Paranormal Activity Movies Realistic?

Hi everyone, Just wondering how much of Paranormal Activity 1 and 2 can be deemed to actually be possible to happen?

I mean realistically which parts of the movies where the demon appears and causes havoc actually can happen?

Just curious.

Cheers

  1. Hi Mato-Bateman

I got half way through the first one, but couldn’t finish watching it due to laughing too much.

It starts off feasible enough but, at the point the bloke decided to get out the ouija board (against his partners express wishes) I knew it was going to be a sensationised pile of pooh.

And as for that psychic fella??? (shakes head whilst giggling into coffee).

    • I agree with AJ’s comments.

The stories are supposed to be based on facts, but after 29+ years of helping other people clear their houses of ghosts, and my whole lifetime experiencing ghosts and demons etc, its a load of crap created to scare people. Mostly it just made me sick to my stomach, that people would waste that much money on making something so stupid.

Are there any movies that you can depict as being more realistic?
I seriously have no idea why they wouldn’t call the demonologist straight away right? LIke you would wait a few days.

    • Hi MB

OK – first off, most films are done in ‘hollywood-stylee” so naturally to an extent they are sensationalised.

But, here are a few which I still find genuingly disturbing (albeit none are 100% acurate due the reasons above):

      The Exorcist
Ignoring the pea-soup and head spinning and ‘dramatics’, this film does address the ‘worst case synario’s’ of demonic possession. Speaking in tongues is possible, both in church and in a possession case – albeit what is said is profoundly different. Marks and lacerations appearing/disappearing without any logical reason does happen; levitation is possible; change of appearance (facial expression, for example); moving objects or throwing people around through ‘thought’ (poltergeist); objects being regurgitated (metal objects like nails, for example) and a psychosematic avertion to religious symbols or Holy Water have also been documented in possession cases. Although this film (and book) is as old as the hills and, despite the hype when it first came out, it is so losely based on a true story it should be treated as fiction and not factual, Blatty (author) had obviously done an awful lot of research.

      The Shining
This classic film delves much more into the psychological side of hauntings, rather than The Exorcists physical side. The focus with this film is how John Torus was ‘drawn’ to a place then started halucinating (having visions) which gradually turned him mad, to the point he tried to kill his family. Meanwhile, Johns son, gifted phychic child of 5(?), was also picking up on all the disturbances within the hotel, although he wasn’t what the building wanted. It transpired that John worked there in a past like (1920′s(?)) and the hotel was gradually drawing all those souls back and ‘trapping’ them there. A brilliant film.

      Jacob’s Ladder
This film isn’t so much about ghosts, rather the ‘fight’ that ensues within a person, at the point they are about to die. In essence, Jacob is a solder who is mortally wounded. He keeps dying but the doctors keep reviving him again. The film expores what happens to his spirit during this transitional period. It is a deeply disturbing film and one you really do need to consentrate on 100% or it will lose you completely. That said, the scenes where the angels are sitting on the hospital beds trying to contact the living through short-wave radios was brilliant!!

      Ghost
Ok – yes, cheesy in parts but I would say this is about 90% accurate … provided you don’t mind the lovey-dovey mussy bits – haha!

      The Lovely Bones
Now – the book was never written with religion in mind, yet it has been highly critised by many religious organisations for its interpretation of heaven. It came out as a film last year, I think. The story is about a young girl who was brutally raped and murdered but, before she can go to healing, she feels the need to get ‘revenge’ on her abductor/executor. This is actually a very stylish, yet quite gentle film, given the subject matter – concentrating more on the girls journey after death and how, gratually, she accepts what has happened, forgives rather than takes revenge and moves on . I think Ama would love this film.

If I think of any more, I’ll add them later.

        • YES!!! The lovely bones!! I myself, recommend the book! The book, obviously has more detail and you definitely get a better feel for the story through the book, but if you don’t have time, the movie is good, too! I love the perspective from which it is written!!

          • A couple of other films have just sprung to mind, for yooooz. Both nice, tear-jurker ones …

  3. Hi Mato,

No, people do wait days, weeks, and months, before trying to explain to people that they are not actually insane, and weird and nasty things ‘are’ really happening to them.

And no, I don’t watch these sorts of movies usually, so I can’t recommend anything.

A usual ghostly visit is something simple, quiet and scares people .. or doesn’t. Everyone reacts differently.

Demons hound people, but usually leave no marks, except in their minds. They work subtly for the most part. They want to scare the to death, or murder, or worse, but not in ways that can be proved to other people.

    • Why do you want to know?

      • Oh I am just curious as to what can happen and not like in movies. I did read that the guy Oriel Poi who made the original Paranormal Activity, did exstensive research on the matter but yeah he would have made it more hollywood cause haha you don’t want nothing happening in a movie. But it did really scare me and ‘m realy afraid to watch Paranormal 3 cause I don’t want it plaguing my mind while I sleep.

When I watched Exorcism of Emily Rose, which blurs the line between what the girl suffered was demonic or she had a mental illness. I was so deeply disturbed by the movie that I couldn’t sleep properly for days. I kept waking up at 3am.

Ah movies, you watch them not knowing how deeply disturbed you might get. Didn’t help I was on a date that night :)

  4. plausible? yes. demons are powerful
probable? no. not in the slightest bit.
did you piss the devil off enough he feels the need to rip you out of your bed
drag you to your addict and have your sister snatch your baby?
no? okay your probaly safe then ;p

  5. i like those movies it was so scary but i don”t think ghost are real

  6. I couldn’t stand watching it all due to getting motion sickness from all the wobbling the camera did.

From what I could gather only one thing really seemed feasible to me and that’s simply because I could relate to the girl saying it wasn’t the homes she lived in that were haunted, but it was her that was in fact haunted. That’s me in a nutshell.

The rest seemed to be poorly done theatrics.

Some loved the movie and maybe it would have been a bit more brilliant if I wasn’t wanting to hurl from the motion sickness!
