My husband and I rented a house in a peaceful seaside area for a year in 2007. The house was not old, and there was no sense of mystery to the place – it was actually kind of dull. I am an insomniac, and one night, like many others, I was wide awake. I gave up trying to sleep and opened my eyes. Above me, at about an arm’s length, was most of a man’s face. He looked about 50ish. I could see all his features, including a gray goatee, little round rimless glasses, the wrinkles around his blue eyes – everything but the top right of his forehead. These features were crisp and clear, though the entire face looked as though it was completely flat and two-dimensional, and was semi-translucent. I could see the ceiling fixtures through him. I was a little scared, but intrigued. Something that particularly struck me was that if I could have taken a picture right then and there, it probably would have looked like I had Photoshopped it. It looked too perfect, crisp, and flat, like a bad fake ghost picture.
He hovered in the same place, but his eyes were darting around, looking at me, and he had a puzzled, sort of confused expression. He looked like he was wondering why I was there. He didn’t appear to be angry or actually frightening in any way. I stared at him for about three minutes, looking away only to take the opportunity to look around the room to make sure it wasn’t just some kind of strange light phenomenon. He remained there, hovering, until I started feeling just too freaked out – I stuck my hand up and waved it around, saying, ‘Go away!’ The apparition dissipated and vanished like smoke.
I woke up my husband to tell him about this, but of course, it’s difficult to convince someone you saw what you saw when they didn’t see it themselves. He went back to sleep but I was a little too excited and freaked out to sleep. I watched some TV for a couple of hours, and then turned it off, again trying to sleep. Again, I couldn’t and I opened my eyes, almost expecting to see the face above me. There was no face, but at the foot of the bed, on my husband’s side, was a foggy, smoky body shape (no features or details at all) sitting on the bed! And as I looked at it, it stood up and took a couple of steps away and then faded to nothing.
My husband still doesn’t really believe me, and thinks, of course, that I was dreaming – but of course, I know when I am actually awake. Regardless of how this story may sound to anyone, I definitely know what I saw.
Nothing else ever happened in that house for the remaining months we lived there. Just this one crazy night!

HMMMMM maybe it was a residule haunting…. thanks for sharing!
if he was moving and looking at you it was a intelligent haunt. i would say it was a ghost!
Is there somebody within family history who is related to you or your partner
That looks like spirit that haunted you, or did a man who looked like the one you saw pass away in your house?
No, he looked nothing like anyone dead in either of our families, nor did anyone die in the house. However, we later found out (through the landlord who described him and an old photo we found) he looked similar to the man who lived there previous to us (who was not dead). This leads me to consider that not every apparition is necessarily a ghost per se – this is such a speculative realm and none of us really know any answers about it – for all I know this could have been some kind of psychic projection, for example. I am certainly not ruling out that he may well have been a ghost – it does seem to be the most obvious conclusion – but I am suggesting that if my mind is open to the possibility of ghosts, it must also be open to many other possibilities.
