I am 72 years old, and I live in an area of Kentucky where there are numerous small caves. Some are very large, and go for miles. None of these have been improved, and the public is not invited to visit or go into them. Many moons ago, the Cherokee Indians in this area lived in these caves during the winter months. I have found many Indian artifacts around the opening of the cave on my property.
One warm night in 1984, I stepped outside to smoke. My wife didn’t like me smoking in the house. The temperature outside was about 75 degrees. The moon was full. Off in the distance, about 100 yards from my house, I saw something that make the hair stand on my neck.
I saw what looked like a large white sheet, blowing in the wind, and it was coming right toward me. It was about 50 feet square, and at least 3 feet thick. As it moved in the moonlight, it was luminous. It was undulating like a sheet blowing in a strong wind. But, there was no wind that night.
As it got closer, I saw that it was going to miss me, so I stepped out farther into the yard. I spread out my arms and that apparition went through me, moving fast. It felt like some very cold air blowing out of an air conditioner!
I turned around, and the “sheet” went out of sight, undulating, toward the south.
What was it? I have no idea. But I have a creepy feeling that it was the ghosts of that Indian villagers who used to live there, and they were once again wandering over their former homes, checking them out.
If anyone has a better explanation, I’d like to hear it.

Dear Jim,
What a vision that must have been!
Based on your description of the area you are in, it must have been Native Americans. What is to say that the shape could not have been a group of spirits? Like a giant “Indian Blanket”. If the area you live in still has a group of Native Americans you could ask someone about what you saw. We have a big group of Cherokee here in Northern Alabama, they get together from time to time, to have a festival, to celebrate their culture.
You might look into going to one of these events involving the tribes in your area. I know that many of the tribes moved further West when the fellows like Daniel Boone moved into Kentucky. But there are likely decendents of the Shawnee and others in your area that you could speak to about what you observed. It would be interesting to find out what someone of their culture would have to say. Perhaps they, the spirits, are still nomads seeking greater and better hunting grounds. It is possible that the “sheet” was a group that was massacered all at the same time by either the whites or another tribe. If they all died at the same time there is no reason not to think that their spirits could have banded together to create the “sheet” you experienced.
Wow!
I know I have never heard anything like that before! I certainly don’t know what I would have done if I had seen it or had it blow through me!
Thanks for sharing your very unusual experience.
Wow that is interesting, I’ve heard that spirits can pass through you, I think that’s what it was the Indian……….great story
Wow that is great. I am half Apache and half Comache by my grandparents. Did it started when you found the artifacts? Maybe they did not like that you took it home from them and they want it back. Just a thought. If anything else happens let me know ok. lol
i bet that was really something to see! that thing was huge. i have no idea but thanks for a really interesting story!!
Beautiful. I’m sure it was scary, but other than the initial “scared” feeling, do you remember feeling anything else?
jim, you are brave!! cause if i saw something strange coming towards me, you know i’d be running scared back into the house in a second!! that’s creepy, but i’m glad it was harmless
thats freakin creepy! In my school i was learning about the native americans but i never knew that they came back as a ghost
