Late Night Terrors

Posted on December 19, 2010

I was living in a fifth story apartment in Stockton, California in 1999 when the following events took place. The apartment was a very beautiful place: I was told it was built in the 20′s and still had an a very Art deco feel and look. My living room was quite large, hardwood floors and I had views of the city, I had a whole corner of the building to myself. I felt happy to be living independently after a failed marriage. I worked and came home. I thought I was doing ok.

I admit to delving in the occult. I used to buy candles from an occult/magic shop in Manteca, California. I was lonely and the candles were supposed to be love spells, and I had candles burning all the time.

I started having nightmares. I would start to fall asleep and felt once I was asleep, that something or someone was in the apartment with me. I would lie awake as long as I could but as soon as I fell asleep, the cycle would start over again..I would feel total dread and fear and a sort of sleep paralysis would take over. I was averaging about 4 hours of sleep every night.

One night when I was asleep, I was lying facing the wall in my bedroom and I felt someone sit at the corner of my bed. I could not turn my head in the direction of the presence. This happened twice. It was totally terrifying.

The nightmares were nightly. Then it got worse. I would hear what sounded like an animal running the length of the hallway towards my bedroom, it sounded like its claws were scratching the hall as it ran towards my bed. It would then go under my bed and start growling. It was either the animal and its growling or heavy breathing right under my pillow. The voice I heard was male and deep.

Once I had a date over, we fell asleep on my bed and awoke four hours later and we both thought that we had taken a light nap. WE LOST FOUR HOURS! We looked at the clock and were confounded, no way did we sleep that long! Where did the time go?

In desperation, I went to my doctor and told him that for weeks I had been unable to sleep due to nightmares and the activity in my apartment. He prescribed temazepam. That night I took one pill as prescribed and slept the whole night. The horror was over. It never happened again. Thank God!
