It all started when my Mother, Father, Sister and I moved into an abandoned cottage in Texas 3 years ago.
My Sister and I started school a week after moving into our new Bramble Cottage home. We made new friends straight away as My sister and I are Twins.
About 2 days later we had a slumber party and invited our new Mates, but no one turned up. We rang our friends up one by one and they all came up with the same excuse – Our house was haunted!
We were gob smacked, we were so confused, what was happening? We were never told this!
They said that there was a murder in our house 70 years ago. We asked our Mother and Father if they knew about this – They said our friends were lying and that they had never heard of such a thing.
My sister and I were still a little freaked out by the idea of a murder in our house 70 years ago. That night I was having a nice relaxing bath when I heard my Sister scream. I got out of the bath as fast as I could, grabbed my towel and headed for my sisters room. She was sitting on her bed talking to herself. I asked who she was talking to and if she had screamed but she did not answer me.
Three weeks later we moved out of our house as my sister kept on talking to someone who was not there. We moved to the city bringing my sister with me, once we left our house for our new one in the city.
A day later I asked her once again who she was talking to – She denied everything from that night I found her sitting on my bed. She could not even remember the last three weeks.
From this day we still do not know who she was talking to or who screamed. It was the most psychological experience of my life!

The first time I saw the Hatman was on ghost whisperer a few years ago.
I have been studying the paranormal for the past 40+ years and I have never come across a reference to it anywhere or at any time. Perhaps I’ve just been lucky. And now we have the internet, which I have been hunting this morning. There used to be a site ‘thehatmanproject’ but its giving me a 500 error message and seems to have vanished. Hmm.. from other sites it seems he is associated with shadow people, but knowing a little about them now, I don’t think he is.
From what I have read he creates fear in people. Shadow people might do that sometimes, but mostly I think people feel it because they are unusual. I know of any number of people who have seen them and not felt fear at all, mostly the same curiosity that the shadow people seem to be displaying about humanity.
And then we have demons. Which is a whole nastier subject .. and yes, they do appear, at times in hats and cloaks. But they do not, and cannot, collect souls. That is a Christian myth, and other religions. Our souls belong to God (whichever form of God you believe in). Nothing stops us reaching heaven except our own choices. As I said in another answer somewhere .. nothing can take our free will from us, we can only give it away.
I would be interested to know where you got the information from please. Any weblinks etc. I want to learn more abut this subject as quickly as possible.

If you would like to hear my story re: this topic… I can sure tell it to you! I do not know what these things are but seem to show up between the ages of 12-15 years of age in mostly boys I find? What happened to me was brushed off as a bad dream. I know I was wide awake and can give great detail to every part of the experience!! I never have been interested in this topic and still am not but I think going into this new year of 2012 people should know more about this thing! One difference in my experience is that the hat the being was wearing wasn’t a wide brimmed hat but a early ’70′s ” gentelmans” hat ( you know.. The kind with the tiny small feather tucked up in the band)?? It did make very audible sounds and in my opinion was there to harm me!! I felt its presence long before I saw it and it’s fingers made audible noises as it tapped on my doorway to my room. As I ran through it, the being was ice cold. ( before I got the nerve to leave from under my sheets, this thing tried to get on my waterbed and my bed was thrashing around… The waterbed mattress was thrashing that is!! My Family is 100% normal. We don’t go to church but are god loving, pretty normal folks… My Great Grandma, Grandma, Mother and I are all a but psychic for lack of a better word? Nobody has ever wanted to chase any part of this type of thing! Our house that I grew up in had never had any odd stuff go on inside… Ever!! So this was the only time anything ever happened to. Any of us there! I have had other stuff happen to me later in life re: UFO type stuff but nothing more. I am not the kind to chase this kind of stuff out or want it to happen to me for attention or any other reason!! Just so you know! If you want to hear my story… This thing that came to me was vil in nature! At age 44.. This is still very much somethingi know little of but will tell you my story!

I would love to know your story, and also why you say it happens most to teenage boys? Also, I would love to know your first name. I like to be able to reply to a ‘person’ of some kind, otherwise its like talking to a ghost.

I remember a family friend’s son seeing this figure. A man in a black cloak and hat. Except this used to scare the boy. The mother has said that she’d seen it too when she was a child. I never read up on it, but I have heard of it.
I seen it when i was 12 years in Puerto Rico at my house thrue the window and scare me i run to my mother and she check and didint see him he was very tall wirh a hat an a coat and it was like a shadow
The hat man is a stronger shadow person. while shadow people generally do not react to people, and often flee from our sight, the hat man is aggresive. He has bad intentions whatever they may be and he feeds off our negative emotions. A friend who lives many miles away dreampt of him the same night i did. two days later he was arrested. i think he can be a bad omen, just depends.
I have seen the hatman and so has my daughter I even have hi in a photo that was taken of me don’t know what he wants but it can’t be good :0/

Two years ago I had my one and only encounter. I put the car seat back to take a nap late one night, closed my eyes, got a weird feeling, then opened my eyes and there he was, leaning over the drivers side window looking right at me. He was like a shadow but solid and blacker than black. He was very skinny, trench coat or cape of some kind, wearing a fedora style hat. He seemed to have jagged, pointy distortions emanating from his “body”…almost like heat distortions on a hot highway in the middle of summer. I just saw him for like 1 or 2 seconds before he noticed that I saw him. He became very skinny and shrank away. This is all bad enough but the WORST part about the experience was the vibe he put off. It was the most negative, horrible feeling. The only way I can describe it is like a really negative feeling of dread. This experience bothered me for weeks. I don’t drink, don’t do drugs, don’t have any mental illness. Why me? Am i a bad person? What have I done to attract such a negative visit?

It happened two years ago, and never since .. I think he was just curious about you, not out to harm you.
And he isn’t attracted to just bad people, he likes to scare everyone. So no, you are not a bad person, and more than likely didn’t attract him .. he was probably just ‘passing your car’.

I saw him december 9 2009 and have continued to research. He was outside about 100 feet from my home in the day light. I will never forget.
Long story short, I met hatman in April of 2005. I was sleeping in a cabin in ocala national forest at the time when I awoke and he was hoovering over me…and I was completely frozen and unable to scream or move. I remember every last detail. I was 23. I never heard of him before I named him myself, HATMAN. In 2008 I happened to google “ghosts with black hats” and someway stumbled into a few things online that mentioned “Hatman” just like I named my ghost. ALL these people had similar experiences to me. It was just so weird because I thought it was my own original experience. I also found a few articles that attribute hatman to a condition called “sleep paralysis” – which I also found interesting because I have had this condition off and on since i was a small child (without the hatman experience); and always assumed it to be genetic from my father whom also experiences sleep paralysis. Deep down inside I always beleived it was bigger than just a sleep disorder (but I’m such a scientific person I will never discount the idea). Either way, ghost, or neurological, I will never forget that night for as long as i live.
