Dada Ji and Me in the Jungle

Posted on January 3, 2012

I dont know that what was happened with me on that night which was really a horrible night to me. It was the time of November 1999. I was returning from my cousin brothers wedding. My home lies on the way to my cousin brothers home. It was approx. 80 Kms before from my brothers home. On returning from my brothers in laws I decided on get down on the way to my home. Actually I have joined the wedding from my college – I reached to the wedding venue from my college since I was not gone to my home for a long time during my classes and teaching profession so I decided to go first to the wedding venue and later when people will go back I will get down on the way to my home to meet my mother so I got down on the way.

From that point from where I go down my village was approx. 3 kms far away in the height (I belong to Uttrakhand which is really a state of villages). It was 3 Kms trekking to my village. There was only a house at the road. I asked them for a torch but they dont have. It was dense dark, in hilly areas it is quite dark at 9 PM it seems as mid night. I wrapped a wetted cloth around a wooden stick to make a Mashaal with kerosene (Flammable liquid) and started to climb. After 05 minutes I saw a man coming behind me I recognized him he was my grandpa in relation (he was from my village – but no my real grandpa). I said “grandpa what are you doing here in this night its about 9.30 PM.” He was drunk, he replied with loos voice that I had a work here but I got late so going to home now-Lets go together I thought it is good for me since I was alone.

We continued to climbing. On the way he was asking about my education and my profession. He was a nice old man he was loved me a lot as a grand son. We were continuing to climbing and going. After 2 hours around at 11.30 P.M. in the night we reached at the entrance point of the village. At that time grandpa ask me to have loo (toilet) and gone for it at the side of the way. I was waiting for him to come back to continue. It was around 10 minutes he did not come back. I was worried that he is drunk, may be fell down into the valley since it was steady hilly ways but I searched he was not there. I thought he is drunk and may be gone to the village from other way – I called him but no response. Lastly I decided to go ahead to my house. Finally I reached at my home. My mother was sleeping; they were surprised that I reached at mid nigh and coming from the jungles way.

My mother was worried about me she rebuked me that I should not come alone through the jungle and hilly ways it is so dangerous. I told her mom I was not alone Dada ji (grandpa – father of one of my friend in my village) was with me, we were coming together for last 02 hours but I dont know where Dada ji gone he was drunk.

My mom was shocked to listen when I told her the story of Dada ji and mine. She cried and was shivering. I saw there were the tears in her eyes. I asked her mom why are you crying and weeping. She replied with tearful eyes that – Dada ji was dead for last 13 days and today his Terwahi (13th day of the death). I was shocked and full of fear – I squealed loudly and got stuck on the floor. That grandpa was dead 13 days back and he was coming with me in the night – It means I was walking with the ghost-I was not believed. Oh my God.. this was shaken and impressed in my mind today itself. But I dont know whether I was walking with a ghost or with my well-wisher who wanted my lifes security during that night. My mother told that he was securing me through the night and that dense jungle.

I pray to my God if it is true God bless the peace to that holy soul.
