This is a story I wasn’t sure I wanted to tell. I was afraid that if I told it, it might make it more real. God knows I didn’t want it to be real.
I was over at my Erikas (my cousin) house for the weekend. She was telling me of how her and a few of her friends decided to make their own Ouija board (now personally I didn’t believe in the power of the game, and maybe still don’t) Anyway, she told me how nothing really happened, but the thrill of the game was fun. I had been taught to never play with witchcraft and the Ouija board, despite what I believed myself.
She continued with her story, telling me that Kayti (my other cousin and erikas sister) had been having strange nightmares lately that consisted of a man, a very tall man. She couldn’t see his facial features, for that he was covered in a cloak of darkness, but that he was least seven feet tall. She would awake sweating and scared of the night. Kayti was then starting to see the man outside of her dreams, just standing in her doorway to her bedroom.
When Erika was finished telling the ridiculous story, I just shook my head and frowned. She was screwing with me I knew it. Her and Kayti would tell stories like this to freak me out when we were younger (we were all the same age approximately).
But later that night, an event took place that I will never forget.
We were all (me, Erika and Kayti) taking comfort in the living room, where we all slept when I spent the night. When it was time to turn out the lights and sleep, it wasn’t until 2 am that I started to toss and turn in my sleep, feeling a bit unease.
I turned over and sure enough, standing in the doorway that was farthest from me was a shadow, darker than the dark in the room.
When Kayti said it was seven feet tall, she wasn’t kidding. It just stood there. I took all of my common sense and I turned back over and pretended it wasn’t there.
The next morning I awoke to the sound of voices. Kayti and Erika were talking about the shadow! I jumped off the couch and proceeded to tell the tale of what happened. They instantly believed me, cause they all saw it too last night.
I don’t know what to believe now, except that what I saw was true.
