Haunted Bed And Breakfast?

Posted on August 15, 2008

I’ve always wanted to see a ghost, have a ghostly encounter, anything to do with the paranormal, ever since I was a little girl. Finally, I think I got my wish. It wasn’t as epic and dramatic as most stories, but it was enough for me.

As I said above, I love hearing/seeing things to do with the paranormal. So, I decided to help my chances of it happening it to me by going to a bed and breakfast with my ex (boyfriend at the time) in Gettysburg, PA. A good local place to start I thought.

We picked out a quaint Bed and Breakfast that was civil war era. The room we had was a “suite,” with a large room and private bathroom. The whole house was very nice, the owner was pleasant. So we lugged our stuff up the stairs to our room.

The first thing I noticed was how cold our room was compared to the rest of the house. Like, ice cold. So cold that I suggested we leave as soon as we dropped our suitcases so I could go buy a sweatshirt at Wal-Mart. It was funny, because the house was on central air (if that’s what it is called, when the house is heated/cooled by one system). The second thing I noticed was how my stomach was kinda icky walking around. I remember thinking, “I really hope I don’t get sick, I want to enjoy this.”

We left to go get dinner and get the sweatshirt. For some reason though, I found myself not wanting to go back to the house while we were out. My boyfriend thought I was being crazy, we paid for the room, but I couldn’t help it. We got dinner, drove around, went to Wal-Mart. Basically, just wasted tons of time and gas. Until we had nothing more to do but go back.

Once again the room was ICY cold. And once again, my stomach started twisting. I had ate light at dinner because I didn’t want to be ill, but that didn’t seem to be helping. We got into bed, but I begged to keep the TV on, because like I said, I didn’t have a good feeling. As we lay in bed, I found myself thinking that someone was lurking just around the corner of the wall. I could just imagine them, leaning against the wall, carefully peering around at us. Somehow, unlike my boyfriend who fell asleep promptly, I drifted off after an hour of sheet clutching.

I don’t know how long I slept, but that sick feeling woke me up. Like nauseous sick. The room was pitch black, the TV off. I was on my side, facing my boyfriend, my back to the wall and bathroom door. I knew instantly that I did NOT want to turn around. But stupid me, I couldn’t help myself, and I couldn’t stand the thought of my back being so vulnerable. So I turned around slowly, my eyes clenched shut. As I faced the other wall, I felt even colder than before.

I opened my eyes and saw an inky dark shadow, standing there, at the side of our bed. Tall, no definable features, just a black patch work blob of a human figure. I just stared, hoping and praying that it was my eyes playing tricks on me. Slowly, but surely the figure melted back into the darkness.

I laid there, unmoving, my stomache sicker than before. But I wasn’t moving out of that bed if it killed me. I don’t remember if I slept at all the rest of the night. If I did, it was for very short periods at a time.

When the sun finally came up and lit up the room, I jumped out of bed and ran to the bathroom, becoming violently ill. So much so, that it woke my boyfriend up. He took one look at me and knew it was time to go.

The original plan was to ask the owner over breakfast about any hauntings. But at this point, I was so sick, I just wanted to leave. We met up with the owner in the hallway, and we told him how sorry we were, but we had to leave. He nodded and looked at us. “So I guess you didn’t meet Traveler then, huh?”

We looked at each other and him (I still hadn’t told my boyfriend about last night either). “No, what do you mean?”

“Traveler is our resident ghost. But you two left your light on all night, so it doesn’t surprise me you didn’t see him.”

My jaw dropped. First off, we didn’t have any lights on, minus the TV, and that had somehow been turned off. Secondly, had what I’d seen last night been real? Not some nightmare of my over-active imagination?

I’ll never be sure what really happened. I can tell you that I asked my boyfriend about turning off the TV, but he said he didn’t move all night. I can also tell you that my stomach started feeling better as soon as we left the house. Of course though in the end, it could have boiled down to bad chicken fingers and a girl’s want to see something, anything. It was something I’ll never forget though.

    Hi,
You were seriously looking for a paranormal experience. I got one for free. Two years back, I landed up in a hotel room where I was awakened by a dark shadow. I dismissed it saying to myself-”There is nothing there.” But you think that ghost wanted to be ignored.. He/She/It switched on the bedside wall mounted light on the other side of the bed. Oooo !!

I’ve kind of had the same experience as you, I didnt want to look, but I absoultly had to turn around and get it out of my head and of course there was someone standing over there and trying to touch my arm. I think it was my uncle or sister. I wasnt quite sure, but i wanted to see who it was, but i was half asleep and my eyes fully couldnt see but the time it took for me to realize what was happening the shadow vanished.

I have a ghost that resides in my basement. Her name is Anne, and she is a young child. She refuses to tell me how she died, but she has a strange obsession for my cat, named Baby. Anne is around 7 or 8. She tends to throw tantrums when I dont come and talk to her often enough. But, against common beliefs, ghosts are not all demons or bad spirits. Some are kind, some want to help humans, and some that are merely lost. Remember when you were little, and had an imaginary friend?Sometimes a childs “imaginary friend” is a ghost. They arent all that scary.
