Do All People have Personal Demons?

Someone told me that everyone has personal demons? Is that true or what because I tried looking it up but nothing comes up.

  1. Hi Hector,

It depends on the beliefs of whatever culture someone comes from.

The majority of people are hounded, not helped, by demons. Some believe they are helped, but .. I don’t believe the helpers are ‘demons’. Demons are evil beings who have no love for humanity at all, in my experience.

  2. “Personal demons” usually refers to a person’s private difficulties. Alcohol or drug abuse are frequently referred to as personal demons. Painful memories are also considered personal demons. I’ve never heard the term used literally, “personal demons” is a metaphor, rather than an actual paranormal event.

  3. Hi Hector

Define ‘demon’. As SnowWolf said, it could be behavioural problems etc.

If you’re talking fallen angels, then no. We aren’t automatically given a devil on one shoulder, whispering in our ear to lead us astray. We’re all pretty good at doing that ourselves, without spiritual intervention.

If you’re talking Hindu, then ‘demon’ does not have the same connotation as the Christian/Jew/Islam version of the fallen angel.

Sorry I couldn’t be of more help.

  4. Try reading “The Screwtape Letters” by C.S. Lewis. This is fiction – the hero of the story is pursued by his personal demon. The book consists of letters from the demon to Satan himself, on how his progress is going about winning the man’s soul. Thought-provoking book.

    • Luckily that book was invented. The gentleman also wrote the Narnia series, which my kids grew up playing. :-)

  5. Personally I believe that we create our own demons in some form or another. I prefer to call my demons my “vices” hey it could always be worse! I’d rather have a crutch than a malevolent black mass with teeth following me around.
