Grandfather and Other Spirits in Our Home

Posted on July 9, 2010

On November 2, 2008, my grandfather Raymond Lozano passed away. He was an Air Force veteran as well as a grandfather of eight. I am the oldest. I am 17 years old. My family has always believed in the paranormal. We have several spirits that reside in our home, but fear not, they are our deceased family members and pets. My youngest sister, EmiLea can see them and communicate with them. Let me go back to the year 2008.

I was 15 and my Grandpa has been diagnosed with Lewy Bodies. It mimics Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease. Grandpa had been getting hard to handle, because he was falling down all the time. So mom and grandma put him in a nursing home. I was at school when he was taken there. Everything seemed fine until the nurses stopped giving him his medicine. Papa fell ill and was taken to the hospital. Mom was notified and instead of going to school the next day, we went to the hospital to see him. He was in pain. I went in to see him and he was starting to forget and talk about people that we couldn’t see and that they were coming to take him to his mother. He had a hard time remembering me, but he knew. It hurt me because he was like my father since my dad left me when I was a baby to be raised by mom and my grandparents. Mom was in college and memaw and papa were left to raise me. I was very close to him.

We left and the following day he was well enough to go back to the nursing home. It didn’t last though. He was there three days when something drastic happened. It was the last night of Halloween Horror Nights. My parents were working and it was five in the morning. Mom and dad had just gotten home when she got a call. I was asleep, but I could feel something was wrong with my grandfather. My sisters could too. We had all dreamed about him.

I awoke to the sounds of my mom crying downstairs. I sat next to her and asked her what was wrong. She didn’t have to tell me because I already knew. She turned to me and said that my grandfather had passed away. His funeral was the following Tuesday. We went to see him and I couldn’t believe he was gone. He was pale and cold. He always woke up at five am, that’s why the nurses called so early.

Immediately after his funeral, things began to happen. I had a dead rose in the car, I picked it up and it turned red again. Weeks later while watching TV with my family it was quiet. The TV was muted and no one was talking when I heard his nickname for me. Erra. He shortened my name to Erra. I felt like crying. We often smell the smell of fish and he loved to go fishing.

Months after I heard his name for me, my father and brother were outside working on our garden. Grandpa was very specific about the garden. My brother and father looked up and I heard it too. Our front door opened and shut. We heard the sound, but the door was closed the whole time. Then we all heard my grandfather’s voice say “You’re not doing that right”. They freaked me out, but I smiled. My sisters have both seen him and so has my mother. He is seen wearing shorts and no shirt and his bedroom slippers. We hear him and smell him. So we know he’s here with us still.

We have other spirits. Bonnie was my grandma’s childhood pet cat. She hated dogs and we have a dog. She sits in corners and scratches at his face or sits on grandmas bed and watches our dog pace. We have Bo. He is a dog that has been my dog from the day I was born. He was blind and deaf and can be found running up and down stairs, guarding the front door, or in Jack’s dog bed. We also have my great grandma and great grandpa. We smell cigarette smoke and that’s what grandma great smelled like and grandpa great smelled like car oil. They are seen tucking in The two youngest children. Austin and EmiLea. Grandpa great messes with our electronics as a way of playing with us. We have his mom and she is usually in the kitchen cooking. My grandmother once smell a ham, green beans, potatoes, fresh baked rolls and cherry pie being cooked and no one was in the kitchen. Grandma and I were watching a movie. These are our spirits and we love them. Grandpa is also seen in my room which is where I am typing this from. He is always with me.
