When the Lights Go Out

Posted on September 22, 2011

I live in an old 19th century mill building in Massachusetts. My family and I have lived here for about 4 years now and some strange things that can not be explained keep happening.

We have things nock over in the kitchen, random things moved around in cabinets, and some noises that no one can seem to explain. Some people are probably thinking well, you live in a building with other people so no wonder there is noises. Yes, we understand that but these are like groaning noises and whispers.

Down stairs used to be my old bedroom until I moved out of it and my brother moved in. He does not believe in anything that has to do with the ‘paranormal’ so he has not told us any strange things has happened to him. But, I lived in that room longer than him so I know of the weird noises like boxes being moved or the eerie feeling of someone watching you. But, still that is not what worries me.

What worries me is my bedroom now.

My bedroom is upstairs away from everyone else. At night I go upstairs with my dog (who I like to have sleep near me so I am not up there totally alone.) Everything is fine until the lights go out. When the lights go out I hear strange whispers and I feel like I am being watched.

That happens every night. But, what is scaring me has happened lately (in the last 2-3 weeks.) One morning at 5 or so in the morning I was woken up to something tapping me. In which I thought was my step-mother waking me up to go up to Maine with her. The only problem was I turned over and no one was there. I walked down stairs and she was still asleep.

A couple of nights later I had one of my close friends sleep over who has said to me in the past “Uh, Sammie I think there is a guy in your house who lives in the upstairs room.” I didn’t think much of it until she told me one morning that she saw a man standing in the doorway and again at the end of my bed. She also told me of foot steps walking up my stairs (which I have heard many times before.)

After that I started to wonder if there indeed was a man that lives in my room.

Yesterday I cleaned my room and moved a lot of my stuff around. So, of course I had cleaner and stuff like that up there. The bottom sheet of my bed smelled like my dog had an accident on it so I took it off and threw it in the wash. After I was done cleaning and everything I brought it all down stairs and made sure everything in my room was put back and neat. Then, I ran downstairs and grabbed my sheet and put it on my bed and put my top sheet and quilt back on too.

A couple of hours later I came back up and was putting pictures on my wall. Nothing wrong. So, I ran back down stairs and said good night to my father and step-mother and ran back upstairs. I went to get under my covers and there was a spot that was soaking wet. I was starting to get mad thinking it was my dog who peed but when I smelled it, it smelled like cleaner. I ripped everything off my bed and brought it down for my parents to smell and see what they thought about it. They couldn’t figure out why it smelled like that. And the funny thing is the cleaner I used smelled nothing like the sheets. It wasn’t dog pee either because it had a chemical smell to it and I know what my dog’s pee smells like.

I wouldn’t be so creeped out if my bed was wet 10 minutes before when I was up there hanging pictures, if the cleaner was in my room, or if the bed was wet too.

I don’t know if I am crazy or over reacting but I am scared. I am scared because it has touched me and I have seen it and so has my friend. I don’t think it wants to hurt me but, I really don’t know. If anyone wants to tell me I am crazy or suggest anything to try to help me or explain any of this to me please, please, please, do.
