I’ve always believed in and been fascinated with the paranormal and ghosts. I know they are out there and around us all the time. What I don’t know is if what I see are real encounters or just the trick of the eye. I’ve had several so called experiences through-out the years.
I remember about 5 years ago now I was living with my parents again and my youngest sister. It was a small quaint lake front house with two bedrooms a bathroom and a laundry room / bathroom adjoined to the master bedroom. The kitchen and living room were a wide open attached space leading to the sliding glass doors at the back of the house leading to the back yard down to the lake. I shared the master bedroom with my sister and we had acquired bunk beds. She slept on the top I slept on the bottom.
One day we were in our room and both sitting on my bunk just talking and laughing being sisters. The door to the laundry room / bathroom was always open and I was lounging on my bed facing it. I was telling my sister something and stopped mid sentence because out of sort of the corner of my eye… meaning it wasn’t exactly the corner of my eye but I wasn’t looking into the next room either… I see this black shadow move across the door way. Now from what I remember is this black shadow looked like it was wearing a hat. I told my sister about what I had just seen or thought I saw and of course I freaked her out too.
Now I’ve had other experiences with black shadows as well. Different place entirely and it was just 2 years ago… There was a tragedy in the family not long before that happened. My granddaughter was in the living room with me she was on the floor by one of the love seats and I look at her and I see this dark shadow pass through the door (which is always closed so my cat wont be full in the house) going into the laundry room to the porches.
About a week to two weeks ago I had just finished brushing my teeth and getting into bed taking my hair tie out I could have sworn I saw like a glowing white tail end of a white dress pass by the bedroom door and head to the bathroom. It took me a second to process what I saw and when I looked of course nothing was there.
There have been times when I’ve been scared at my house and always feel like I’m being watched. I’ve learned not to fear them for most of the time they will not hurt me.

as you, i did question what i’ve seen. but i did see them. that’s probably all you will do is see them leaving or pass by. i can’t wait for summer, the days are brighter and so are the phantoms that pass thru here. your not imagining things. make a journal of what you see and when. try researching the history of the home. it’s pretty easy to find people that lived there. i am always learning something new from our house abstract. good luck!
the reason movement in the ” corner of your eye ” or off to the side a bit looks black is because the eye has most of its colour cones at the front ( forward vision ) and not so many at the sides – so ” things” seen off to the side look black because the black cones are predominantly in that part of the eye ( like an old black and white TV ) – ( it doesn’t mean they really are black – but they certainly look that way! )
I know, I’ve seen ‘ black shadows’ as well. The main thing to remember is be they ‘ tricks of light’ or actually an enitiy moving around, they’re scooting off and around your home in a way indicating that they really don’t want to be seen anyway. So they’re not confrontational. I’ve seen the black shadow thing and the bright shot of light that seems to move rather quickly and almost be gone before you realise you’re seeing it. From my experience, as it stands, its either a light phenomena in or outside of the eye or a presence that isnt really that interested in you but just seems to be going about its own business. If it wants you to know its there, like ‘ hey look at me!’ – you’d know it. I wouldnt worry too much about it at the moment. But let us know if it starts to be a bit more obvious. I have a similar thing in my home and I call him ” Kevin ” and he doesnt do anything but like yours walk around and stand in various places – he doesn’t ” do ” anything and we’re not frightened of him. We just know he’s there and ignore him for the most part!
There is also a paranormal phenomenon that has many similarities to the experiences that you describe. It is known, or perhaps I should say, they are known as shadow people.
According to my research they are generally seen in an individual’s peripheral vision, and some of them have been reported to be seen wearing a “fedora style hat like a 1930s-era gangster or a cloak.” They are human-like in form and their movements tend to be sporadic, which is one reason they are said to be seen via peripheral vision.
Now please keep in mind I’m not saying that you for certain are experiencing this phenomenon, I’m simply saying that this could be one explanation for it.
I agree with Jennifer. I have experienced this phenomenon many, many times. It didn’t seem to matter where I lived either. Later in life I tried better to understand this. By sheer happenstance I have been lucky enough to befriend a woman that has the ability to talk to the departed. She explains that these are almost always people you know that are just looking in on you. However, as in my case in the last home I lived in, sometimes it was people I didn’t know, but they just liked it there and meant no harm. In that house I was always aware someone was watching me in the basement. After talking to my friend I am completely comfortable with it. Whenever I got that feeling again I would simply say “Hi” and go about my business. If it makes you really uncomfortable simply ask whoever it is to kindly leave you alone, and most likely they will.
