My Haunted Childhood Home

In 1973 my parents bought an old house that had been sitting empty for a long time. The house was at the end of a hollow (“Holler”) and you actually had to have a 4-wheel drive vehicle to even get to it. (When the weather was bad you couldn’t even get a 4-wheel drive up to it!)

This house was fairly big and included an above ground basement which made it two stories high plus a huge attic. The house had been vandalized in that most of the windows were busted, ceiling tiles and walls torn up and lots of garbage and junk. My father was a mason and carpenter, he built homes for a living so he went to work on the remodeling. It took a while before he had the house ready for us to move into and even then at first we stayed in an area down stairs until the rest of the house was ready. Eventually …

Evil in The Allen Room

Before I try to explain what happened I need to tell you a little background information. The house was located at the “head of the holler”, in other words it was the last house in the hollow.

Behind and around the house there were two pastures and behind those were the hills full of trees. We found several large piles of stones scattered around in the back pasture and thought they were Indian burials (kids right?). Eventually curiosity got the best of me and I started looking into the stone piles. These were large, heavy rocks and the piles were fairly big. I started finding old marble door knobs. I thought they were cool and antique so I began collecting them. This went on for awhile and then one day I found a jet black door knob. All the other door knobs were white or varying shades of white. Although I did not realize it at the time that was …

The Ghostly Pack

I grew up wild and wooly on a large tobacco and horse farm in Kentucky, never staying inside for very long. My life had been touched with tragedy on many occasions by the time my mother committed suicide on my sisters birthday in August of 73. Hence I had grown into a quiet and unhappy young man. The only thing that had ever made me feel good was to be outside, under the sun or moon, hunting and fishing, or just walking the trails looking for Arrow heads and four leaf clovers.

My partner in crime was my older cousin Wayne, and a finer outdoor partner and Cowboy to my Indian there never was. Wayne however was all Indian, tall and black haired, dark skinned with dark eyes and a devil may care manner. As a child I idolized him and thought him the most experienced trapper and hunter I’d ever known. Wayne was one of the few people I …

Old Cabin on Old Boonesboro Road

Growing up wild and wooly the way I did meant that my friends were few and far between, but they were each one precious to me. Two of my very best friends were Bill and Willie, and truer better friends there weren’t on the planet. Bill was our leader, he of the old and beautiful Jeep truck, his blond head set at more than 6 feet above the ground, on his broad country shoulders.

Next was Willie, the cowboy, the clown, the bronc rider. Willie was as tough as they came, and as good. He often led us into a situation that Bill tried to get us out of, and often as not failed to do so. Willie is the genius behind our VW scandal that must never be talked about. He snored loudly and chewed tobacco.

Bills Father, after months of begging and wheedling by the three of us, finally gave to Bill the old cabin set back from …

A Voice in My Head – The Prankster

Hello, Let me start out by telling you a little bit about myself.

I am a 34 year old male from Manchester, Kentucky. I am married but currently separated and I have a 6 year old son. I really don’t know where to begin but I’ll try. Around 6 months ago I got a DUI charge and lost my drivers license therefore lately I’ve not really been able to be social(spend a lot of time alone). I’ve noticed some strange things that I’ve not seen before. I really don’t even know how to explain it.

I think a lot… might even go as far as talk to myself at times. I know this sounds crazy but I’ve been hearing a voice in my head and I’ve been catching myself answering it aloud. At first I thought nothing of it but it’s gotten out of hand… it’s using my family against me. It’s pretending to be family members and lies a …

My Fiances Familiar?

I apologize in advance for the length of this story. There is SO much to it.

I have been with my fiancé (we’ll call him Nick) for three and a half years. About a year into our relationship he confessed something to me. He said that there was a creature that had been following him since he was a child. He has a certain “sight” and has always had paranormal experiences.

Nick is from Eastern Kentucky and moved to the state line of VA/KY at a young age. When he was very young (maybe 5-8), he got himself lost in the woods around his house. This small dog-like creature told him that if Nick would give *it* something it would help him out. It helped Nick out of the woods and disappeared for a bit. And then it was back.

