The Forest Cabin

Posted on May 30, 2010

It all started when I was six years old. I was really lonely as a child, my parents neglected me a lot for my younger sister, so I was left by myself; I used to have imaginary friends, which I have recently discovered weren’t so imaginary.

I would always play in the backyard for hours by myself. We lived out of town, in a forest cabin, we mysteriously won the lottery one day, so we didn’t have to work. My parents loved the forest so they thought it would be nice to live there. I never liked it because I always saw things in the forest… I never thought much of it though.

While I was playing outside with my ball and it rolled into the forest. Hesitating, I followed. I slowly walked in and picked up my ball, for it to just be slapped right out of my hand. Shocked, I took a step back. The wind then blew in my hair and I heard someone whispering my name. It got louder and louder. And then I saw two kids standing before me. One was a boy, who looked about eleven, and another was a girl who looked the same age as me. They smiled at me when I looked at them, and the girl picked up my ball. I smiled back and took my ball. I knew they were nice people. I assumed they were living next door.

The boy’s name was Thomas and the girl’s was Britney. We talked in the forest for a long time until it was time for them to go home. When I told my parents that I had made new friends from next door, they told me that no one lived next door and they hit me for talking to strangers, my parents had never been abusive towards me until we moved into this town, what was happening to them? I ran to the house next door to see my new friends… no one lived there. I looked through the window and there was nothing inside.

I walked into town and went to the police station and told them what happened with my parents. I then got placed into a foster home and I was safe away from my parents. Over time I had forgotten about my mysterious friends, until recently when I decided to do some research on the forest and the town.

Two children had been brutally murdered by their abusive parents, 20 years before I moved to that town. They were slaughtered in the house, they had written messages in their blood, and then taken them outside and performed a ceremony. their parents then got put in jail for 25 years to life, to this day they believed their children were possessed. Researching the house that my parents bought horrified me when I had uncovered that my parents were murdered few days after I left.

I never plan on returning to that town again.

I feel bad for you as well. Your story is quite shocking. Just due to the nature of this website and the stories that are written, I am going to ask a question that is on many readers minds. I hope that this is not too insensative to ask but, is this story 100% true? Forgive me for asking but some stories that end up here are creative writing.

I agree JK, it does sound a little made up but then i think ive got a cheek coz i hate it wen people dont believe me and i know im tellin the truth. i would also like to know were this took place coz if one of us can look up these murders it’ll prove they actually happened. If it is true im very sorry you went through that, i dont understand why parents abuse there own kids, its sick. u want to protect them, it should b part of our genetic make up, seems to b missing in some people.

This was a fun ghost story. You wove in the “Hansel and Gretel” angle, and then brought it back to modern times with the Lottery and foster care introduction, and then the death of your parents. If your parents died days after you went into foster care, you would have been notified at that time. Also, your sister just seemed to disappear from the story. Another point that leaves me suspicious is that next of kin (adult family) would have come into the picture given that you won the lottery. Who got the money? Who was the Executor/Executrix of the estate? If there was none, the state would have assigned someone to handle the estate/money. It’s unreasonable that you had to wait until you “matured and did research on the old house in the woods” to learn about your parents death — especially given the “lottery money” at stake.

    Nope — just doesn’t jive as a true story. Sorry — :-(

All good points kind skeptic. I tried myself to be very sensative wit my own questions.

JK — By all means, tact should always be deployed in any response. I do, however, take a bit of issue w/ folks using this site as a creative writing experiment. Sometimes, it seems that these are written by people who want to see if those of us who do believe in phonomena and metaphysics can be taken advantage of by virtue of our perceived gullibility. This writer evidently believes we are all way too dull-minded to read between the lines. Have a great day……
