Is Grandma’s House Haunted?

Posted on February 7, 2010

Well to begin, I really don’t believe in ghosts. I have my own theories to explain the paranormal, but anyway here are some things that have happened at my Grandmother’s home.

Well for as long as I can remember my Grandma’s basement has given me and most of my family the creeps! But you know how basements are. Cold, damp, musty and just down right eerie! Well my Grandmother’s basement is finished with carpet and furniture and such. There are basically four different rooms or sections of the basement. The first section, the first area you enter when coming down the stairs, is fairly large. At the far end of that area another smaller room branches out where they keep a large freezer and refrigerator for extra groceries and things. And extending from opposite ends of that area are two more storage rooms both with doors that can shut and lock.

Now after many years of living there, of course my Grandmother’s basement is practically just used as storage and filled with piles and stacks of things or junk whichever term you prefer. The only thing that is really of use down there is the freezer and fridge and also the piano.

Well I have played the piano since I was a small child and I very often go downstairs to play. As long as I can remember I always get a sense of being watched or just that I am not alone, and it usually comes from the area of the two storage rooms that have the doors. Nothing has ever happened there, no one has died and in fact my Grandparents actually had the house built. No ancient Indian burial grounds there either! It is probably high EMF fields or something.

A few years ago I started noticing something very strange and down right spooky. Upstairs, right above where the piano is, there is a bathroom. Several times I have been in there and I hear the faintest piano music playing right below me. I am a skeptic big time so of course I tried to investigate and see what was up. No one downstairs. No one has been downstairs. But the TV in the living room is on and playing music. So for the longest time I chalked it all up to being me hearing the TV and just the way it echoes makes it sound like its coming from the basement. So every time I would hear the music of course the TV was on in the other room and I was happy with that explanation.

But one day I was there alone. I had just walked in the door and all the lights and TV and things were turned off because my Grandparents were gone. I had to run to the bathroom real quick before I had the chance to turn any lights on or anything else on in the house. While I was in there I heard the music begin to play below me. Needless to say I was freaked out! I knew for a fact the TV was not on and no one else was there. I left. I didn’t come back until someone else was home because I didn’t want to be alone there of course.

I didn’t tell my family about the whole thing because I know they would have just brushed it off. But anyway that is just one thing that happens at my Grandma’s. There is another story that is extremely more frightening that I will tell in a later post that I will name “Is Grandma’s House Haunted? 2″. So let me know what you think and be on the lookout for future posts!

Even skeptics cant explain everything. My step father is a skeptic and makes fun of us all the time for being freaked out and i remember one night something frightening happened and my mom said something and he said to us “well dont piss it off”. It was funny but he just couldnt explain what was going on. Your story was just fine love. Nice and creepy lol.

I think your story was great even though it was short. I think you did everything right in telling this story the way you did. You gave a skeptical point of view (which most people have when it comes to the supernatural) and then you added just the right touch of eeriness without making things too revealing and corny. I’ve read many ghost stories that was great in the beginning but just totally ruins the mood by trying to describe the ghost/entity. It not only made it not scary, it became cheap and unrealistic-sounding.

Hi thanks for sharing your story..I enjoyed it.Will be waiting to read pt.2…it sounds like to me that there is a spirit in your Grandma’s house…and that you and your family picked up on it when you ‘felt”something’ when you go into the basement. Also the piano music being played and heard…makes me think that the spirit is trying to let you know ”’hey,I’m here! And even through you and your family are skeptics…I wonder if you have a paranormal gift or abilities? Some people that start out skeptic…become believers…when they personally experiance ‘things’ that cannot be explained by natural causes…anyway just my opinion which you can take or leave…Blessed Be!!!

Remeber, things as well as homes can be hunted, so the next time your playing at your piano, just enjoy it, it soulds like others do…..
