The Philadelphia Experiment

Posted on August 9, 2009

This entry was submitted as a comment to Vanishing in the 4th Dimension, it was so interesting that I have decided to post it as its own seperate article:

This reminds me of a TV documentary show I watched many years ago. About a government experiment done towards the end of WWII called the “Philadelphia experiment”. The experiment was to find some way to camouflage large naval ships by using magnetism which was suppose to make the ships seem to become invisible.

So the story goes. The ship they conducted this test upon was manned by a small crew of scientist and sailors, and a few tethered animals. And there was an ample contingent of support and observation ships with some top brass on board those to document what happens. When the switch was thrown, a loud hum seemed to emanate around the test ship and a green mist filled the air around it as well. The noise got louder and louder until it became an ear splitting screech, at which time, with amazement and jubilation, the test ship seemed to vanish into thin air. The jubilation soon turned to horror when the testers stopped the magnetic machinery, and the test ship did not reappear and the noise and mist continued for several minutes. To their relief the machinery and noise finally started to wind down, and the green mist disappeared, and the ship reappeared, looking just as it did before the test.

However, as the top brass and scientists boarded the test ship, they saw that something had happened to the people and animals aboard. Some of the personnel aboard the ship were violently ill, and others, were stuck in the ship. Literally. They were caught inside the bulkheads. One half of their bodies were on one side, and the other, on the other side of the bulkhead. This fate was also the same for the animals.

Those who survived the ordeal could not explain what happened to them without becoming ill and fainting or other psychotic issues. And for some time afterward men (other sailors) who were with survivor test subjects would notice the person to become ill and seem to flicker in and out of existence and some would not return.

I don’t know if this was real, or another urban ledged. The above reminded me of this story. And got me thinking that may be there has (or not) been a break through. Though and accidental one, a break through to travel to these other dimensions.

What do you other guys think? Has any one else heard of this, or knows someone this happened to? Of course the government (U.S.) may not confirm or deny such an incident.

I remember watching a document like that!

  2. Elden says:

I for one beleive it happened .. And I beleive they have perfected it.

  3. Sai Chan says:

It’s very interesting to see that superstition is promoted here.
It’s perfectly alright to see that this is a comment. But a story?
The TV shows, even nowadays in renowned channels are producing controversial standpoints of being greedy, morals withheld into deceiving the public.
Recently this kind of test LHC, just a tiny particle size less than an atom has to build 27 km tunnel to perform the test.
    If a ship,…………

      Sai Chan,

We get a lot of different types of stories sent in to us and we try to publish all of them. This article is here for discussion and for provoking thought.

  4. Ash says:

its kinda kool…but freaky. iam really intrested in that kind a stuff i was researching on barmuda triangle for couple years but i dont no much about 4rth diamantion but i have heard of it…

  5. Robbie Scifres says:

I have read almost everything on the Bermuda Triangle and try to keep up with anything new. I have also read up on other areas of the world where similiar or same kinds of things happen. I have also seen the documentary on “The Philadelphia Experiment” and read one thing about it. All of these things seem to be related in my opinion. It is not impossible that from time to time there are weak spots in the “fabric” or even tears between dementions. There are those that believe there are many dementions(11??) AND THAT HEAVEN IS POSSIBLY IN THE 4TH LEVEL!!! I would not doubt this for a minute. Wasn’t it Shakespeare who wrote “There are more things in heaven and earth than are in your experince Horatio” or something to that order. Not everything can be explained in a cut and dried scientific manner. Many things that people said were impossible 200, 400, 500 years ago have come to pass. What would our ancestors say if they could see us now? What do you think Sam Houston would say about NASA? What would Ben Franklin say about laser surgery on a persons eyes so that they don’t need glasses? I could go on – but I won’t – - all I have to say about it is keep an open mind and remember what Shakespeare wrote. Robbie

  6. Diane says:

It did happen…and it’s all true, and then some. The info can be found online with some digging.

  7. Robbie Scifres says:

sai Chan – sometimes things that appear complicated when they really aren’t. Remember Shakespeare.

Diane – I just started reading some of the info on the web. I believe it’s true. I was in the Army and I know how simple things like discipline are manipulated to come out the way they want them to. If they would manipulate who is punished and takes the “fall” for embarrasing situations (the Marine General Oliver (what’s his last name?)) and they can frame an E-4 and discredit her because she knows enough to blow the lid off of sexual harrassment incidents, then they can manipulate and will manipulate anything and everything to make it come out the way they want it to. They think they are protecting the American Public – do we really need protecting?

  8. Eileen says:

I believe Einstein was working on it as well…..quantum physics.

  9. Kuva says:

What the heck? wow. I feel sorry for them people who went thru that! My guess is it was just a tragic failed experiment, but may be somehow linked with the random vanishings. Hey what if they maybe just became invisible? o.o weird but then they’d write stuff down or whatever right? hmmmm boggles the mind, it does…

  10. Eileen says:

If you read “The Ancient Secret of the Flower of Life” he makes reference to it, and the kind of energy fields that need to be produced to do it…..

  11. MZ.A says:

All I can say is WOW!
many years ago I’d read bits and parts about it and I know it’s supposed to be a true story but I never really knew that much in detail, that is so horrible and sad what happened to those people especially the part about being half in the bulkhead, thats just down right creepy. I know they made a movie about that a few years ago.
I can’t even begin to imagine what must have happened.

  12. Alicia. says:

Well, I meen i believe this..and of coarse the government
    would confirm this….
they have so many unexplained stories that either one
day may be found out by the media or
we will all just never ever know.

  13. jake says:

interesting thing about this is they are actually close to building a practical cloaking device, but it is more of a recent project they use Metamaterial, its actually very interesting! fourth dimention however is just time :(

  14. Ibelieve says:

(Oliver North was the generals name.) 1970s these types got a lot of notice due to Leonard Nimoy’s show. Mysteries of the Unexplained. That is when i got hooked. It did 4 segments a show. This was one of them. There are several books out with some pics. Not graphic. Showed the ships. I thought i remembered it being a sub and that none on it survived. Also recalled it showing up for 1 or 2 minutes on west coast of Florida.

  15. Robbie Scifres says:

To I believe – there could be several more ships that were involved and we don’t know about them. One time there was a documentary on all the strange and weird inventions that were submitted to the government by people for the war. Some of those things were really WEIRD! BUT they worked! That was the amazing thing. They may not have done exactly what the inventor or military expected them to do but they did work. If they got hold of a way to shield or shift vessels from one place to another the government would have held on to it and worked on it at a later date. Do you know how many scientists (even ones who had been Nazi’s) were brought to the United States immediately after the war? Russia and the U.S. were in a race to find and transport certain ones who had been working on secret projects for Germany. If you think this is too far out just look at some of the comic books that came out in the 1930′s. Nothing was too bizarre to try – before or after the war. Flash Gordon was far fetched in it’s day and we have been to the moon, have a working science/space station out there and send robot probes to Mars that send back pictures (remember the one of the Face? Man that caused some controversy). So if these things have become possible, why not the Philadelphia Experiment? Robbie

  17. Matt says:

Yeah, i saw a documentary on that! If i remember correctly i think they had some footage of it, and also spoke to people who witnessed it. I for one believe it happened!
