Was this God?

I had a dream a few months ago and I’ve been puzzled over it ever since. I didn’t really understand it, but it was strange. It seems silly, almost, but I really do want to know what it means.

I was with one of my friends at a church and we were listening to the preacher, but we weren’t sitting in pews. I didn’t recognize the church from anywhere, and it was knew to me. I told my friend that I needed to go to the bathroom and ventured off to find it myself.
So I wandered around for a few moments, and eventually came to this beautiful dark wooden door with a brass knob on it. I was curious, so I opened it. The room inside of it was amazing. It seemed like a normal room, but once I stepped inside, it felt lighter immediately. There was one window, a thin glass window with a four panes divided by the wood. The walls were white, and the sun was shining brightly through the window. I wasn’t able to see what was out the window though, it was very bright. The floors were a bit lighter than what the door was, and they looked worn, but again, it was stunning. I heard babbling, almost talking and saw an older man coming towards me.

I don’t really remember what his face looked like, but he was wearing brown robes with something gold hanging around his neck. He was bald, except for some gray hair that was in a ring around his head. He told me that “he” would see in a few seconds, and was talking about how he had to take down this chandelier that was supposedly demonic. He led me into this other room, and I saw the chandelier that he was going to take down. There was glass hanging off of it, and one side went farther down than the other one.

There was also a dark staircase following down someplace, but I couldn’t see where. The man told me that “he” was ready to see me, and he led me to another room, which looked similar to the first. The first man left, and the door closed behind me. I saw a man (presuming this to be Jesus, he looked a lot like him) scrubbing the floor, on all fours. He had long dark brown hair hanging in his face, but I never saw his face. He was wearing white robes, and I looked down at his fingers. They looked like an old mans, but I knew this man was young. I felt like I’d known him all of my life, and I had no worries. He said, ” Hello Shelby,” and I also said hello. He told me that he didn’t mind me being the way I was, and that it would be okay. He stopped for a moment, telling me that I had to do something, and kept telling me that. I asked him what I had to do, and I could see him smiling, he told used my name and told me that I would find out soon enough. The man from earlier came in and told me that I needed to leave now, and then I woke up.

Any thoughts?

  1. Hi Shelby,

I have a few questions – are you from a Christian background? Or have you watched medieval types of movies over the years?

The symbolism in the dream – from Mary Summer Rain’s Guide to Dream Symbols (a book I have used for many years to interpret my infrequent dreams, but also the dreams of hundreds of other people):

Church “indicates type of spiritual connection and quality of same”. Nowhere to sit means nowhere to rest .. so do you either find church is not a good place to find peace/rest, or do you think its not?

The man in brown sounds like a monk, they wore robes and shaved a bald patch (tonsure) onto the top of their heads, and usually kept their hair short.

I’ve never heard of a demonic chandelier but .. since Lucifer is supposed to be the ‘bringer of Light’, it fits that he might be seen as a chandelier (a light source). In my dream book chandelier means “exemplifies specialized “light” of ideas or thoughts that are outwardly displayed in a focused or attention-getting manner”. Taking ‘down’ the chandelier .. could mean exactly that. Isn’t there a phrase ‘to take someone out’ which means to kill them or stop them? It could simply mean that the Light source needed stopping.

You had to wait to see the brown man’s boss .. fair enough. We all ‘wait’ to see God. LOL

The man scrubbing was doing what a servant does, again its a good version of Christian symbolism, seeing Jesus either as the servant of God/church, or the servant of man. White is a symbol of purity, and Jesus has been drawn that way over the millenia.

Did he tell you that you had something special to do in this lifetime? I know he said you would find out what it is very soon, which is lovely. Have you been asking God to do this for you? What do you think brought on the dream/vision?

Do I think you saw God .. you know, I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised. I have walked with Jesus myself, many years ago, in a quiet place that I am always drawn back to. I seek it on earth, the mountain leading to the river in the valley. No wonder I love living in the country. LOL

    • Quick Question, are God and Jesus the same person? Thats what the explaination sounds like.

      • God is not nor was he ever a “person” according to the Bible. Jesus was the person. (I am assuming “person” = human being here)

        • Oh Okay, but what’s the trinity about then?

          • Perhaps you misunderstood me. I was just saying that Jesus was a human being but God was not (according to the Bible)

As for the Trinity that idea came from the ancient Babylonians and was common in many so called pagan religions before Christianity. Perhaps that would be a good question to add to the site? I do not see a trinity in the Bible. I see a God with different facets and/or functions and abilities. Describing God as a trinity is an arbitrary human thing.

          • Caretaker is mistaken, Ted. Jesus Christ is God Incarnate, not just a “human”. The Bible is quite clear about this: Jesus, God the Father, and the Holy Spirit are all the same, yet independant. Does this sound confusing? It’s supposed to. The Trinity is not something we can really understand. We don’t even know everything on earth, so to understand Heavenly things is out of the question. The Trinity, simply, is three persons in One. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit as simply GOD our LORD. :)

“For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.” – 1 John 5:7
Luke writes that Jesus said to his followers that the Father is in Him, and vice versa.
John starts off the Gospel by saying that In the beginning, that the Word (Jesus Christ) was with God, but he was also GOD.

