This happened when I was in fifth grade. We’d just moved from Missouri to Kansas and rented a house. My sister and I are very strong believers of the paranormal, but our parents (especially my mother), aren’t so easily persuaded.
I’d just gotten home from school (maybe ten minutes after I’d gotten home) and I was talking to my mother in the kitchen while she was getting food for me. Just as I finished up a sentence, we both heard a very distinct, human gasp. My eyes went wide and we both stared at each other for a long moment. Finally, I got up and searched the house for an answer to the strange sound.
At the time, my sister was out with her friends and my father was at work. None of our animals (a cat, dog, two parakeets, two hamsters, two guinea pigs, two hermit crabs and lots of fish) couldn’t have made the noise. Our front door had a sweep at the bottom of it, so I inspected that first. However, it was locked, and when I called for my sister and father, no one answered. Next, I checked the couch to see if any papers had fallen to the floor and made a sound. Nothing. After checking the whole rest of the house, I sat back down with my mom and, to this day, we have no explanation for what we heard.
A year later, we moved across the street to another duplex. This is where I lived until just recently. Many things have happened to me there, such as seeing shadow figures, feeling watched, hearing noises and voices, sudden cold spots, and much more. My fan would go from low to high while I slept (this happened to my sister’s boyfriend as well when he moved in and took my room), I’d heard a girls voice and a giggle while I was home alone, my sister’s and I’s phone conversations got interrupted by strange gurgled and fuzzy voices and noises. My mother (the huge skeptic) even saw a man walk around our house, towards our backyard (which was fenced and locked) and when she followed him, he was no where to be seen.
So, maybe it’s just our family being overly imaginative, but I think there’s something really strange going on in those houses. It makes me wonder if every house in that neighborhood is haunted.
