They Thought I Was Crazy

Posted on January 8, 2011

I am an adult female, highly educated and have never had reason to believe in ghosts, until recently.

About a year ago, my son made a “shrine” to my father for a Spanish class project. When he brought it home, we placed it in the bar area of our house, since my late Father liked a cocktail or two. We began having strange events happening in our house, such as light bulbs constantly going out, lamps flickering often, musical instruments turning themselves on, etc. As these things happened, I never thought anything about it, just figured, “wow, we are going through light bulbs like crazy!”

One day, I was standing near the bar area in front of my “junk” drawer. In an instant, my son, housekeeper and I, heard a loud crash. It was so loud, I thought my china cabinet had a shelf break. We ran into the dining room – nothing was out of place. I walked around looking for broken glass everywhere, happened to open the cabinet in front of where I had been standing, and a glass from the bar cabinet had shattered into pieces, the cabinet hadn’t been open in months, if not longer. It wasn’t sitting under another glass, we don’t have earthquakes in Texas; it was unexplainable.

A while later, my sister came over and I showed her where the glass had broken. She pointed out the picture of my Dad and his “tribute” sitting directly under the shelf where the glass had broken.

A few days later, my siblings, our families and I were at our beach house in Galveston. We were eating corn on the cob, laughing about how my Father would have a few too many cocktails and let butter drip off his chin when he ate corn. At that moment, a margarita pitcher fell out of an armoire on the other side of the house and shattered into pieces.

Later that night, I went downstairs, turned on a light and said, “Daddy, are you here?” Immediately, one of the light bulbs in the track flickered, then stopped. I asked my sister in law to come downstairs and watch – I asked the same question and received the same response. We actually grabbed a fishing pole to touch the bulb to make sure it wasn’t loose.

I realize this is wordy, and there’s so many more activities that I started making a list. Besides the unexplainable but I’m sure experiences others have had like waking up because something was tickling my legs while I slept, doors opening, unusual spots of light, these are a few examples of the more unusual events I’ve seen. If anyone is interested, I’d be glad to share more! I am not a drinker, smoker, drug-doer… anything that would cause me to hallucinate or fabricate information. It “is what it is” and I can’t explain it!

i think maybe your father heard you!

There was a point in time when so many things were happening in my home, that I too thought I was going crazy. I did research online and could find nothing I was doing or had done in the past (nor did I have any symptoms of any mental illness) that could have caused me to hallucinate the things that I saw and experienced. I finally had to come to the conclusion that ‘it is what it is,’ as well. I did however find out that people going through changes(I.E. Puberty, or in my case Menopause) can be more sensitive to the supernatural. I am not sure where you are in life, or what stage your children are at…that may have some bearing as to why these things are happening. BUT I don’t think that you really need to worry, I truly think that it’s just your dad letting you know that he is still around.

What an interesting comment; about times in your life and the possibility of being more sensitive to unexplainable experiences. I probably am in the beginning stages of menopause, I’m in my 40′s. When my Father died, I was 19 and in college. I never skipped school, but it was a Thursday and for some reason, I knew I needed to go home. I left on a Thursday afternoon and found out my Father had died in an accident that day. I wasn’t going through puberty at that time, but, it was a time where I was experiencing alot of change. On the other hand, all the stuff that’s happened recently was during the time my husband was going through chemotherapy…maybe my dad was letting me know he was there for me. I still have unexplainable activity on a regular basis…even recorded a weird light on my cell phone on my Father’s birthday.

I think the shrine that your son made might have made your dad’s spirit come back briefly. I noticed when I hung up a picture of my deceased brother the kids were afraid of the picture. They said it looked haunting or scary. some minor paranormal events happened after that.

  4. Nana says:

In all obviousness, the haunting seems to have links (or be centered entirely) around your late father, and, by extension, the ‘shrine’ that your son made to him. This could be because of a number of reasons. Spirits often ‘link’ themselves to objects or places (physical creations in general) and haunt generally around that area, which could be what the spirit of your father has taken to. Things especially that have much energy focused towards a supernatural entity are especially prone to this. As the ‘shrine’ is an object made entirely for the sole purpose as to remember your father, the energy – in most cases, thinking much about that certain entity or force – has ‘summoned’ the spirit of your father into your house.

Now, assuming that my theory is correct, your father’s reasons for haunting your house may vary. The easiest thing to assume is that there is unfinished business that he left, or a problem that he wishes to attend to. If there is anything that you can think of that may have upset your father had he been alive (such as inheritance, family choices, disagreements, etc), then solving the problem in accordance to how he would have wished may let your father rest in peace. However, I don’t advise trying to ‘contact’ your father through the ouija board or anything of the sort, as it could attract less friendly spirits and entities.

Finally, the fact that you’re going through very many light bulbs is proof of a manifestation. Ghosts require much energy to be able to manifest, so as a result power could be drained from the lights and other electronics. Take this as a sign to see when your father’s spirit could be trying to appear.

Sorry for the length of this comment, but I wish you the best and hope that you can solve this problem peacefully.

Interesting! Well everything points to it being your Father. But it sounds like more of a Poltergist Activity to me. Keep us up to date on anything new. Thanks for sharing your story. God Bless!

  6. Charmaine says:

it must be your father… put a recorder on and ask questions, maybe you will get answers? If this starts getting out of hand, get your house cleansed by a priest. I’m interested in your other stories, please share them :) Keep well

  7. Brian Blackburn says:

Great story! I believe he was certainly rying to contact you! Please share more!

  9. FattyAddie says:

My father passed away a little over 2 years ago, but I haven’t really had anything like this happen. The only time I think he may have tried to contact me was in a dream. I was sitting at a picnic table in his favorite park, and I looked across a field and he was standing there. He smiled and waved, then turned around a left. That was a few months after he passed. I have came to realize that he has probably passed over completely, and doesn’t have any unfinished business or anything like that, which gives me comfort, but I still wish that he would let me know that he is still with me even if it would scare the living holy hanna out of me. :)

    • trolldoll says:

he did! my dad did that too but later on i had another with him and my mom and got to hug and talk to both of them. the last dream i had, they were walking hand in hand in a beautiful park. they give us signs, sometimes they go unnoticed. if you see or smell or think of something for no reason that would remind you of the happy times with them, then they are there.

      • FattyAddie says:

Thank you for that. Thinking about it now and looking back, there are times when I will smell something that remindes me of him. Also (in fact this just happened) when I have the radio on and I start thinking about him or talking about him a specific song comes on. I guess it does happen more often than I think, I should just open my eyes to it more that what I have been.