          • I understand that the trinity or the “three in one” is a common concept among many religions that predate Christianity.

          • Yet, you don’t seem to fully understand the Trinity, as you seem to have called Jesus a human. Theologically speaking, and I stress that term, this isn’t true.

          • Hi Ted,

In my opinion, God and Jesus are not the same person. Though God is inside everyone these days, I believe it didn’t happened until Jesus died on the Cross and then the (Holy) Spirit of God, the Christ, became part of every being God created. Jesus was a man. He was born a man, of two human parents (of the house of David through his father – which is in the Bible), and the Holy Spirit descended upon him (symbolised by a dove) when John baptised him in the river (also in the Bible). He became Jesus the Christ then, lived that way for a number of years, and then was crucified. We also have historical proof of both his life, and his crucifixion.

          • Hello Glory,

I think CT understands the Trinity quite well, having had other discussions with him on different ‘answer’ sites here on TGT.

I agree, theologically, Jesus was unusual. LOL It is only our ‘belief’ that says that Jesus was God, or the son of God, we have no actual proof. We do have proof, now, of his life, which is wonderful .. but .. the only ‘proof’ we have of his divinity comes from a book that has been Proved to be been changed by many hands since it was first created by Iraenous about 100 years after Jesus died. That’s a lot of time, and a lot of changes ..

And while I would love to believe that Jesus was ‘only’ the son of God, and not a man as well, and did true miracles, the more I read the bible, and dig into the history of its making, and research the ‘proofs’ that people expect me to believe .. without good scientific data backing it up .. (and then there are the Dead Sea Scrolls, and other works of people who wanted to give their slant to the Jesus story) .. the further I move away from belief and into scepticism. I have no doubt that the Christ energy worked through Jesus in this world, for all of us, but .. that’s based on Belief .. not any facts that I can find that aren’t in that book that fundamentalists base their beliefs on.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the Bible .. I just see it for what it is .. history in the writing, and we are still translating it, and editing it, and changing it even today .. I have a variety of different copies of the Bible on my Theological bookcases here .. and tons of people’s interpretations of what the (badly) translated passages mean.

It breaks my heart to think we cannot base the Love on God on something that hasn’t led to war, hatred and violence .. and all in the name of getting it right with God? Yes, we are still children in His Sight.

          • Hi Glory Of It All

You said: ..you don’t seem to fully understand the Trinity, as you seem to have called Jesus a human.

(Sorry, had to giggle) – Jesus breathed air. He ate and drank. He washed. He went to the toilet. He slept and he awoke. He felt pain. He laughed and he cried. He was of the flesh. Jesus was human.

Now, Christ (the Holy Spirit) on the other hand ….

          • Hi AJ,

Great list! :-) You forgot ‘he lost his temper’ .. love that one. Shows he was human. :-)

            Ama

          • Ama: Nice response. I’ll have to get back to you when I’m not bogged down with papers ;) . I’m more interested in the theological side and less about my or yours historical interpretation. Lines get muddied when they are confused. But much appreciated.

Ama: Jesus IS the Christ. The Holy Spirit is not the Christ. Once again, theologically, Jesus was more than human. Forgive the pun, but that’s the glory of it all, that God became fully man and fully human through Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit,, according to the Christian Bible, is the guidance that Christ Himself leaves behind.

I love hearing from ya’ll so sorry if I offend. I speak for the cannonical Christian perspective. :) .

          • Also, I recommend you guys to check up the Trinity on wikipedia! Interesting read. It sounds like you guys are referring to the theological doctrine of Unitarianism/Non-Trinitarianism. It’s part of mainline Christianity, albeit less prevalent.

            Take care!

          • Great, Glory, :-) we would love to have a chat. But please, come back under your real name, rather than a pseudonym .. I don’t know why Christians have to hide themselves away in plain sight on our site. You might notice that AJ and I are not hiding.

As for the Trinity, I don’t believe in it and have done plenty of research over the years. It is based on one quote in the Bible, not mentioned specifically as one being, and is, to me, one of the many creations of men from the Book. Since I believe that everything we learn from God is simple and clear, and has always been, in my experience, having any number of learned researchers turn around and say that we humans cannot truly ‘understand’ the Trinity .. just goes to prove its an invention. Why would God want to make itself so complicated that we cannot udnerstand it? Why would God create something that drives a wedge into people’s belief in veracity of the Bible?
Even Jesus said ‘in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit’ .. not the Trinity of One being, Father, Son and HS. If he’d said that I would have no problems with the concept of one being in three forms … I don’t actually have a problem with grasping the concepts now, actually .. just don’t think its real.

