Ghost In Grandpa's House
I recently moved from Minneapolis to a small town in Wisconsin. I was living with my 95 year old grandfather because he had offered the upstairs to me. I was a little on the broke side. It was nice I had two big rooms, a bathroom, and a little guest room. It was like a small apartment.
I had heard my father talk (laugh) about an experience my uncle had upstairs when he was in his early twenties. My father claimed that my uncle saw something upstairs, but would never say what it was and to this day when my uncle visits he will not sleep upstairs.
One night I was sleeping upstairs and woke up to see what I assumed was my grandpa in the hallway. I told him to go downstairs because it was dark and late and he was too old to be going up and down the stairs in the dark. I realized as soon as I said it that it was not him, it was a dark shadow. The shadow grew and became very tall and seemed to be spying on me. I closed my eyes and held my breath and looked up again and it was gone. Whew! I was hoping that was the end of my experiences because I needed a place to stay and was comfortable in my little upstairs apartment.
A couple of days went by and I woke up to what I thought was pipe smoke filling the air, it was very thick. It did not smell like a pipe, in fact it did not smell at all. I just assumed it was pipe smoke because my grandpa sometimes smokes one.
I woke up a little more and realized it was hovering above me and went from one end of the room to the other, it was very thick and white. I sensed it was watching me, just observing. I closed my eyes and tried to ignore it.
I started sleeping downstairs on the couch after this, but was starting to get a little annoyed because I had just started working and needed a good night sleep. I came home one night from work and had a glass of wine that I set on top of the television along side a small box of light bulbs. The light bulbs flew of the television and landed in the middle of the floor. It creeped me out, but at this point I had enough! I refused to be tormented or frightened.
I told whatever it was that I belonged here and that my family has had this house for a very long time. I advised my name and that chances are I may be related to the ghost because only my family has lived there. I advised why I was there and that I would leave in a few months. I told it that I would not bother it if it did not bother me. I was a little shaky at this point, but I could not back down.
I walked upstairs with my wine in tow into a dark bathroom and hall (that is why I needed light bulbs) and went on with my business. That night or a night after I awoke to see shimmering smoke in the corner of my room hovering above my head. Again, it just appeared as if I were being watched in a curious way. It faded and so far (knock on wood)I have not been bothered again.
I did find out later that my great, great step grandfather had passed away upstairs and was a little controlling about his house. I don't know who is up there, but I hope I never have to see it again.
