I admit that I am one of those people who are totally freaked out by anything to do with ghosts, yet I find my self curious. I live in the north of England and my best mate Emma lives a few miles from me up on the moors. Like my house her house is very old, yet small. I remember it was the holidays and I was going up to her house.
Emma is a ghost enthusiast and has many books and weird gadgets to do with them. And she never hesitates to show me them. As I got to her house we went to sit in the kitchen, we were chatting normally when her older brother Richard entered the kitchen, he seemed to be acting really odd and jumpy. He smiled at us and told us he was leaving to go to work.
‘ See you later, be careful.’ he said and he looked so weary it shocked me. When I heard the front door shut I turned to Emma. ‘what was that about?’ I asked. She sighed and turned to me. ‘ Don’t get freaked out ok?’ I laughed and waited, she was freaking me out already.
She then launched into this huge long story about the ‘other night’ when Richard was cooking alone in the kitchen. Emma and her mum were in the other room, when the heard the pot smash and Richard almost ran into the room. Emma said he was really pale and when they asked him what was wrong he claimed he had to get out of the house and was never entering the kitchen again. That was when he told them he had seen a ghost of what he thought was a little girl. After announcing this he left the house got in his car and stayed the next two days at a friends house. When Emma finished telling the story I was scared. Emma then insisted we went to her room, she said she had just got something that I had to see.
It was a ghost detection device. I said it wouldn’t work but she ignored me. There were four red little ball tings with a detector thing on which she positioned in her room, the hallway, the kitchen and bathroom. She also had a board that showed the four devices and when anything passes them, even spirits they light up. I walked past one and as promised it lit up. Emma seemed impressed so we sat in the sitting room and waited, we got bored pretty quickly and switched a film on. After about an hour into the film I threw a glance at the board. One of the devices was lit up, I nudged Emma and she picked it up and paused the film. Before I realized they were all lit up and flashing. I was scared and I swore under my breath.
Eventually when we had settled down we went back to the film. When it finished I reluctantly went upstairs to the bathroom. I noticed a noise coming from Emma’s younger brothers room. I opened his door and went in. Michael was standing in the corner.
‘Michael.’ I said. He ignored me. I picked up a ball that lay on the floor next to me and threw it at him. He ignored me again. ‘ Well its clear I’m not wanted.’ I joked and I left the room laughing. I knew him well and was slightly surprised he hadn’t come down stairs to talk to us.
As I got back into the sitting room I plonked myself on the sofa next to Emma and laughed. ‘I think it was Michael that set the devices off.’ I picked up the board and shook my head for being so scared. Emma was looking at me.
‘Michael?’ She asked. ‘Yeah he’s in his room.’ I said. She was still looking at me. ‘Did he speak?’ She asked. I shook my head and feeling slightly confused. ‘Why?’ I asked. ‘ Elle, we are the only ones in the house. Michaels out with my mum.’ That is the sentence I remember the most and I have never felt so scared. I ran outside, after that but Emma ran upstairs. When she came back out she was shaking. ‘Nobody there.’
