Dream Girl

Posted on February 10, 2011

Back in 1990 (or was it in ’91?) I decided to stay on campus for the summer at U of I; I would usually go home for the summer but this time around I wanted to see what it would be like to work and live away from my parents. It was a great summer. I worked at the campus coffee shop and hung out in the evening with friends. Well, I didn’t realize until it was too late that there is about a week where old leases ended and new leases began. During this time management companies would clean and touch up apartments for incoming students/tenants. Literally I was going to be homeless for a week.

Fortunately a couple of my friends were able to move into their apartment 10 days earlier. Even better was that their apartment complex was across the street from where I would be living. So, I gathered my things and moved in with them. In appreciation for their hospitality, I set up my entertainment center/equipment so that they could enjoy it while I stayed. Everything was cool as can be. I compted their coffee beverages where I worked and they enjoyed some movies in super loud stereo at home.

One lazy afternoon we were all hanging out in the living room. My friend Alex (not his real name) was on one end of the couch reading while his roommate/girlfriend Alice (again, not the real name) was on her rocking chair also reading. I was lying on my back on the floor watching TV. I was slowly drifting into sleep and the last thing I remember is the scenario I just described just before going under.

Now here’s the interesting part; I am not sure if I ever completely fell asleep. One moment I was watching TV and in the next moment I am looking at my friends through a hazy veil; Alex on the couch and Alice on the rocking chair. Also, there was a girl sitting opposite Alex on the other end of the couch. She had her arms crossed and I think her legs were crossed as well. She had straight blonde hair maybe just past her shoulders. Her clothes were light pastel colors with white and blue somewhere in the mix. She was either wearing shorts or a skirt. I couldn’t see her face but I know she was looking right at me. I never saw her move but from moment to moment she would be somewhere else. In one instant she was no longer on the couch but kneeling next to me near my chest looking down on me. In the next moment she was kneeling closer to my legs still looking at me. Finally, she was resting on top of me with her arms crossed on top of my chest still looking at me. Her face was inches away from mine but it’s like she never let me see what she looked like. A moment later I woke up or snapped out of what ever I was in.

I’ve also had experiences where I would wake suddenly and be paralyzed with that ugly feeling of something restraining you. This wasn’t one of those experiences. This was more of a chance encounter. I related this story to Alex and Alice but they never experienced anything during their stay there. I related this story to everyone that I knew that lived in that area but no one ever heard of or seen something resembling this ghost/person.

Later in the school year closer to mid October I happened to be hanging out with a co-worker and some of her friends. We were drinking beers and related stories to one another. We touched on the subject of ghost stories and I related my experience with the blonde ghost. To my surprise one of them has heard of her as well. Apparently she is not confined to a single building but rather the buildings on a certain street (Lincoln Avenue.) We couldn’t find any information about her or who she could possibly be. The only thing we could speculate is that she may have been a member of a sorority from the 1960′s only because her outfit resembled the outfits of the sorority girls from the movie Animal House. I hope you enjoyed my story. I have more to come.
