An Irish Haunting

Posted on April 7, 2010

I remember, the night my life changed. I will never forget the horror. I will never be the same again. I will never be alone, again.

Five years ago, my friends and I where backpacking around Ireland in our gap year before uni. One night we had gone really off track and were completely lost, it was getting dark and we decided we needed to find shelter for the night. We had been walking through a forest for a few hours, it was pitch black and cold, four girls, we were terrified. Then the trees opened up into a small clearing, at the bottom there was a lake and old boathouse. It was falling apart, but it was shelter. We needed shelter.

I was in front, Lucy was scared and kept asking to call for help. But who could we have called? We had no reception. We approached the boatshed, there was no door, so we entered. It was dark and smelt all musky, I can remember it so well, my torch was bright and I could see what was around us, old bits of furniture covered in sheets. We pulled them off gingerly and settled in the chairs. Kate and Mary reached for their sleeping bags and were asleep instantly. But me and Lucy couldn’t although we were tired. Lucy began to search around and pulled an old board out of the cupboard. Lucy placed the board in front of me. I knew what she wanted, I said, ‘This place already creeps me out.’ She said, ‘come on lets just do the Ouija board. What are you scared? There not even that real,’ she laughed. I felt uneasy, but Lucy always had a way of convincing me. I sighed and agreed.

She took a Euro from her pocket and placed it on the board, she shredded paper and wrote the alphabet on and placed in a circle on the board. ‘you control it Terry’ Lucy whispered ‘please don’t Lucy, I don’t want to’ ‘ just do it Terry’ ‘ok’ I gingerly placed my finger on the Euro, its difficult to explain how it felt, the room went cold, really cold. Lucy’s hair started to move in a breeze neither of us felt. She smiled. She was excited by it. I felt horrible. I should of stopped. ‘is anyone here? please try and tell us, give us a sign or something’ I whispered neither of us breathed anticipating something, then a crash and a scream, we jumped up Mary was sitting up rubbing her head. ‘a book has just whacked me in the face’ she sobbed, we rushed over to see if she was ok, her forehead was bleeding and a large leather-bound book was lying to her side. ‘I guess this our answer’ Lucy whispered. She looked scared. ‘this is stopping now’ I said ‘you cant, now we have summoned the spirit it cant go away until we request it to and even then, it may never leave us’ ‘great’ I whispered.

I turned on Lucy ‘This was your stupid idea now look what’s happened!’ Before she could reply, Kate was on her feet and shoving her things into her bag. ‘I’m going…now!’ She ran out the door and we all followed as a huge crash sounded behind us. The table that we had rested the board on was overturned. I gasped and looked at Lucy. The Euro was resting on the letter T, as in Terry. I froze and the others screamed running into the woods. I screamed, ‘come back, its not safe being on your own’ and it wasn’t safe. I felt a breeze through my hair, the floor of the boatshed creaked and groaned, I felt tears of fear well in my eyes, it was most horrible feeling I have ever felt, I was terrified, then I heard it. ‘terry’ it was so clear, that eerie whisper. ‘Go away’ I whispered, ‘please’ this is no word of a lie, I felt a hand on my arm, a cold almost non existent hand. I screamed ‘Get off’ I fell to the floor and then there was silence. I lay there sobbing, then when I looked up I saw someone walk past the window. I got up, ‘Lucy? Mary? Kate?’ no answer, I walked slowly around the boatshed, then a twig snapped. It was behind me. When I turned around no one was there, then I heard it. ‘terry’. I fainted.

Kate found me and woke me up. The girls had slept in a sheltered part of the wood. I couldn’t speak, I was so scared. I have never been the same again. The spirit that I brought to me, has attached itself to me, its always with me, in the night I hear ‘terry’ whispered. I never went to uni, I live with my parents. This night ruined my life. Not all spirits are good, some are evil. They torment. They ruin lives.

  2. Miriah says:

Im sorry that this is happening to you. I wish I had some great advice to help you out but unfourtanetly I dont. Maybe if you tried praying it would help, just a suggestion. Your story is a perfect example of why we shouldnt play with ouija boards though. I cant belive your friends just took off and left you there. That is really messed up so many bad things could have come from that. I hope that things get better for you. Good luck

  6. Enalya says:

I will not go near a Ouija board. They were promoted as a childs toy, but theyre extremely dangerous. Terry, go and see a psychic or a priest. They will be able to help you get rid of this spirit thats haunting you, or at least find out what it wants…

  7. Pat says:

I am so so sorry to hear of your misfortune…..I would get a blessing and try to rid the spirit from you…it wasn’t even your idea to play the game…YOU NEED TO GET A BLESSING…. plesae let us know how you are doing….
