The Floating Old Man

Posted on April 15, 2010

It was Easter, about 11pm-ish. I had my friend George staying for the night at my house. To be perfectly honest, I have always had a feeling there was something abnormal in my house. I have often felt uneasy and had the feeling of not being alone especially when on the landing area, also in my bathroom, there has been many cases of flickering lights, even after my mothers brother who owns an electrical company has fixed them twice.

Anyway, me and George were sitting on my bed, about to watch a few psychological horror films. We had the light out, the lava lamp was on, giving the room a faint red glow. As usual, there was about 5 coats hung on the back of my door on a hook. I’m surprised it wasn’t broke considering the weight and thickness of the winter coats. George had pointed out how the coats and dressing-gown on the door had took a slight shape of a figure, due to lack of light. Although we tried to get back to watch the film and ignore it, we kept noticing in the corner of our eye(s). Bothered by it, George stood up to take one of the front coats off. As he stood up he told me of a chilling sensation that seemed to be coming from inside him.

At the door, although I personally did not experience anything, the hook fell off, dropping all the coats in front of the door. George later described the image of an old man, pale white hanging from the door, which seemed impossible since the hook had just fallen. His mouth was wide open and fingers were a moldy yellow. George only experienced this for a few seconds as when he blinked an rubbed his eyes, the apparition disappeared.

After he told me I asked my parents about who the predecessors of this house were. She told me an old couple had lived here. Tragically the husband of the two had died from lung cancer as he smoked heavily (explaining the yellow fingers).

To be perfectly honest I personally have no idea if the predecessors death had to do with what George saw, but I could tell that the fear on Georges face was real when he saw it.
