my friends and close cousins lived to go live in a bigger house on the mountains because my baby brother had just been born and we needed a bigger place.

The first time I visited our new house it gave me the creeps, I told my mum how much I hated it but she only taught I was looking for a reason to complain about her moving me. I tried coping with the place when we moved in I really did. When I started Hearing noises and screams every single night I freaked out. I didn’t tell my mum anything because she already had enough on her plate and I told myself that it was just my mind playing tricks on me. I stayed up late one night and couldn’t sleep, my room was on the first floor of the house and the rest of my family’s rooms were on the second so I sat down in the living room and watched movie after movie. Around midnight I started hearing noises on the roof of the house and the walking took place mostly where I was. I put the TV on mute and listened closely, the noise kept on going but then stopped for a while. I heard talking and freaky noises in my room. I started feeling chills go down my spine. I put the TV off mute and continued watching TV and ignored the noises. Around 1 am the noises just got worse. So I took a deep breath and turned the TV off and walked to my room so fast hoping to get on my bed where I could hide.

The next morning I told my mum about it and told her that it really scared me and I would like to even share my brother’s room, but I didn’t want to sleep alone, but my brother didn’t agree. So I stayed in my room and kept hearing all sorts of strange noises, most nights there would be footsteps over the rooftop of my room. One specific night I was reading on my bed when I heard a heavy breathing (I thought it was a dog) so I took a peek outside, I saw a shadow of a man pass by really fast(I mean fast, the shadow went over the wall that separated our house and the road. Dogs on the street barked like crazy and I got more freaked out than I ever was, I was convinced the house was bewitched or something. I would sometimes wake up with scratches all over me especially my chest. I kept seeing a dark man all the time, once almost clearly outside my house he would always be looking at me like he was looking through my soul.

I asked around for any info about the house and found out that there was an old man who died in the house years ago(but the man I kept seeing wasn’t old at all) and that the guy Mr. Lucas who sold my mum the house rented what is currently my room to a middle aged man who did witchcraft, apparently the owner didn’t know about it until he caught him and eventually threw him out. I found out that my neighbor also participated in some voodoo stuff whereby she lied in my current bath and he spelled out stuff.

My mum also asked my neighbor’s brother who she became really good friends with about it and he confirmed it. She didn’t pay attention to it. Although all that changed when one night, I had a really bad cold and I was coughing like crazy, my mum came to check up on me and she went in the kitchen to fetch the cough medicine for me. When she was done with giving me the medicine she placed it back in the kitchen and turned off the light, and as she did that there was a loud noise at the kitchen door as if someone was trying to open the door by force. The brutal noise went on and got more violent. My mum seemed shocked and stunned because all she did was curl up next to me in fright. The next morning she got my religious aunt to get holly water from church to pure it around the house. We were all scared and I slept in my brother’s room since for a while.

Now I’m 15 and I still live in the same house and sleep in the same room,I still hear the same noises every night. I still get the same scratches every night and all of my cousins who sleepover always say they could swear they had hear noises during the night but I’ve gotten use to it now, the only thing I do differently at night is pray and hope it doesn’t get worse. My story doesn’t really have an ending because it still goes on as we speak. Hope you like reading about my messed up life.
