I was on a trip to Egypt with my mum, dad, sis and uncle. We were staying in a lovely hotel which had a difficult name so i cant remember. There were lots of Egyptian pictures on the walls of our room.
There was a picture of Horus in my bedroom which i had to share with my sister Anne. My parents slept in the next room and my uncle slept on the couch. It was more of an apartment but it didn’t have a kitchen. The picture of Horus freaked me out a lot and i was quite ashamed since i knew it was only a picture and my sis didn’t seem to be bothered of it at all.
One night my uncle had gone out to the bar and mum and dad were talking to the people down in the lobby. i was in my room alone. Anne was playing with the girl next door. I looked at freaky Horus. I looked and looked and i swear his eyes winked at me. I got up, my heart thudding. I thought it was my eyes playing tricks on me so i cuddled up with browny, my sleeping bear.
I looked hard at Horus and spoke to him with my thoughts. ‘Your just a freaky painting and stop winking at me, it is rude!’ and i thought i heard a birdish voice squawk to me ‘I can wink at you if i like you little brat!’ I felt scared then i thought back ‘Shut up. You are a god, you know better then to wink at kids like that! ‘Then i felt a negative presence arouse. I pressed my lips into browny’s cuddly fur and wrapped myself in my blanket. I heard a few squawks and everything turned black.
The next morning i got up with a splitting headache. I remembered of last night and thought never to talk to gods like that again. I looked at the wall and guess what? The painting was gone! i screamed and fell on my knees and mum came rushing to me. ‘Hun is everything ok? look you’ve got a bruise in your eye and here on your elbow ‘mum said examining me. I told her of the missing painting but she laughed and told me to look in my bed and when i did i saw the painting there! I thought it smiled cheekily and flung it across the room. ‘Hun! it’s a good thing it isn’t a framed painting. Pick it up at once or else!’ mum said angrily.
The whole day i was sick so we decided to stay in our room. Anne sat next to me and said ‘I was scared Fiona. You were holding that painting when i came into the room and you were muttering something in Egyptian. It was… freaky so i slept on the living room floor. I decided to swap rooms with mum and dad and they agreed. They too heard squawking noises of a bird so we left the hotel and went to another one.