According to my fiancé, it would always appear a little bit larger every time it appeared. The creature would constantly …

Human Bone and Shadow Figures in Kentucky

First of all great website. It is good such a place exists so that there is help for those who have similar problems. When I was about 14 years old me and another friend used to hike in the woods in front of my house. I live in Kentucky and the woods are mostly knobs and full of old rocks and cubby holes. At the top of the knob was a large flat rock with holes that went inside of the rock. It looked sort of like a large Swiss cheese. It was probably 100 foot wide and 30 foot long. We had played there before but never really went into the holes.

This one day in particular we went into one of the holes. The soil was like sand. Very fine and it sifted easily. We started joking around about how Jessie James might have buried gold in the hole and started digging around. I dug up a rib …

Beaver Dam Graveyard and Another

This happened 10 years ago. Two other friends and I went to a place in Kentucky called Beaver Dam. We loved walking through Cemeteries and taking photos, and this particular day in Beaver Dam we visited one. The front of the graveyard was more current and the older part was on the hill. We visited the new part first no big deal didn’t feel anything weird, but when we reached the hill that’s when stuff got strange. My two friends wanted to hold a daytime séance on someone’s grave and I strongly disagreed and protested it was just a strong feeling I had. My one friend quickly decided I was right and said we needed to leave right away because it didn’t feel right to be there anymore and plus the sky turned dark like it was going to thunderstorm. I wanted to hang a little longer and she insisted that it was time to go before something happens. Well …

Dawkins Road Oldham County Kentucky Haunting

This is a story I don’t tell very often. I grew up in Oldham County Kentucky, on Dawkins Road in an area called the Devil’s Backbone because of its higher elevation compared to the surrounding countryside. We lived in an old house that was supposedly built before the Civil War. It has been torn down some 20 years now.

Forty+ years ago, when I was around 12 or 13 years old, I had an experience with the paranormal. One night while in bed I felt a strange sensation like someone was staring at me. I was lying on my side and turned around and saw a young man with a mustache in 19th century attire looking right at me. I could see him clearly because of the faint porch light coming in through the window. I looked at him for a few seconds until I lost my nerve and ducked under the covers. When I looked back a second later …

The Haunted Old Pilgrim Portrait

My friend told me this story about how about 70 years this lady owned a really strange portrait that was supposedly possessed by the lady painted in it. The story sounds like on cartoons when they walk through the creepy haunted house and the portraits look at you as you walk along. Here’s how it goes.

Around 1940 an old lady named Francis owned a 18th century portrait of a wealthy lady in a black dress. She had bought from a man in Kentucky who was strangely eager to sell it for a cheap price.

The first day she had it in her house she heard a woman moaning at night coming from the living room where it was hung. When she went to investigate nothing weird was going on so she went back to sleep.

The second day she was playing the piano in the living room and heard an operatic voice singing along she immediately stopped playing and …

Did I See a Vampire in Kentucky?

I’m 20 years old and I’m married to a U.S. Soldier. We got married last July and he moved me from my home town in Michigan all the way to Kentucky. I know it’s going to sound like I’m babbling, but I swear everything I say is relevant to the story. I’m not the type of person to believe in vampires. You could say I’m a complete skeptic. “I’ll believe it when I see it”, that’s my motto. and it was working out perfectly fine… Until I saw it!

I’m really not sure what happened to this day, we were living in a tiny house way out in the country, surrounded my nothing but cornfields. Here’s where the real story starts. My husband knows I love animals and he got me a puppy as a surprise. He was perfect and I named him Barney. If you can picture the perfect dog, that is him. he was potty trained really young, …

Native American Indian Ghosts in Kentucky

I am 72 years old, and I live in an area of Kentucky where there are numerous small caves. Some are very large, and go for miles. None of these have been improved, and the public is not invited to visit or go into them. Many moons ago, the Cherokee Indians in this area lived in these caves during the winter months. I have found many Indian artifacts around the opening of the cave on my property.

One warm night in 1984, I stepped outside to smoke. My wife didn’t like me smoking in the house. The temperature outside was about 75 degrees. The moon was full. Off in the distance, about 100 yards from my house, I saw something that make the hair stand on my neck.

I saw what looked like a large white sheet, blowing in the wind, and it was coming right toward me. It was about 50 feet square, and at least 3 feet thick. …
