My cousin RuthAnne was killed by a drunk driver just outside Pinkneyville, Illinois in 1969. She and her brother Frank were returning from town that day when the drunk driver hit RuthAnne, throwing her from the bike. They say she died instantly. She was only 11.
We moved to the Chicago area in 1971 and since we lived about 8 hours away from my Dad’s family in Southern Illinois, we used to spend a lot of weekends there. This story happened during two consecutive visits to my grandparents’ house.
RuthAnne and Frank used to stay at the grandparents house and the accident happened right down the street from it. One night my Mom heard a child asking for it’s “Mommy”. Thinking it was one of her 5 children, she got out of bed to check on us. We were all asleep. She went back to bed.
The next time we visited my Mom woke up in the middle of the night and saw a young girl standing in the living room (The bedroom looked right out into it). She realized it was my dead cousin RuthAnne and pulled the covers over her head. When she peeked out again RuthAnne was still standing there. She had her arms outstretched and was staring down at my little sister who was fast asleep on the couch. My Mom kept looking at her as she slowly evaporated into a mist and went out the living room wall.
The next day she told my Dad that we were leaving because she wasn’t going to spend another night in that house. When my Dad asked her why she said she saw RuthAnne during the night. My Grandparents didn’t say a thing-they just smiled. My sister told me a few years back that she never believed our Mom until she started going to visit the family and heard stories from them.
My Mom never did sleep in that house again. Neither did RuthAnne’s parents after their visit to put a headstone on her grave.

Sue, that is so sad, she just seems to want comfort. Im sure she must have died instantly, and didnt realize that she was gone. that was a very good story, and i hope you are all well,,, God Bless, ktm
poor kid. she never knew what hit her. i hope that guy spent time in jail.. did you ever hear about her appearing again? i just hope she finally crossed over.

Very interesting story,I think that RuthAnne was still hanged in the same place, I read a research about paranormal activity discussing the ghosts phenomenon especially those result from intensive incidents,it causes a very high power & increasing in the electromagnetic fields in the place,this phenomenon repeats regularly for a specific time till the all energy end,it was noticed that the ghost still appears in the same place of incident until its high energy is finished.At another opinion that these spirits still hang in the place thinking that they did not die ,after that it pssed away to the other world.

i would like to say sumthing.i thikn ruthanne needs help to go to the other nside.maybe u can spend the night there again and get help from some people who does paranormal things, like contacting spirits.maybe ruthanne wantsd justice.
