It was a summer night on a blue moon (the second full moon in a month, happens every two to three years. It is said that a blue moon has more power then a regular full moon.)
I was told by a Babalao (an African priest I see) that I should make an offering to Ochun (the goddess of the river) as she takes care of me. Because he knows there aren’t a lot of rivers in LA he sent me to the ocean as all rivers end in the ocean.
I planned it all out, and invited one of my best friend, who is a Christian but has an open mind. I told her to shower before we went and to wear white. We both did that. We planned to drive to Arizona that weekend to have a personal reading with the Babalao, so we drove from LA to San Diego. Stopped on a beach near there.
As we got out of the car and began to walk, I remembered I left my offering (white flowers). I turned back, while my best friend slowed down. As I walked back my friend was about 30 feet ahead of me. As I looked down the path way I saw a lady looking onto the sand the ocean being in from of me, she was looking to the side into the darkness. I remember thinking “what is she looking at, is her family there?”
As I came up to the place where she was at, something inside told me to look, because I had forgotten. Well, there was no lady there instead there was a sign with the name of the beach. At that moment I called out my friends name and told her “I just saw a lady standing there”, she turned and said “no way, I did too.”
We told each other what we saw, a lady with long hair in dark blue or black dressing a skirt or long dress.
We went ahead and did all that we where there to do. And left. On our way to Arizona, we could not believe what we had seen and tried to explain it but couldn’t.
I told the babalao about it. He said that was Yamaya (the goddess of the ocean).
And that is the closest story I have to a ghost story. Was it a goddess or ghost? I don’t know.

Annabel,,, that was a great story…. i have also heard of the blue moon, but wasnt sure what it was all about…. the sea has always been a huge mystery to me…and always been very calming, although, i havent visited the sea in quite a few years now… what you saw was amazing…. i am always interested in different religions and practices..
i hope someone here can shed more light on your story,, i would love to hear more!!!!
take care hun,,, ktm
i’ve heard there’s something to a blue moon and have heard the phrase”once in a blue moon”. cool post, thanks
“Once in the blue moon”, that is actually why the phrase is said. ( I see you every once in a blue moon)….once in a long time, because a blue moon only occurs every 2 to 3 years.
Well, that night I called for my soul mate, I wrote everything I wanted in him and sent it off into the ocean. Three years later, I was in Cuba (the birthplace of the religion I follow, referred to as “Santeria” but in reality its the oldest religion, originating in Africa and brought to Cuba by the slave trade, mixing with the Catholic beliefs of the Saints) So, there I was on the hot sands of Santa Maria beach, known by the locals as Blue Sea. I saw a young man unlike the others pass by. The second time I saw him I winked my eye at him, he took a second look but passed on by. Several minutes later, I was walking into the water to wash of some sand and there he was coming out walking right towards me. I’ve been together for over 3 years now.
I believe that on that blue moon and me seeing Yamaya and asking her to bring my soul mate had something to do with it.
Oh one more thing, my friend that joined me that night is getting married with a guy named “David”……my partner’s name is David too. Trip out ha?
Cool info on goddess of ocean and a silent night in the beach always gives me the creeps!
Hi KTM, TROLLDOLL AND THE AUTHOR ANNABEL!.!.! I just love blue, the blue sky, the blue ocean. Oh i am out of topic! ! ! and nice of u to share ur story with us and if i were u i will try to go to the place again to see her again coz she is a goddess! ! ! with cool breeze of love manik!@!@!
Cool story!!What the Babalao says is right,She Is Yamaya(the sea goddes)!!But i just want to know 1 thing…is she beautiful??Because there is only 1 thing to prove that she’s a goddes, that she is beautiful!!!
Great story! I too am in awe of the ocean. The rawness of it, the peacefulness and mystery kind of draws me to it. I remember when I was backpacking around New Zealand by myself in winter, I was staying at this hostel a stones throw from a beautiful beach. I went to the beach late at night. It was beautiful moon lit night. I was the only person there and I just sat there on the beach for about 40mins watching the waves crash on the beach. I was so relaxed, I could have stayed there all night! My name is David too!!;-)
Funny thing,, my Dad’s name was also David…..i was born in Wales, Great Britain, and we lived by the seaside, with huge cliffs.. talking about fresh air,, and cold!!! burrr,,lol…. but,, breathtaking at the same time..i remember as a very small child, going into the edge of the sea,,,, oh boy,, the water was cold,,, my parents would take pics. of me and my sis screaming and laughing, and shivering..lol…….
i have lived in the USA, for many years now,, and like i said, havent been to the sea in quite a few years now.. and its only 4 hours away.. maybe when i get my stengh back, i can visit the sea again….
we usuallly go to Myrtle Beach SC,, as i live in SC….. i have also been to Daytona beach, Florida… it is so calming,, i could also sit there all day long, and watch the waves, and smell the salt in the breeze… i can feel it now!!!!! I have also been to Charlston….
Anyway,, the point is,, i just loved all of the info: on the blue moon!!! i have a great picture that i took on my and my hubby’s honeymoon in Myrtle Beach in 2001….. we got up every morning before daybreak, and started snapping pics… this was with a 35 ml. camera, so we could not see the pics at that moment… the pic that i have on our wall is amazing..
as the sun was coming up, this one morning, the moon was setting at the same time.. the picture captured both.. the water was orange, pink, and light blue, with the waves, fluffy white… i will never foreget that trip,, we where in such awe of the beauty that we saw..
this thread has been so relaxing to me.. it just feels so good to read it, over and over…
thank you Annabel, for posting such a wonderful story….. i hope to see the blue moon one day….
God Bless,,, ktm

take care hun,,,ktm
i love the moon its so beutiful to look at your lucky to have seen a blue one . ive heard of this theory called the lunar theory which when its a full moon it brings out the animal instincts in humans call it what you want but think about this ghosts and demons and angels exist well maybe other things do aswell we just cant understand it so we deny it thats all im saying
I love this story! beautiful!
Have a blessed life!