And Jesus ‘became’ the Christ .. and if he stayed that way .. why did he ask God ‘why have you abandoned me’ just before he died?

Actually, I’m fascinated by the theological side of things, but its our interpretations of it that make it valid or not. With so many translations of the Book, how can anyone be sure which translation is correct? We can’t be.

            Always interesting

  2. HI Shelby

Oh! This is SO like the dream I had years ago when I went to Heaven. How wonderful!

The grey haired man is, I believe, your protection guide. It was my protection guide who showed me the way in, in a very similar kind of way.

As for the messanger part, in my dream, Immanual was looking out the window and weeping for me. He too told me I had something to do – it was a choice, actually, but no matter which way I chose to go, he would still weep for me.

Basically, Shelby, you are at a crossroads – spiritually, that is. Listen to your heart and follow the path that will make you grow, spiritually. Don’t listen to others – for you never know whether its the devil, in diguise.

  3. jesus is son of god, holy spirit is among the trinity, whatever you ask in the name of christ, you will get it by FATHER.(GOD)

  4. My whole family is Christian, we often went to church years ago but no longer attend. The church was huge, and my friend and I were laying down on a large platform way in the back. The man speaking wasn’t a pastor, he seemed normal almost. There were pews up towards the front of the church. I also knew some of the people around me, but one of them was Catholic, so I wondered why we would be in the same church together? It was quite comical, because God addressed me like a friend, he simply said hello, and I did the same. There was definitly a huge difference in the feeling of the empty room and the one with God in it. It was re-assuring, a comforting sort of feeling.

    • Hi Shelby,

God didn’t create religion, man did. I LOVE the fact that you had people there who were from different groups of Christian religions .. and God was there too .. so, it must have been ok for the others to be there with those who went to your church .. otherwise why would He be in the building?

We have a multi-denominational Christian Spiritualist church here that the Christian churches ignore .. and why .. because they allow people from many faiths to be there with them, without trying to convert them. That’s God at work, as far as I’m concerned.

I believe in God but I am fast coming to not want to have anything with religion .. except to poke it gently with a stick (my thoughts) .. a bit lke poking an ants nest .. to see how the Christians react. It’s very sad, because most of the time they come out fighting.

  5. dear people i would like to point out the fact that it may have been a demon but i wish her luck

    • Hi PF,

If it had been a demon or two, I think we would have heard more about her problems by now, not the ‘reassuring, comforting’ feeling. Demons are not known for their niceness.

  6. Hi All

If you delve into Catholicism (and I am a baptized R.Catholic), google Ecumenical council meetings and read back to the very early days of Christianity, when the hierarchy of the R.Catholic church had the powers and used them to change how the beliefs of Christianity panned out. You will find, it was the hierarchy of the Catholic church who decided after years of debate amongst themselves, to enhance the status of Jesus Christ – calling him the only begotten son of God and, as such one person with God the Father and Holy Ghost in the Holy Trinity. This declaration would’ve also raised the status and power of the Church, and they have held this notion ever since.

The teachings of Christ were revolutionary and as such antagonised the Roman authorities, Christ and his desciples stirred up the people to a point where there was rioteous behaviour and they always made a disappearing act before the authorities turned up to quell the riots. It was innevitable that Christ would’ve been caught resulting in his death. Josephus who was a scribe/journalist during those times, described Jesus as a political trouble-maker.

    • You know Pat, I agree with you. The concept to “Love one another as I have loved you” and “turn the other cheek” and “not make war or disturb the peace, but honour the commandments and the teachings of the Jewish church” were really revolutionary .. not making for revolts, but asking people to examine their own consciences first before acting like idiots in a crowd. People blame Jesus for this? Let’s look at the riots all around the world at the moment, where the ‘authorities’ are the ones starting the fights in people’s peaceful gatherings? It happen in the past too.

I know its only in the eye of the beholder, but we can’t measure Jesus’ actions by just one man’s opinions, and that’s all we have .. Josephus is the only historical person outside the bible who ever wrote about Jesus. He was born just after Jesus died, so sadly he is only telling us what others told him too.

Let me quote what he says about Jesus Christ. I have the book here in my lap.

Chapter 18 Section 3: “Now, there was about this time Jesus, a wise man, if it be lawful to call him a man, for he was a doer of wonderful works – a teacher of such men as receive the truth with pleasure. He drew over to him both many of the Jews, and many of the Gentiles. He was (the) Christ; and when Pilate, at the suggestion of the principal men among us, had condemned him to the cross, those that loved him at the first did not forske him, for he appeared to them alive again the third day, as the divine prophets had foretold these and ten thousand other wonderful things concerning him; and the tribe of Christians, so named for him, are not extinct at this day.”

Where is the rabble rouser? What the various members of his group did in anger after he died .. had nothing to do with Jesus or his teachings.

I am not sure who you are paraphrasing, but its not Josephus.
