Victory of Good over Evil Indian Witchcraft

Posted on January 9, 2011

This is an encounter of my mother when I was very young, about 3 years old. At that time I had a problem that I was underweight and weak. My mom tried every possible medication available to get rid of my weakness, but when nothing else worked, my mom called a ‘baiga’ (a Hindi term for a person who practices the opposite of Indian witchcraft, they capture spirits and use them for good deeds).

He arrived at our house, he set up the scene with all the ingredients required for worshiping and proper ‘pooja’ (Hindu method of worshiping a God). First of all he held a ‘soupa’ (a bamboo tray used for separating grains from hay and other impurities) and took some rice grains in it and started shaking them, producing a melodious music, then he started chanting some ‘mantras’ (spells) together it made a very good music and it was kind of enjoyable to hear it.

Then, he placed a lemon on the floor and balanced a stick in the middle of it, like balancing a niddle. The idea was, if someone had cast a spell over me, that I would be weak then the stick would point towards the direction of the culprit.

Then, he told my mom that he was going to call a spirit upon her to know more about the culprit, he took the notification that he was doing this due her permit and if the police finds it out then she would only be blamed. This was because no one is sure that the spirit will leave the body of my mom or not.

Hearing this my mom got truly frightened/scared. He opened all the windows and doors of the house to let way for the spirit to enter.

My mom suddenly had this strong feeling that, why should she let some other person who cannot be completely trusted take upon her body, mind and soul. The baiga lit up a ‘diya’ (can be used in place of a candle) and he stared chanting, as his words got more loud and powerful the flame of the diya would become more bigger. The spirit was here.

Now, my mom’s willpower came into action. She had this small photo of Goddess Durga which she used to worship. She concentrated over the image of the deity, the picture was framed on her mind. The baiga was calling the spirit upon her body, he made her hair open loose and asked her to close her eyes, after which he asked, “Who are you?, What image can you see after closing you eyes?”, my mom stared swinging to and fro and replied, “I can see Durga Maa”. Goddess Durga is very powerful, she is very sacred and holy. After hearing this reply the baiga was amazed and scared at the same time, his spirit could not take control over my mom. He took all his stuff and his spirit with him leaving me and mom unharmed and untouched.

This is a very big thing for my mom and for me too. Till this date she tells me this incident which still gives me chills.

Well, this is why they say that we should keep holy pictures, images and signs of our Gods in our homes so that it may help us in believing in ourselves and not get in someone else’s influence we need some object to concentrate upon and keep faith upon because God is nowhere but within us, it supports our faith. Also, we should not keep pictures of monsters or scary faces of animals or skulls in front of our eyes as these are considered as bad omens and may bring evil energies.

Well this is how strong the willpower and the belief upon a deity of a typical Indian women can get.

So, believe in yourself and keep your emotions strong.

God bless.
